Swell Tofino was a 5 star experience. Highly recommend this surf school. Excellent service, accommodating changes, prompt replies, but best of all, the instructors were super positive and encouraging , teaching all day in cold Pacific without any sign of fading.

I recently had booked the room on a trip to Tofino,,,,the location couldn't have been better an the view was fantastic....Rooms where Ok in size...but could be updated with the décor...very outdated...the room also had been sprayed with some very strong air freshener that lingered for the whole time I was there...even with the large pation door left open for a long time...the hot tub was an added bonus

This is the 4th time we have stayed at the Swell Lodge, we have recommended family and friends as it is an amazing experience.
The owners, Betsy and Chris go out of their way to share their little bit of Paradise with every body. Most of the people that we have met there have been going there for 20 years or more and that in its self, says everything, you do not go back that many times if it is not a nice place to stay.

It is primarily a fishing lodge, therefore, because of tides, some times guests are up early to catch them but if that is the case.....then we are all usually up. We have communial dinners most nights, all taking it in turns to cook or make salad, there is an amazing larder, suppiled by the owners: salt, pepper, herbs and spices you name it, one can usually find it, they have had a new kitchen installed including a dishwasher. Outside there is a BBQ and a fire pit for the not so warm evenings. The gardens are beautiful and the views are stunning.

Last night there were otters on the wharf, kingfishers, herons near by, plus this morning we watched an eagle catching a fish and eating it on a near by rock that we could see with the telescope in the dining room....supplied by the owners...then to crown it all, humingbirds were feeding in the garden, this was all before 8.30am.

There is so much to do and see, plus if you want to fish...then Chris is the person to go with, he is a very experienced fisherman...knows the waters like the back of his hand and he sees everything, we went out with him and he said, ponting to a bird on the water....that is a puffin and lo and behold it was, amazing...we have seen orca's, grey whales, humpbacks, black bear, Chris nearly always finds some thing to make the trip out more exciting each time...plus he knows where the fish are too!!!!!

We are back in August for a few more days as we cannot get enough Of the Swell Lodge and the Swell folk that own it...Well done Chris and Betsy you are the best mine hosts we know !!!!!

I have stayed in many hotels/motels in my life, but I have never experienced such bad service. I stayed at this lodge this summer. I was given a room that was right off of the kitchen/common area. What I didn't realize when I took the room was that you can hear everything that goes on in the kitchen/common area. It wasn't so much of a problem in the evening, but in the morning we were woken up at 5:00am by people conversing and having breakfast. This went on till 6:30am. At 9:00am I went to talk to the person who ran the lodge. No one was in the office. I left to do some sightseeing and tried the office again at 1:30pm. No one was in the office. At 2:30pm I went back and was told by another guest that the person I was looking for was down at the docks working on his boat. I walked to the ramp leading to the boat and waved to him to indicate that I wanted to talk to him. Instead of coming up to meet me he stood in his boat wiping his hand until I walked down to the docks. He didn't even greet me. Instead the whole time I talked to him he acted as if I was a nuisance. I told him about the situation in the morning and asked if he would put up a sign asking the other guests to keep the noise level down in the morning. I was leaving the next morning and didn't want to bother asking for a room change. He acted as if he could care less, but said he would put up a sign. Then he asked me when I was leaving and I told him the next morning. He said I had to settle the bill today since he was going fishing tomorrow morning and wouldn't be around. I said I would settle the bill now. So he told me to meet him up at the office. He left me standing outside of his office with the door locked while he wrote up the bill. When he was done with the bill he unlocked the door for me to come in. He didn't even bother to open it for me. I paid him and that was the last I saw of him. The next morning was a repeat of the morning before with people up at 5:00am making a ruckus. Before I left the lodge I went into the common area to see if a sign had been put up and there was nothing.

