#12 of 88 in Vancouver
Travellers' Choice
The Sylvia Hotel is a designated heritage building, ideally located on English Bay, beside Stanley Park and just 5 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Built in 1912, the Sylvia Hotel is a city landmark and one of Vancouver's greatest treasures. The location is a favorite for business travelers wanting to be out of the busy downtown core, for families vacationing on the beach or for romantic getaways. The Sylvia Hotel is definitely one of Vancouver's best kept secrets. The old fashioned character and friendly service gives travelers a home away from home. The Sylvia Hotel offers a fantastic location, great value, superb quality with a wonderful beach-side dining experience!

The Sylvia is a unique and lovely place to spend time in Vancouver. It was my first time in the city, and my partner, who has been to Vancouver before, suggested the Sylvia as the right place to stay. She was correct. The hotel oozes character. We had a third floor corner room with trees and ivy outside the windows and the cries of seagulls in our ears when we had the windows open. The hotel is set in a neighbourhood that on one side is the funky English Bay neighbourhood and on the other a more residential area. The beach is literally a few steps from the hotel's doors, offering a chance to walk toward the famous / infamous Vancouver Sunset Beach Barge in one direction and Stanley Park in the other. For us, the highlights were long walks through the neighbourhood and into the park, breakfast in the restaurant with superbly friendly staff while watching early-morning swimmers walk their wet-suited way into the water, and a charming room to come back to when our adventures for the day needed a pause or were finished. Are the rooms super-luxe? Nope. But they are well-appointed, the sheets are high quality and clean, and the room is maintained very well by the staff. It suited our purposes perfectly. If / when we return to Vancouver, I'm not sure what would keep me from staying here again.

Room Tip: I always ask for rooms away from the elevator if possible when I travel; asking for a corner...

The perfect hotel for a “Girlfriend” weekend! Rooms were very roomy and the area is fabulous for walking to catch the seabus to Granville Island or along English Bay! The Hotel staff were very accommodating and the restaurant was lovely! Lots of great restaurants within walking distance in the area! We really enjoyed our stay.

The only place to stay in Vancouver for us! The Sylvia Hotel offers the best in their rooms, hospitality, location, ocean front dining/lounging, noon check out... Walking distance to amazing shops on Robson, Stanley Park, Vancouver Art Gallery or sit on the beach and watch!
