Many hotels in Vancouver are now very corporate but the Sylvia is different, it really feels like it's part of a neighborhood in the city. This place is quirky, and you never know what your room will be like, but the staff are great and the location is unbeatable. The hotel is also truly dog friendly. A lot of places...

We are a heritage site, and we have been a part of the city for 104 years. I believe we are the only hotel in the city that does not charge extra for pets, (some places charge $25-35.00 per night per pet). You are correct we do have many room sizes and shapes so if you come often you may...

We have been coming to Vancouver for many years and every time we walked past the hotel commented on how lovely it looked. We came back this year as a retirement present for my husband so decided to book the Sylvia and we weren't disappointed it was a great choice. The staff were great and accommodating. The bar and restaurant...

From the warm welcome of the staff to the opulent feel of the room, it was a pleasure to spend a night at the Sylvia. We were immediately upgraded without asking. The ease of parking and the in-house restaurant and bar added to the hassle-free experience.

Stayed here in mid-June 2015 with father. We love many things about the hotel. The main highlights: great bar/lounge to watch everything that's happening on English Bay, nice breakfast with fresh food, and friendly staff. We stayed in one of the relatively newer wing rooms on the north side over the garage area. It was quiet and comfortable. The best...

Ideal place to stay in Vancouver. Someone who has never been to Vancouver and is looking to explore the downtown area and surrounding attractions will appreciate the location. The Sylvia hotel is right on English Bay and next to Stanley Park. You will be steps away from the beach and can enjoy gorgeous sunsets and walks through the park. You...

We were taken care of from the first phone call to book! Kyle at the front desk made check in a breeze and we indulged in some drinks in their very cozy lounge, we also did the breakfast on their patio which overlooks the ocean view of English Bay! Amazing Hotel and Staff ... we will be back!

The hotel has a lot of history and beautiful old architecture. But it is old. Wifi connection is TERRIBLE. Rooms are small and there is a large closet, but no lighting inside. A prime location by the beach in the West End. Good value but you must keep in mind the age of the place. Cozy bar with good views

Stayed at the Sylvia hotel in July 2015 before a cruise. Great location!! Really old hotel. Great history. But if you're in need of modern and super upgrades- stay downtown. Very large rooms. Furniture and style very dated. Cool in a way, but unappealing to some because of the vintage feel. Asked to leave the physical key at the desk...

Special atmosphere of the historical building. Location right next to the beach, Stanley Park and walking distance to Vancouver downtown. A lot of bars and restaurants around. Standard room is not very big, but has everything that you need. There is a comfortable parking garage under the hotel. The best place for a memorable Vancouver stay!

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
