Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Pandemic is hurting a lot of hospitality businesses. That fact actually helps travelers who otherwise might not find room in this popular B&B which is usually sold out at this time of year. So if you haven't stayed at Barclay House before this is a great opportunity to enjoy a night or so right in the centre of Vancouver. It's only a very short walk to the prime shopping street in the city, Robson, and not a lot further to the waterfront at Coal Harbour, The Convention Centre and famous 5 sails at Canada Place and even the start of the iconic Stanley Park, although, depending on your physical condition you might want to rent a bike or drive to see the whole Park. plus there are many wonderful walks, drives and restaurant filed streets all around. Denman St., Davie Street, Granville Island, Kitsilano, not to mention all the wonderful beaches and Mountain views surrounding this spectacular city. Only a little further afield is Whistler and the amazing drive up the the breathtaking Sea to Sky Highway. And all this from the comfort of this classic Victorian era house in the heart of the city. Because of the Pandemic during our stay they did not serve their usual delicious breakfast but reduced the rate to make up for it. Phone ahead and ask for Denis Kusin to see what the situation is if you decide to book but, we just love staying there and highly recommend it. And, believe it or not, the parking is free, a great savings.

Barclay house is the grand old lady of Vancouver B&B's right in the centre of the city, charming, comfortable, convenient and affordable. During the pandemic the breakfasts have been cancelled, sadly, since they were great, but there are very good breakfast places a short walk away and the rates have been reduced to reflect this new reality. Parking is free with the room though, which is a rare gift in an expensive city. Usually a destination for Cruise ship travelers and others from all around the world, the Barclay House has become a favorite for staycationers from within Canada, until a vaccine is available. We ourselves live miles outside the city and use Barclay House as almost a second home whenever we need to get our urban fix. It's the perfect solution. Close to everything downtown, steps away from exciting Robson Street and minutes by car to all the must see spots such as Granville Island, English Bay and Stanley Park. It's a lovely spot. We think you'll really enjoy it

The b&b is situated in a very quiet upscale area in the West End of Vancouver, only a few blocks from the Downtown shops and restaurants. Our Garden Room had a separate lounge area with comfortable sofa. A fridge and microwave were useful features. Individual luxury toiletries were also well received. On the negative side, talso he shower over standalone bath was a little unsafe as there was no where to hold on to. Our Queen sized bed was not as comfortable as we usually expect.
Dennis, the owner, was very friendly and quick to respond to any requests including booking us a taxi and supplying a new set of towels. The 3 course breakfasts were a little hit and miss as there was no choice. Dennis would however make amendments when asked. Overall, Barclay House offers good value accommodation in a very quiet and convenient location.

Barclay House Bed & Breakfast is a must stay for everyone....centrally located to everything. We were graciously hosted by Dennis. Healthy & delicious breakfast served every morning helped start our day. Our room was impeccably spotless and the entire home gave you the warm feel of "Old World Charm".
Barclay House instantly became our home away from home. Our host Dennis took extra measures into making our stay enjoyable with helpful suggestions along with taking into considerations our dietary needs. We plan on returning back and enjoy the Barclay House hospitality again.....highly recommend.

This B&B is perfect for travellers visiting Vancouver. The location allows for walking to downtown restaurants and attractions (I.e. Stanley Park, Vancouver Art Gallery, etc) while also being close enough to catch transit if you want to visit places like Granville Island or Kitsilano Beach. The free, and hassle free, parking is a bonus for car based visitors. The house itself oozes character in the common areas as well as the rooms. Dennis is an excellent conversationalist who’s both knowledgeable about the area and down to earth. He upgraded my initial room reservation to a suite, which made my stay that much more comfortable. I would definitely stay there again if/when I’m back in Vancouver.

We stayed at this marvellous bed & breakfast for four nigts in late September 2021, residing in the garden suite. This particular suite has its own external entrance which we appreciated. After a long cross country flight, we really enjoyed the warm welcome from our host, and helped us settle in!
The location is extra special, with a nice leisurely walk to the shops and restaurants of English Bay, or a five-minute walk to Robson street.

The breakfasts were exquisite, with a new delight each morning. A warm welcome each morning! There is a small garden area behind the home, hidden from the city noise, where we enjoyed a refreshing glass of wine after a day of touring the city. Thanks to our host for offering suggestions on the city highlights and opportunities.

All in all, a superior bed and breakfast visit in a a magnificient older, well-maintained home!

We're so happy Barclay House is back to serving its delicious multi-course breakfasts again after having to suspend them during the pandemic. We stay at this welcoming B&B quite often, including twice during the pandemic, even without the breakfasts and once more since things have re-opened in the city. And, as expected, Dennis didn't disappoint with a delicious coffee, pastry and a hearty main course omelet and salad to get our day off to a cheery and energetic start.

We live out of town and regularly use the Barclay as a home away from home to avoid the long drive in and out on the same day. We love it because it so convenient, being in the heart of downtown which makes it easy to walk to many hot spots and short drives to every sight one would want to see in Vancouver and surroundings, from upscale shopping to Stanley Park to Granville Island and English |Bay, and too much more for us to list here. But don't worry, Dennis has all the knowledge and helpful guides to help you make the most of your visit.

We also just enjoy the funky century old heritage Victorian building on its quiet leafy street, and the way Dennis has designed each suite to feel so unique and home-like. He really has that special touch. If you are looking for a comfortable welcoming home away from home we're sure that, like us, you won't be disappointed with a stay at this gem in the heart of Vancouver.

Dennis (the host) is wonderful, and responded very quickly to any questions I had. He accommodated for an earlier check-in as my flight landed early. He also graciously upgraded me from the Garden Suite to the Peak Suite without any additional charges. The location of the place is very close to Robson St and Denman St, where there is a plethora of nice restaurants of a wide variety. Furthermore, it is within walking distance (~10-20 minutes) from the City Center and the Vancouver Convention Centre. For the price (it was much cheaper than other places I was looking at) and location, I highly recommend the place for people looking to stay in Downtown Vancouver, and will be looking to stay here again the next time I am in town.

Barclay House is in itself, a beautiful regal B&B located perfectly between Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver, but it is the host Dennis, and his warm and welcoming nature that really makes the House the best place to stay in Vancouver!
Dennis went out of his way to make me feel welcome, upgrading my room to a suite (with a very comfortable four-poster bed), providing a parking space, hand-cooking breakfast, allowing me to leave my luggage with a key to come back anytime during the day (despite having checked out that morning). That's the kind of service you simply cannot get at a corporate hotel. Every amenity you need is provided, as are those you might simply want (such as a good umbrella, and a swiss chocolate!)
Highly recommend staying at the Barlcay House, and I will be returning in the future!
