Great property. Probably one of the best Marriott properties in GVA. Service, room, and facilities on-site were top notch. I had a corner suite and it had a great view of the harbor. Platinum Elite benefits were also provided proactively. My only complaint is the front desk seems to be understaffed at times. Expect to wait for quite a bit if you're checking in or need to speak with them. Recommended.

I had booked a one-night stay for my Vancouver trip at the JW Parq. I heard great things about this property so I was really looking forward to my stay here. At checkin, I inquired about a suite upgrade as a Titanium member. The front desk agent (Dan?) told me I would need to pay $150 to stay in a one-bedroom suite or $1000 to stay in the sky suite. I contacted management that day to express my concern, and they told me that no suites are available, yet on the Marriott app, many suites were available for booking that weekday night and the agent said they're available as long as I paid extra. Not only did they not offer a suite upgrade, but they gave me a room right next to the elevator. Breakfast at this hotel was also an interesting matter. They have a separate breakfast menu for elite members with much more limited options and you have no choice but to do in-room dining. That's right, you cannot eat at the restaurant for breakfast as Marriott elite member, but if you have no status or your status was below Plat, you are welcome to eat at Honey and Salt restaurant. It's really bizarre. I also found the hotel was not centrally located compared to other hotels I've stayed in Vancouver. The only thing I enjoyed was the gym. It's pretty big for a hotel gym! Overall, I was really disappointed with my stay here.

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent stay with us, and thank you for your loyalty as a Titanium Elite member. I am terribly sorry we were unable to meet your expectations. I looked into your reservations and can confirm all of our standards suites (those that our Elite members such as yourself would be complimentary upgraded to) were fully sold out for the night of your stay. The discounted paid upgrade that was offered was to one of our luxury suites, and these are not eligible to be complimentary upgraded to. I apologize the room you received was beside the elevator, and I have made notes on your profile to ensure we do not place you in a room like this at our hotel again. Lastly, I do understand how frustrating it is to only have in-room dining as an option for your Elite breakfast, and we will absolutely look at our offerings moving forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me further at Cassandra.doyle@marriott.com.

A one star review seems very generous for this hotel/casino at this point. Here is my story at the JW Marriott. On December 19, 2021 at approximately 1:00am my fiancé and I were thrown out of Parq casino. I put a hold chip at the blackjack table to go use the restroom and when I returned we were being escorted out by security. I was shocked and confused. I was able to cash out my chips but left my very expensive jacket on the chair at the black jack table. Security was forceful and did not give me the chance to collect my thoughts let alone my things. When I asked why we were being kicked out they replied that my fiancé was drunk. This came to a surprise to me because neither me or my fiancé are heavy drinkers. My fiancé was buying shots for some friends that we made at the casino but we did not show signs of drunk behavior. At this point we were at the bottom of the escalator by the entrance/exit. I asked the security guards what made them think we were drunk and they replied "you guys just need to leave." This made me upset because I wanted a clear answer. What behavior did he or I myself exhibit that made you feel as if we were drunk. When I realized I left my jacket at the casino table I told them I needed to retrieve it. They did not acknowledge my request. When I said I was not leaving until I got my jacket they became forceful and started shoving me. Mind you, I am a 5'2 110lbs FEMALE against 6 security guards who are all twice my size. They pushed me and shoved me to leave and I told them that this was ASSAULT. I called 911 at approximately 1:32am. But I was disgusted that 6 men ganged up on me to throw me out when I was no threat to anyone. I then requested names for security guards since they do not wear badges with names on them. The only security guard that did have a name badge, COVERED HIS BADGE AND TURNED AROUND when I asked for his name. Come to find out he is a Supervisor named BROCK. All of BROCK's security buddies became provoked that I asked and started shouting at me saying "he had nothing to do with this! Don't bring him into this!" At this point, I was in tears because this was such an unprofessional and TRAUMATIZING experience. My fiancé was consoling me and told me we should leave and contact management the following day. The following day on December 20, 2021, I called head of security and BROCK answered. He said no one else was available and he was the supervisor so I decided to wait another day. The day after on December 21, 2021, I called head of security again and someone named Sam answered. He took down my information, name, number and email and said I would get a call back. Never did. They also would not tell me who the head of security so I would never know who to contact besides Brock. The fact that Brock is a supervisor and allowed the other men to assault me speaks volumes about this hotel and it's integrity. My fiance and I were loyal to JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, we always played at the Casino, dined at Honeysalt, and stayed at the hotel several times a year when I visited from California. Parq Vancouver will never get business from us again. I can not speak badly about the other staff but the security guards are evil, abusive, conniving and operate like thugs. They are also great at covering situations like this up. A response to this review will look something like this, "At Parq Vancouver, we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all our guests. We have reviewed the camera footage and the security guards took the necessary steps to ensure their safety etc" But here is my response to that: I encourage you to review the camera footage and post it so everyone can see how your security guards treat young women who can not defend themselves. Brock and his team that night need to be fired and they are fortunate I am not taking legal action against them. JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, please do better than this and do not allow this to happen to anyone ever again.

