The Sylvia is a Vancouver landmark situated next to Stanley Park, overlooking English Bay. It is an older tourist hotel, and the rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. This is not a hotel for travellers wanting a Hilton or Four Seasons Hotel experience. I didn't see any "business types" traveling on expense accounts here. The lounge/bar has a very popular...

I appreciate a well written review. It is obvious that you are well travelled your self and you have written a review with other tourists in mind as you mentioned all the things that guests would like to know before they book a room. Thank-you for a great description and mentioning everything you did as it helps inform the next...

My wife, dog & I recently spent three days & nights (March 23-26) at this charming old heritage hotel and it was everything we hoped it would be. The front desk staff were professional and friendly, the bar quiet with no disturbing television screens (who needs them when one has such a beautiful view of English Bay) and the restaurant...

Thanks for the nice title and comments about your stay. I will be passing along your comments to the chef and food and beverage manager about your experience in the restaurant and how much you enjoyed the food and the fact that we do not have TV's in lounge. We are a pet friendly hotel so I was happy to...

Facing a challenging weekend looking for an apartment, we needed somewhere quiet, friendly and easy to get to in Vancouver. We found it at the Sylvia. From the first moment we entered the lobby, we were made welcome by the staff who treated us royally. We hadn't expected it, but got a large room overlooking English Bay which was a...

I hope you found everything in Vancouver you needed and I was happy to read how much you enjoyed your stay. I also appreciate when guest take the time to mention how clean and convenient the location of the hotel is and that you mentioned my staff service. They all work hard to exceed every guests expectation. I will pass...

A well written short review. The beds are comfy as "we sell sleep" the rooms are clean and safe, the location in central to Vancouver in the west end and of course the beach and Stanley Park are only a few step away. Thank-you for your high scores and rating and taking the time to write a review. Please come...

If you like the West End of Vancouver BC, near Stanley Park, and want to be part of Vancouver's history, The Sylvia is the place. True, the rooms are a bit dated, but charming (get a bayside room)! Steam Heat, great views of English Bay (if the trees are in leaf...go as high as you can go...but don't go over...

Welcome from Portland, thank-you for your comments and mentioning how convenient we are to downtown and how much you enjoyed the location. We are a heritage site and so yes being 104 years old we try to keep as close to our heritage as possible. The views of English Bay and close access to Stanley park is very popular with...

The hotel is near the entrance to Stanley Park and by the English Bay. The hotel staff is welcoming. It is a great location for exploring the city. The rooms are very clean although a bit dated. Overall it is charming.

Thank-you fro taking the time to write a review. Our location is often mentioned as it is ideal to have a hotel so close to Stanley Park and with the beach and English Bay right across the street. Downtown is only a 10 minute walk or 6-8 cab fare away with out having to be in the hustle and bustle...

It's hard to believe that one can stay in a hotel within the city of Vancouver and hear the waves lapping. Check into room 527 and not only enjoy the view but hear the waves when the tide comes in. There is nothing like vintage to help one wind down and put life into perspective.

Thank-you for taking the time to write a review. I see that this is the second review that you have written about your stay at the Sylvia Hotel, welcome back. This was a first for us. We had a mini holiday in our own city, staying at the Sylvia for five days. We loved it! Every morning we woke to sundrenched rooms, and at night saw the sunset over English Bay. We loved all the light coming into the rooms and the fact that the windows all opened so we...

We visit Vancouver annually and we've always stayed with relatives in Kitsilano. This time, something came up and we had to stay elsewhere. The Sylvia has been a landmark in Vancouver's West End for a long, long time. We've ended up staying there because it's one of a handful of hotels in the city that accepts dogs no-questions-asked, and we travel to Vancouver with our 100lb American Bulldog fairly regularly. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
