Hotel Zed Tofino is a hotel experience that completely rebels against the ordinary. You may be used to our retro-chic motel feel in our other Hotel Zed locations, but Hotel Zed Tofino is a whole new vibe. Think: totally gorgeous, swanky 70's pad. But this isn't your Granny's crib (unless your Granny was a very stylish rebel!) Our rooms and public areas are groovy and chilled out. The style is deluxe and you'll never get bored here with our sunken living room, retro office, psychic's den and...what's that? A bike path that runs through the middle of the lobby? Yeah, you've never seen anything like this before. Plus, we’ve got an on-site bird sanctuary for you nature lovers. World-famous Chesterman Beach and the Inlet are both a short stroll from the hotel, and if you wanna roll into town we’re right on the bike path. Quick note: There are still some old photos on here from travellers before we built this new hotel so ignore those. This hotel is brand new! Peace and love, rebels!

Hotel Zed Tofino emerges as a vibrant retreat, celebrated for its eclectic atmosphere and unique decor, appealing to both families and younger adults. Nestled conveniently for regional exploration, guests have lauded the hotel's array of entertaining amenities, including a pet-friendly policy, arcade, and relaxing hot tub.
While opinions on value show some dissent, focusing on price and room sizes, praise for the hotel's cleanliness and stylish rooms is abundant. Detailed Reviews
I was a little unsure if a retro hotel was in the cards for us, thinking they may have picked up retro items from Salvation Army or thrift shops. Boy was I wrong! Everything is high end reproductions of 70’s such as the phone, the curtain to the huge shower..the carpet in the hall etc. Everything was spotless. Wes at the front desk and so down to earth and keen to answer any question. The lobby is a sunken living room with tons of games of course from the 70’s, the disco room was fun.. playing music as the floor flashed to the groovy music, various rooms all themed , just go ahead and sit down in this one or that one all in the lobby. A bus made of wood? A free pinball room, with an Amazing way to enter. You Have to try to find it from the lobby. Nope not giving it away, but I sure squeaked in delight when then finally gave in and told me where is was located. Hot tub, fire pit areas, chairs everywhere to enjoy the outdoors, a pathway to the back of their huge property ending in a great dock overlooking the water. Get up early for shots of the sun coming up over the mountains. Dinner expensive as expected but there are 2 menus…..and you can eat in the dining g room from either menu. I had the KFC and it was really good. Anyway, you’re 6/7 minutes away from the maddening crowds in Tofino ( though zero crowds when we were there) and quite simply we would return in a minute.

It seems to have been completely renovated. There is a refrigerator in the room and parking is available.
You can reach the beach within 10 minutes on foot. Tofino itself is about 5 minutes by car - be careful - there are few parking spaces. It is 20 minutes by bike.
It was advertised that the dinner was supposed to be great with the fire grill in the kitchen.
We were very disappointed with the amount and quality of the food. The price was also on the high side.
The breakfast, however, was great.
Would not go there for dinner again.
There is also a bike rental at the hotel.
Room service did not work once, even though the "service please" sign had been put up on the door early in the morning.

Hotel Zed Tofino was a really fun experience with our teen. Vacations can sometimes get boring for kids especially in the evenings, but this place had so many great things and he especially loved the disco room and the hidden video games room. We played ping pong, found the secret hammocks and the VW van made of wood was beautiful. There are board games in the sunken lounge too.
The room was very clean, nice decor and comfy beds. Housekeeping lady was very lovely and helpful. There was quite loud music from downstairs which went on until about 11pm on one night but the other nights it was turned down by 10pm. Just something to be aware of if you are noise sensitive, request a 3rd floor room or one further away from the restaurant.
We met some cute dogs in the lobby and bar too!
As you’ll find with most hotels in Tofino there is no AC in most rooms We got lucky with the weather for August and daytime temps were 70 ish which was totally fine. The windows in the room do open (they are screened) and there is also a fan if you need it. Nighttime temps drop a lot too so it was very comfy. I imagine if temps were above 75 it might not be as fun.
Dessert at Roar was also delicious and we really appreciated a dairy free option was included which tasted amazing.
Overall a lovely stay. Best hotel in the area in my opinion!

This is a quirky and funky looking hotel that appears to be aimed at younger adults and families. However, there were quite a few people of our age (70s) and above staying. Some of the facilities are good such as the showers but overall we thought it poor value for money.
Pros
Good showers
Friendly staff
Comfortable bed
Cons
Room very small. We have been travelling extensively in the US and now Canada. This was the most expensive accommodation we used but the room was the smallest we had. We were in a queen twin room after changing our dates due to Covid striking some of our party earlier in the trip. We suspect the king room we booked originally would have been more spacious as from the photos the rooms look the same apart from the extra bed. I don’t see how four people could possibly fit comfortably in that room. Limited space to hang clothes and store luggage. Nowhere comfortable to sit apart from on the beds.
Lack of privacy due to the proximity of the toilet to the bed and gaps between bed and shower. Same for the sink which is situated in the main room.
Poor lighting especially in the toilet. There are lots of individual switches for different parts of the room but no central light.
Lack of housekeeping. Room not made up. Stated to be because we didn’t go out till 11 but there should have been ample time after that before we returned at about 5.30.
Lack of staff. There didn’t seem to be enough staff especially in the restaurant, which led to waiting quite a while to be seated for breakfast and slow service of food.
We appreciate that the extra charge for changing our dates was waived when we raised the above at check out but overall we were underwhelmed and would not return.