Exactly what we needed… The Mrs. and I used to travel to Vancouver 2 to 4 times a year prior to the Covid pandemic; it really is one of our favorite places. So – as soon as the Canadian government reopened the border, we immediately planned a trip. I went online to the Amex Travel website to see which “Fine Hotels and Resorts” property in the area had the best rate, as we always try to take advantage of the “Fine Hotels & Resorts” benefits associated with the Amex Plat. For this particular weekend plus (we were there for five days total), it was the JW Marriott Parq, which we had not stayed at before. Positives first… It was SO good to get away from all the angst and tension associated with being in the United States right now…get away from the day to day ugliness of people seemingly being as unkind and inconsiderate as they can muster. The Mrs. and I both commented that you could tell immediately – just as soon as you crossed the border – how much more pleasant and peaceful things were in Canada. There was an election going on for the Prime Minsters office….you wouldn’t have known it. No drama. No hatred. No disrespect for others. No fighting about vaccines or mask wearing, no purposely flaunting rules, no screaming at people just trying to do their jobs. Just better. So much better in fact, that we were back in Vancouver again two months later, but that is another review. Anyway, regarding the property - the people were just FANTASTIC. Friendly, polite. Just really helpful and pleasant. Every single person we dealt with at the hotel seemed to be actively working to make our stay more enjoyable. From the moment we arrived and got help with our luggage, to the front desk staff (Chris? Who doubled as the Concierge and was just a rock star all week), to the housekeeping staff, everyone was just tremendous. Five star all the way, from arrival to check out. Thank you, JW Marriott Parq…we needed that. Details – we were upgraded to a really nice sized corner suite room with a view (another Amex Plat “Fine Hotels and Resort” benefit), which we enjoyed. We had dinner at “The Victor”, one of multiple restaurants in the hotel, a dining experience which was so nice we went back two months later, even though we weren’t staying at the JW Parq. We had a couple meals at “Salt”, another of the hotel restaurants, and those meals were good as well. Just a really great, relaxing stay. So why not 5 circles? Why not “perfect”? Well… I couldn’t shake this feeling that the property wasn’t REALLY “5 star”. Maybe it is just too big to have that truly top tier luxury experience. It just didn’t feel like…The Rosewood…or the Fairmont Pac Rim, or the L ’Hermitage, all of which we have stayed at before. For example, the lobby seemed to always be crowded and loud. There were so many young women coming and going all the time that one point I wondered if there was some sort of cheerleader convention or modeling competition going on. And our room – nice in concept, but….filled with worn, damaged furniture…not just a scratch or two…no, it looked like it was ready to be tossed out. Like someone had purposely damaged it…water damaged wood, etc. The sofa and chairs had stains…the wallpaper had spots. Green….goo? on the ceiling. Nothing was unusable, just everything was more tired and worn than you’d expect at what looked like a relatively new 5 star property (from the outside at least). I didn’t understand it. Then the wife explained it. The casino. The JW Marriott Parq is a large hotel that hosts houses a very large casino. And she suggested that such a hotel would probably see a lot of drunk and rowdy people…party types…who would damage furniture, stain the carpet and chairs, peel at the wall paper, make a room look worn and stained and dirty with just…their behavior. Or, maybe the casino attracted the sort of people who just aren’t used to nice things. People who thought of hotel rooms as just some place to sleep when they couldn’t muster the strength to pull the slot machine lever anymore. You spill something on the sofa or carpet – who cares? Footprints on the wall paper – so what? To be clear – the room did NOT look like it had been trashed. It was NOT a disaster. It wasn’t even bad enough that we complained to anyone. Everything was functional (including the “way-too-bright-wakes-up-your-spouse-when-you-go-to-the-bathroom-at-night” bathroom lighting…dimmer switch JW Marriott…please and thank you) But no way a room at the Rosewood (our personal Vancouver favorite) would have looked like that. No. Way. The casino theory also explains the endless coming and going of young women (I am not kidding…bright eyed brushy tailed 20 something women, none stop, all five days). All of that said…. The staff were SO fantastic we would absolutely go back. It really was a most pleasant stay. Some of that sentiment might have been just our craving for respite for all the chaos and angst in the United States, but that just further makes the point. We desperately needed an escape, and the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver provided one. Thank you, JW Marriott Parq.

We decided to have a mini staycation and chose this hotel. Great place to stay if you are attending an event at BC place stadium. Stayed here for 2 nights for a little bit of relaxing time. When booking, I did not realize that there was a football and hockey game for the Friday night. But with all that extra traffic and people around, our room was quiet and cozy. Restaurants in the hotel were great too. Little issues did arise, but they were handled quickly. Restaurants in the surrounding area were also good. Very walkable places to go to. Overall a great stay.