This Internet rental was a lesson for me because I relied on a limited description to select the room and while it was a «room without a view», it ended up being an isolated basement room with a «hint» of humid smell and limited external light. I rolled with my choice and made the best of it, but next time, I will ask more questions on this matter of rooms without views. The common room, with a full kitchen and excellent WiFi link made up in part for my room, because of its quality and general pleasantness. During my three days stay, there was no room service at all, and I didn't ask.

The Swell Lodge, Tofino, BC presents the traveller with a truly “fishing lodge” experience. This is not a place for pampering spa types that want the west coast experience. No, this caters to the sports person, being it hiking, surfing or, more likely, fishing. The rooms are very clean and comfortable albeit sparsely furnished. A common area upstairs (or in some cases beside) provides a very well stocked kitchen, dining and living room area for meal preparation, etc. You must bring your own here including such things as cream and sugar for coffee and the like. But all else is supplied. Courtesy dictates you clean up after yourself. This does present some noise issues as early risers prepare breakfast, especially for those upstairs rooms adjoining the common area. Outside is a very nice deck area, a hot tub and a lower sitting area around a fire pit. There is a grass area with pleasant garden which lead onto a rather rustic dock where your boat can be moored. The operators, like their guests, are laid back and provide you with a very friendly visit.
Again, not for the trendy spa types looking for the storm swells, but I would not hesitate to encourage you to visit this well priced west coast lodge.

Tofino is one of my favorite places on this planet and I've been there 8-10 times over the last 20 years. Luckily it hasn't changed too much. Last May I went there with my sister and mother for my mother's 70th birthday and it couldn't have been more wonderful. It was their first time in Tofino and all of us loved staying at the Swell Lodge for this special occasion.

The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable, with spectacular views of the inlet (my favorite side.) We had the common areas to ourselves and loved preparing meals in the well equipped kitchen while enjoying the views (aah, those views) through the floor to ceiling windows. The weather was on the cool side otherwise we would have loved to spend time on the deck or in the beautiful garden. The atmosphere at the lodge was very peaceful and idyllic.

And Chris & Betsy did a great job looking after us, making us feel very welcome and not minding resetting the internet for us a few times! Chris also took us around the inlet on his boat which was spectacular and one of my mother's favorite moments.

Tofino is worth a trip in itself but a place like the Swell Lodge will make it perfect for you!

Thank you Chris & Betsy

We stayed a week on the beach side of Tofino and loved it. Then we went to the sound side and found it also pleasent. Thw Swell Lodge was a beautiful location with a deck on the water with a crab cooker and spa. The ketchen and common room were upstars and large and well equept with books and telescop/ People were friendly but no one knew where the help was or what to expect. Some people knew each other and went out on a boat looks like the boat was part of the lodge. The gardens and water view were the best we have had. A block away was a public dock with a place to buy crab caught that day.
We should have bought one and joined the party on the deck that night. We did not know any one so we stayed in our room. Then we found out our well went dry at home and could'nt stay the nexr day. The owner finely came home that night and refunded our night so we could go home right away. The room was down stars kind of like a basemwnr but was clean. and they allow pets so our little shih-tzo was made at home. All in all I would like to go back and be more at home with the owners and guests. It was a beautiful place

I love the Tofino Swell Lodge. Not only are you taken care of by the best hosts, Betsy and Chris, but their kindness continues even after you've left. I unfortunately forgot my favourite pillow, and after a call, I received it at home within 24 hours. Thank you Betsy & Chris for making me feel like a VIP!

I would give zero stars, if there was an option. My room smelled damp and stunk clothes due to humidity. Door was a sliding door that you needed to keep closed if you wanted privacy but if you did close them then you had no natural light. No screen so if you leave door open, the room gets full of bugs/mosquitoes. Someone tried to enter my room at night. Unsafe stairs due to burned out light. Thin walls and you can hear guests from other rooms or common area. No fridge or coffee maker in the room. Terrible WiFi. Poor internet signal, even when you use your data. I booked my room through the booking.com web site. The room was not on upper floor, as it was stated in my confirmation.
