Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Property's Favourite Review
The location was good for everything we did. It is close to Sunset Beach so we were able to see a great sunset! That is also where we could get the ferry to Granville Island. The staff was very helpful with all of our needs. There was an issue with the AC. It never got fully fixed so the Sonder was nice enough to let us check out late to help out.

Excellent location, very clean, spacious and nicely decorated unit. The bed is comfy, towels are soft, would preferred if the TV was in the bedroom, not in the living room. Easy check-in and smooth check out. Would definitely be back!

Our place was quite spacious comparing to other hotels in the aria. For the family of three it was a big bonus on rainy nights: did not feel stuck in a little cave. Clean, neat, comfortable. We had everything needed for a 4-day stay. Great location.

This is such a good hotel! Excellent position if you want to have easy access to public transport to get downtown ( 5-10 minutes to anywhere downtown), walking distance to the ferries to Granville Island, bus ride down to Stanley Park, a block from Davie Street where you have such a choice of eateries, bars, entertainment, as well as car hire facility 2 blocks away. The property is so clean, modern, fresh bedding, modern kitchen with coffee maker, stove top, fridge, kettle, modern bathroom. The staff, although not standing behind the front desk are completely accessible and so willing to help you with your stay. They made us feel so welcome and couldn't do enough for us. This is the best find in a busy, expensive city. Absolutely loved our stay.

I was disappointed overall. Hoped to love this place and did not. Had high expectations based on reviews and pictures. This is an old apartment building that was turned into a "hotel." Cold vibe. Saw one staff member in my 2 day stay, otherwise unattended front desk. Room was chilly, turning up temp on thermostat didn't help and using window heater/fan was incredibly noisy and also ineffective. Old leaky Windows. Uncomfortable too soft bed. Chemical smell in room led to headache. Lower floor room right over alley/parking, sad view and noisy. Electric tea kettle didn't work. Anything good to say? Location is great. Price was ok. I would not return to this property, would pay more or walk farther.

This Sonder is well located, close to Davie, but that is where the good news ends. We paid a lot for 3 nights ($2100)- for a studio . It was more expensive than many of the local hotels and we had been fooled into thinking that it would provide more independence for us in a modern setting. The building is very’tired’. The carpets in the hallways and elevator are stained and appear dirty. The studio (#503) was nothing like the website description or that emailed to me. It was on a low floor looking over an alley and bin stores. It was small and dark and noisy - we could hear people in the hallway and next room. There was initially no one at the reception so I tried to do an ‘App chat’ through the Sonder app which was a complete waste of time. The person I was communicating with was Vancouver and had no idea about how to resolve the situation. We then found someone at reception who did work hard at finding a resolution and moved us to a bigger ‘one bedroom’ apartment on a higher floor. This was a marked improvement - we had a sitting area and separate bedroom. There is a kitchen also. This was closer to the mark for what we were being asked to pay. On the plus side - it gave us independence to come and go and prepare food if we wished. There are also laundry facilities. For the price I think that new carpets could be put in!

Room Tip: Avoid lower floors. Don’t be fooled by the flashy photos and description sent via Sonder app....

Nothing specific was wrong but a whole lot wasn't right. Overall the place had a "crash here until I reconcile with my wife" vibe, not "fabulous Vancouver vacation". Things that were not quite wrong but weren't right. Terrible lighting, a few cheap LED lamps with awkward switches and sterile blue light. Uncomfortable furniture. Monochrome boring decor. The room was air conditioned, technically, by an ancient rattling window unit half blocked by the curtain. The building is old and noisy, hearing everything happening in the hallway and much of rooms above and below. (Ear plugs on the nightstand! I guess they know.) My first room, #202, was dingy and sad and with a balcony 4 feet over the alleyway parking lot. They moved me to a better room but still not great. (Facing Burnaby and a higher floor are preferable.) The thing that I keep coming back to is the carpet in the elevator and hallways. Old filthy industrial carpet, years of chewing gum ground into it. The rooms themselves are nicer and cleaner but that carpet set the tone every single time I came and left the Sonder Sunset. The good things.. The location is central and very convenient to Davie Village. The automated check-in stuff worked fine.  The kitchen was adequately set up, you could probably cook a full basic meal there. The room wasn't actively bad, I felt safe and it had the minimum of what I needed. But I chose to cut my trip early in part because the apartment wasn't very comfortable. Which leads to one specific complaint; they have a very unfriendly cancellation policy, including absolutely no refund for checking out a few days early. That was stated up front so I can't quite complain, but I sure wasn't happy about it either.

Stay for a week with family of 4 (parents and 2 teens) in a room with a king and pull out sofa. Great view of the mountains and liked the layout of the space and the clean, airy feeling. Kitchen is very useable- good layout and equipped with all the basics. We were able to make breakfast each morning. Also liked the laundry (on a separate floor, $2 CAD per load; they provided detergent). Once huge perk are the free luggage lockers- we were able to store our bags and enjoy our last day before a late flight. There were about 14 lockers, first come first serve. Location was excellent- just a couple blocks from a 24 hour shoppers mart and bus stops. The neighborhood is lively, lots of smaller restaurants, the smell of pot and overflowing trash cans are common. Nice shopping and more touristy areas are about 10-15 min walk away. Things that could have been improved- The bathroom is surprisingly tiny considering the spacious living area- barely room for one person to stand and turn around. There was mold in tile grout on shower floor, and very low water pressure- took forever to rinse hair. The provided shampoo does not lather. The bedroom dresser is behind a door, making it hard to open drawers or walk past. The lighting in living area is very very dim- only two edison style bulbs so very hard to see to read or play games. Parking lot is small- very tight spots that are hard to get into, but cost is reasonable. Most of these are minor (would like shower to be cleaner) and we still enjoyed the location.
