The Urban Hideaway is definitely an experience we will not forget. It's a cross between a B and B and a hostel, one without noisy travelers. The best kept secret is that it's CASH ONLY. This was very inconvenient for us as we can only withdraw a certain amount of money each day from the ATM which required several trips...

I was safe, serene and secure in this centrally located, no shoes indoors guest house. The old house is not glamourous but it's homely. My upstairs private Squirrel room was very quiet with easy access to both bathrooms. The bed is comfortable. Patrick is a genial host who manages to provide charming hospitality with the minimum of fuss. Breakfast in...

Yes its a good location and the bed was super comfy. However, the place smells very stuffy and bordering on "bad." Definitely lacks fresh air flow. Breakfast is a make yourself kind of a deal. Nothing exciting. Rooms are on the small side, with shared bathrooms. The owners are nice but it feels over priced for what you get. Main...

Third visit to Urban Hideaway and it is improving all the time. Patrick has certainly put his stamp on it. The kitchen has been improved and the breakfast menu has been expanded. The place has been polished up and looks so much brighter and cleaner. I wouldn't say any where else in Vancouver as it is so convenient and such...

We stayed two days in a bunk room with four bunks. Overall, it was an inexpensive, very clean guesthouse with nice breakfast accommodations. I only have a couple reservations about this hostel. First, they do not accept credit cards (only cash) which is a huge hassel, in my opinion, and they did not forwarn us that they do no take...

I have just stayed at the Urban Hideaway for 6 nights, what a wonderful experience and my first intro into hostel stays. Firstly the staff here are amazing! Patrick is the manager and he has some travellers who help out around the hostel when he is not there. They are all wonderful and helpful people. Patrick was a wealth of...

The Urban Hideaway Guest House provides a great location, friendly service and clean rooms. Patrick runs the place with true professionalism but also with a sense you're staying with family. He knows the area very well and can offer advice on what to see/do. It's easy to get around from its downtown location. We'll definitely be back!

Personable service and a unique take on the guesthouse experience make this place a perfect choice for downtown Vancouver. Rooms were spotless, great location near the Skytrain, free wifi, free breakfast and sizeable room. Patrick runs the Urban Hideaway with class and treats everyone like best friends. He is a wealth of knowledge and it feels like you're staying with...

I stayed at the UHG as a last minute thing and had such a great experience. I was in Vancouver for 6 weeks exploring the city and using it as a base. I found the other guests ranged in age from 18 to 65, but all had a lot more maturity than the people in the hostels I stayed at....

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
