We stayed here for one night at the end of our holiday and it was a great location for exploring downtown Vancouver. The hotel is a bit tired looking and needs refreshing but the wifi was fast, the bed comfortable and the staff polite. We were able to leave our cases at the hotel while we explored the city.

Six or so steps up from the street, no elevator but the hotel is only 3 stories high, no bellman. Clean and adequate. Good wi-fi, flat screen TV, washcloths, Kleenex and actual glass glasses for drinking. And when was the last time you stayed in a hotel that you could open the window for fresh air? Small window a/c unit if needed. Pricing seems to vary widely on the internet and at hotel. I paid $210 Canadian for a single and upon arrival they were offering $139 Canadian...I guess like the airlines adjust their prices. Good location, I would stay here again if only because the cost is reasonable compared to all the other hotels I looked at.

I rated the Barclay sometime around 2013. I had stayed there a number of times then found an rented an apartment to stay at as my time with vlients in Vancouver ramped up.

I dropped the apartment 2 years ago. I was passing through Vancouver for 1 night and book the Barclay.

The price was as cheap as last time! The room was small with a double bed. But for $75 all in for a place to keep the rain off in central West End Vancouver for one night, you can't beat it.

The bed was comfy, the room was spotless, the WIFI worked fine. Everyting was good.

The lovely tile hallway reminds me of Europe or Latin America. But there is a downside to that even as there is in Europe. Doors closing with the obligatory fire safety closing spring echo down the hall. If people actually had consideration for others, they would not let them slam.

But all in all, th Barclay is a pleasant surprise in overpriced downtown Vancouver. It's hardly a luxury place (take note...no elevator or bellhop) but it's perfectly fine for a night or few without breaking your wallet.

Recently we pre-arranged a five night stay in this basic hotel. Vancouver accommodation is very expensive during their summer tourist season.

It started with a frustrating experience with reservations staff when making and adjusting the initial reservation, to the cold reception upon arrival - “Credit Card & ID please”.

The first night our room had no internet connectivity. The staff claim they were not aware and gave us another room. The second night we had internet connectivity, but no hot water. The third room solved the previous shortcomings, however was under a herd of elephants roaming all day & night. Noise from the slamming of heavy doors, volume of client turnover, thin walls whereby you can distinctly hear your neighbouring rooms conversations, and creaky floorboards where all night long it sounds like a 3 ring circus of activity. Room ventilation is poor and limited to windows, and there is no elevator or parking. There is a wide variety of room sizes and condition. Sadly it's only plus is a good central location, 15 minute walk to the skytrain. We would have left early if they would have refunded our prepaid stay. We would not recommend this hotel, nor would we stay there again.

We booked weeks in advance, drove 4 hours for a concert. Upon arrival there was no staff present, once they came in they looked to come off the streets, very unprofessional, greeted us with a loud sigh. We gave our name and again a loud sigh and we're told to read this paper taped to the desk... the paper basically stated a person could book one or more nights Tuesday through saturday. So again when we asked well what's the problem they replied "I told you to read the paper didn't I?" They then said "like I told everyone else in there waiting, you can call this number and find a new hotel or come back in the morning for a refund" I do not understand how this is possible when we booked so far ahead and had confirmation email and literally emails the day before saying "we can't wait for you to arrive for your stay" I don't know what kind of janky hotel this is but the reviews only seem to state similar problems. This is by far the worst and unprofessional hotel I've ever experienced.. don't waist your time or money. We had to drive back home because of this.

This is a budget-friendly hotel, compared to other properties which offers great value for money. The location is fantastic, central and within easy walking distance to just about all landmarks and interesting areas in the YVR downtown area. All staff at reception were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are basic, but very clean and offer comfort. A most definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

The main thing going for this hotel is the location on Robson Street. A 20 minute walk can get you to English Bay or Canada Place and within 15 minutes you're on the edge of Stanley Park. Lots of restaurants nearby too.

Our room was on the 2nd floor. It was basic but that is what we expected. On the plus side the beds were comfortable, we were at the back of the hotel so it was quiet, the shower was good and we had a fridge (there was also a TV but we didn't use it).

Downside was it needed some TLC and could have been cleaner. The WIFI didn't always reach our room which was annoying and the room itself was very hot. There seemed to be some sort of old aircon unit but it didn't work.

All in all, not a bad stay for the price and location.

Great location, clean room, not friendly but acceptable front desk. We were given upgraded large room. Heating cooling is good. There was a fridge but no microwave, which is a big disadvantage. You can inly cool yoyr food and eat it that way. No toaster. Iron upon request. Free meter parking on street from 10 pm to 9 am. Some back streets have free 2 hour parking which you can extend. Free back street parking from 8 or 9 pm till 11 am. Tims right in front. Some desi iranian stores with halal meat in the back streets (Aria and Barclay conveience) and Robson street. Major stores, Stanley Patk, mosque are all not too far
. Recommended for family stays. 45 minutes from airport. Ten minutes from Canada place.

Not a great experience at all. Fancy sounding name so was hopeful it would be nice. Welcome at reception was non existent so was off to a bad start. In my 3 days staying there never once got a hi/good morning or smile from reception passing in and out.
Room was really basic. Carpets not changed since the 80s I’d say and walls not painted since then either. The very basic furniture you’d pick up for a fiver at a car boot sale. Bathroom was nice and clean to be fair as were the bed sheets, and cleaners were active in the morning.
Location was good and there was a very nice licensed place to eat all day next door, from brekkie onwards.
Zero facilities in hotel.
If the place invested a few quid in carpets, paint job and some furniture then it has potential but until then it falls shy of mediocre.
Couldn’t recommend until then

Aside form being well located for walkscore to main venues, NOT worth it's price.
We had a standard room: double bed and bathroom... that's IT. No coffee (neither room or lobby), no mini fridge, no water fountain, nothing. Run down hotel needing a lot of care to deserve more stars. Room was smelly, half clean (hair on floor and bathtub, scratches on the walls, paint coming off in the bathroom and door rippled by humidity), very noisy air conditioning, old carpet in room. Waken up by the vaccum before 9ham next door. Personal was very nice though.
