We love the Sylvia Hotel. It is comfortable and quiet, with a stately old world charm that you don't get elsewhere. The staff are great. And the location is fabulous rught on English Bay and at Dennan St with its vibrant shops and fab restaurants.

Undoubtedly one of the best locations to stay in Vancouver. The West End. On English Bay, steps from Stanley Park, great access to public transportation, stores, banks, restaurants, bars. One couldn’t ask for anything more. The hotel is vintage and at the time of this review is undergoing renovations, which limits room availability, makes the premises messy and loud doing the day, and tools and supplies left in the corridors overnight. The staff are exceptional; friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The one caveat; some staff don’t seem to understand the first rule of customer service....always acknowledge the waiting customer even if you’re busy with someone else. Given that keys must be left at the front desk and picked up every time you enter, waiting until another customer is checked in before you are acknowledged is unacceptable and should be corrected. The hotel restaurant is pricey, but worth every penny. The hotel bar, which features live jazz three nights a week is totally overpriced.

This is an old hotel, always in the process of being updated. The rooms range from just fine to great, depending on what location in the building you choose to pay for. The breakfasts overlooking English Bay are a delight. A current favorite breakfast is lox on a bagel with pickled onion. From here you can easily get to all the things you want to see in Vancouver, and Stanley Park is right outside the door for long walks or short one, depending.

We stayed for two nights at the Sylvia and enjoyed it enormously. The Beach Avenue Suite was huge and was more like a large apartment than a hotel room. The view was incredible out of each of the many windows. The location is unsurpassed and allowed us to have long walks around the seawall any time we wanted. The appropriate precautions had been taken to ensure limited use of the elevator and maid service and that worked fine. Would definitely stay again.

We have long been a fan of the 108 year old Sylvia Hotel. I had to travel to Vancouver and looked at several options for accommodation. The Sylvia has enticing pricing right now and followed good covid practices. Spacing was good in the restaurant and lounge, and all the staff were masked, aware and careful. Daily room service was suspended during our stay, but it was easy to top up on essentials. The elevators were a concern but all the guests and staff followed the posted protocols.
Many hotels allow pets, but few have a truly pet friendly location as well. Stanley Park and the foreshore make dog walking easy.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay.

If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable and reasonably priced hotel with amazing views of English Bay (depending on your room) in what I think is one of the best locations in Vancouver, this is it. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There is secure bike storage and parking is only $20. My favourite thing is that dogs are welcome at no extra charge, which is virtually unheard of. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

This is an old historic hotel so don't expect huge rooms with the latest amenities, pool, gym, etc., but the location and ambience can't be beat. We have been coming here on and off for at least 15 years to experience the downtown Vancouver life right on the water, walk around the shops and the beach, sip coffee while we watch the geese cross the road outside... Plus if you are coming from the states, its not that expensive with the current exchange rate. Some other selling points: Dog friendly, EV charging stations very close (which are currently free), quick bus access to further parts of Vancouver, walk to Stanley Park, and live music in the lounge.
The service experience in the restaurant is not always great when we visit, but I chalk that up to a small space that gets slammed on holidays.

Sylvia hotel is our favourite go to place in Vancouver. It is right on beautiful English bay with wonderful views from their lovely dining room windows and within shouting distance of Stanley Park.
Its the perfect place to watch the sun go down and enjoy one of their delicious cocktails. The hotel has retained a lot of it's vintage charm from the early 20th century with enough modernization on their rooms to make it a comfortable stay, along with very reasonable room rates. It is always our first choice to stay at the Sylvia and would highly recommend it to anyone who would like to experience the decorative charm of the early 1900s right down to the stunning ivy vine that adorns the outside of this quaint hotel. Somethings we would like to see improve would be more comfortable pillows as we found them a tad lumpy and so brought our own on our next visit and we did find one of the front male reception staff a little stoic. He perhaps could be a bit more welcoming to guests checking in such as "enjoy your stay etc..,and upon leaving " hope you enjoyed your stay with us etc..." The restaurant and bar staff where very amiable and efficient. Overall a great place to stay with good value for money.

I have been staying at the Sylvia a couple times a year for 25+ years and it never fails to disappoint.
The location is the best, right on English bay beach, with the sea wall for walking and the little ferry boats for transportation to Granville land, the science center and Yaletown. The pub is the best and often has live music and I love all the added outdoor seating. But it is the friendly helpful staff that makes it the best. The restaurant even heated up a bowl of the evening before delicious carrot/ginger
soup for me at 8 a.m. for breakfast on my last stay as I was unable to chew. The only thing missing is Janet, everyone’s fav waitress for decades. Thank you and see you soon Elaine

I had to find a place to stay in my own city this early summer due to circumstances at my house. I was stressed because I have a reactive dog and I have very little time in which to find accommodation. After researching what was available in the West End I ultimately chose the Sylvia Hotel because of their welcoming attitude towards my situation, large-format suite, and reasonable rates.

I do not know. The rooms that we have used have a full kitchen. There is a full fridge, oven, stovetop, microwave.

Sorry my answer was for different hotel. I apologize. The Sylvia is very walkable. The Seawall is right out front. Downtown is about a 12 block walk. Would drive if wearing high shoes or had packages. Bus access 1/2 block away. Restaurants close by. I am staying there next weekend when I go to Vancouver just because I like it so much
