Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I did not expect much from this property and therefore was not too disappointed. It is an old (1908?) home that was converted into small apartments. I stayed in room #6 Pros: Perfect location for what I was in Vancouver to do. Very close to the subway station (Sky Train) Beautiful, quiet tree lined street Bed was comfortable for me (firm) Cotton linens seemed clean, or at least they smelt nice The few staff I saw were friendly Louis is a nice guy, he is a part time Uber driver, which came in handy for me since I do not have the Uber app There is a small fridge, coffee maker and microwave in the room, the only thing I used was the fridge so I don't know if the other two appliances work or not but the fridge kept my beer cold, that was all that mattered to me. WiFi was okay once I figured out what network was the best one. Two bars max Cons: There were a lot of bad smells throughout the property. I get that it is an old house, but I suspect the stink comes mostly from the amount of garbage/old furniture and other such discarded items at the back yard. There were two common kitchens, one was not fit to store items in the fridge, never mind prepare food in there. The house phone in the main building (#345) did not work. I was told to "try later" but it was inoperable throughout my three night stay. Not everyone has a cell phone. Well maybe you all do but I do not so it sucked I could not make a simple voice phone call. There was a drink machine that is also broken, looks like it has been out of service for months. In my room, the bathroom mirror was placed so high that I could only see from my eyebrows up (yah I'm only 157cm but really!) There was nowhere to hang a bath towel except behind the toilet, which is as far away from the shower as one can get. I did not use the shower but thought about if I did where do I put the towel? A box of tissues in the room would have been a nice touch for those of us who don't like using toilet paper on our faces. There was no screen on the single pane slider window. I wasn't worried about security as room #6 is on the second floor with steep gables all in a very sad state of disrepair. But, insects, you know! Last thing I can think of that was bad was that the walls were all very grubby. I am certainly no princess, but still, I wanted to grab some Spray Nine and wash them all down and then paint. Eeeew. With a lot of work and clean up this place could be a real gem, but definitely not worth $245 CAD per night. There are a few other BnBs on this avenue that look like they are far better cared for. Thank you

Great location. Bed linens were not changed prior to my stay: used ear plug, long black hair and partial wrapper (condom?) found in bed linens or on floor next to the bed. Bathroom and towels were clean. Bed was saggy but pillows were comfortable. Room temperature good. The mini shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom must have been used and refilled based on the tampered looking screw tops. Stayed and paid for 5 nights before seeing the room but no service at all from housekeeping. The shared bathroom down the hall second floor was really smelling of urine on more than one occasion. I would not stay again.

Two stars too many. Smelly, basic, run down, grubby and dirty. Could be charming. Cups & kettle, no spoon. Two double beds and room for little else. The water was hot. Peeling paint. Tissue paper stuffed in air con unit to stop draught

Fantastic location, friendly helpful staff - we landed in Vancouver early and there was no problems leaving our bags with them until check in. Basic but clean and just what we needed. Would stay there again!

Only good thing was location. Dirty building, uncomfortable bed and we found a mouse in the bathroom on the second night. The amenities they list are not there. They "clean" once a week if you can call it that because it was disgusting. I would never come back here, I could barely sleep. Five days and no clean towels, a filthy kitchen, the doors were left open to the building for the cat, they say no smoking but the rude owners smoke, I could go on forever. Looks pretty on the outside but it is not pretty on the inside. Baggage storage is leaving your bags unattended in the main lobby room which is often empty because there are no staff. Old stained furniture that I didn't want to use. Wasn't my idea to come here and I'll never be back.

The staff are very inefficient. Do not pick up the phone and it is dysfunctional, And there were bedbugs everywhere - not worth the price one bit I must say And the bathrooms are filthy and miserable and they have a no refund policy

I had left my booking late, so I chose the Manor over much more expensive downtown accomodation (there were 3 of us travelling). The room was smaller than we expected, but we made it work for us, as it was only a base for sightseeing. The room was in an old house (as shown in the photo) so we didn't expect modern amenities. It does need some work, but overall was acceptable. It's main advantages were the proximity to: Cambie Street and transport (which seems to run right through Vancouver); shops (supermarkets and much more); and a selection of restaurants. Additionally we found the managers to be friendly and helpful.

Dirty, noisy, not at all what the photos show. Cat piss smell is masked by eye watering room freshener you can smell several houses away when approaching my foot. I would call this a poor hostel in bad repair, certainly not worth the price they charge.

This is a great location and close to the hospital. We chose it for that reason, expecting it to be old. Since it’s a converted old house, the walls weren’t very soundproof. That was ok as no one was noisy. Water in the shower was barely warm. Fortunately we brought our own shampoo as none is supplied. It’s also a lovely old neighbourhood and close to restaurants and local transit. Unfortunately it is worn out and and marginally clean. There’s old furniture thrown out in the back alley. That’s where the sofa bed that was part of the listing for two beds belonged. The lumpy mattress was nothing compared to the worn away arms of this sofa. Avoid if you possibly can. If we hadn’t been desperate to be close to the hospital, we would have forfeited our money for the two nights.

Probably the dirtiest place I have ever stayed. The shared kitchen was disgusting with open food containers left on the counter overnight and open food containers in the refrigerator. I ate out. The room was booked through my corporation and they insisted on charging my credit card rather than the one used to make the reservation. Very disappointing.
