Hope BC. Canada
Reviewed 28 December 2016

We stayed 2 nights in late November, very welcoming atmosphere, We dined in both nights and had great meals, the service was first class. Our room was what one would expect for such a old hotel but it was spotless. The view of English Bay was from the side, just wish the weather had been better. We have a booking...

I hope the weather is much better when you return in late January, so far the cold this fall and winter has been more than normal. Thank-you for your kind words about your experience. The housekeepers will like the fact you mentions how spotless the hotel was. See you next month and please travel safely.

Stayed here with friends in November for one night. Such a wonderful location. Comfortable bed, clean room and site, friendly staff. Lots of charm. Did not have a full meal there, but enjoyed the appetizers we had in the lounge. I recommend this place, no hesitation.

I visited this place with a friend for dinner. The bar area had been recently renovated and it looks very nice. This is a hotel in the old fashioned style and the renovations were true to this. The food was very nice, we shared the steak and salmon combo, and it was washed down with a nice French sparking wine....

Both local friends and friends who were visitors suggested the Sylvia. The amazing location I won't bother explaining, but it was. I came over on a ferry-bus from Victoria, which was a hell ride on the 2 bus legs. Next time a helicopter or sea plane, which the manager (Ross) at Sylvia told me is not that expensive. Anyway, my...

I'm writing this review as I lay in the comfortable bed at the Sylvia. This hotel is over 100 years old and it's just seeping with vintage charm and originality! We are moving from Alaska to California and this is by far my most favorite stay. We hope to come back to Vancouver when we have more time and stay...

Thank-you for taking the time to write a review. I know that Kyle and Sam appreciate your comments and I know how much they enjoy their jobs and it shows in their work. We are a heritage site (104 years old) and have tried to stay true to our heritage. The location is often mentioned and for good reason, I...

If every city had a Sylvia Hotel, I'd wager that AirBnb (or TripAdvisor's own Vacation Rentals) wouldn't be doing quite as well. Let's face it: a large bright spacious very tastefully furnished room in a funky hotel with a fabulous bar and grille in a beautiful locale with super-helpful staff in a city where housing is virtually unaffordable- surely that...

The Sylvia has a loyal following with guests who stay there year after year, which is an obvious recommendation. It has a faded charm, unpretentiously comfortable, fabulous location, well priced, great breakfast, very pleasant staff, and welcomes dogs. We stay every time we go to Vancouver, and so do many of our friends. As another reviewer put it: it is...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