Hey Auntieh22. Thanks for taking some time to provide us with a thorough review. We always love to hear back from past guests, however it is usually more important when things did not go as smoothly as anyone wanted. This is how we make sure future guest have the best stay possible. Sorry if you didn't love your room layout. We certainly want our guests to feel comfortable and it sounds like this wasn't the case for you. I am also disapointed to hear that Stay Over Service was missed. Our guests should expect to have their rooms refreshed daily. Not cool. We also don't love hearing that you had to wait for service in our restaurant. Sorry about that. Waiting is never fun when you are hungry, especially when you want to head off on a Tofino Adventure. On the positive, we never get tired of hearing how great or staff is. Triple thanks for that. We also love hearing how cozy our beds are and how life changing our showers can be. Thanks for al the great feedback. We hope you and your crew had a groovy Tofino Adventure. Cheers

This place blew me away. When I was booking a room a couple of weeks out and it was one of my limited options, I was somewhat reluctant to book into a "theme" hotel. My reluctance evaporated instantly when I walked through the doors. The property was so welcoming and beautifully designed. The retro style wasn't just from a bunch of old junk a proprietor had in their garage previously. They were all new, high end finishes in a groovy retro style.
The staff at the reception desk were top-notch. Taking their time with you to explain the amenities, and provide recommendations for whatever you were looking for in Tofino. If you asked for something, the individual who took the request seemed to do everything in their power to make it happen themselves. For example, we asked if there were beach towels available to borrow. The front desk agent said yes, explained where they were (by the hot tub, which we would have been more than happy to go get ourselves), and he immediately ran out behind the hotel himself to grab a pair and bring them back. No radioing for someone else to bring them, no deferral of responsibility - he made it happen.
Lots of great decor, inside and out. The designer of this place must have had so much fun pulling it all together. In addition to the visual, there were so many details that made a huge difference.
The beds were amazing. With the blackout blinds and quiet, I slept very well.
The french press in the room for coffee, along with fresh ground coffee and real milk provided at check in.
Outdoor showers with warm water to rise that sand and saltwater off, instead of the abrasive cold water found in most spots. Was a great welcome back after a short walk back from the beach.
Roar and Beachside Provisions both had top notch food. I wish they sold the green sauce from the restaurant by the bottle, but they were kind enough to let us know the ingredients they use in it.
There are a bunch of other amenities that you can find listed on the website. I think the lesson is that you can take the listed items as a best attempt to provide those services and not just enough to check a box to say they have it for a booking website.

Wow wow WOW! Thanks a million for taking the time to write this review. It always feels good to hear a guest loved staying here as much as we loved having them! All of the antique items were hand-thrifted by our CEO, Mandy Farmer, and they work so wonderfully to create a retro-chic feel! One of our core values in to make everything better, and we love that you talked about our team living that value for you. Also, we've got great news! We're working on selling That Green Sauce in Beachside Provisions, so hopefully you'll be able to score some of that on your next trip!

My husband and I brought our 13 year old female cat along to our trip to Tofino. After hours of researching every possible option for accomodation in tofino and ucluelet, we decided on Hotel Zed. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the very friendly staff. They were extremely accommodating every step of the way. We choose the basic king bed option and it was perfect for a couple with a pet. Our cat was purrfectly happy with the room, the bed was comfortable, the shower was great (2 options for shower heads), and absolutely no noise from any other rooms whatsoever on the 3rd floor. The coffee at the cafe was great( as long as you love a good strong cup), the jetted hot tub was perfect and is on the lower temperature side as to probably not cause blood pressure concerns. We literally just got home from the trip and our cat is laying on my trip bag dying to go back. She loved the place. We were happy its a pet friendly hotel that didnt charge an arm and leg for the night and cleanliness was impeccable. We will be going back as soon as we can! You cannot find a better place than this for price, pet friendly, and fantastic amenities with outstanding customer service!

It is a wonderful location and the room was perfect. I loved the retro feel. The game pit was well used and it was great to see families talking and playing some of the old favourites such as Sorry. The laundry area is a real benefit to families because it can be a dirty place in the fall.

The Hotel Zed in Tofino is a must-stay! Located just minutes walking from Chesterman Beach, it's in the perfect location to enjoy everything Tofino has to offer. The staff is friendly and the hotel was spotless, with amenities like ping pong, shuffle board, hot tub, sauna and bike/surf/paddle rentals right on site. We came as a couple but it would be wonderful for a family stay as well. Don't miss out!

This room has no A/C for a whopping $300 a night, it has a window that opens 2 inches at the most, and comes with a retro fan that pushes no air and sounds like a jet engine. Again no a/c and the room is 26 degrees Celsius. Avoid at all costs as even the restaurant is beyond expensive and overrated.

Hi Genevieve. We always love to hear back from past guests, however, it is most important when things did not go as smoothly as anyone wanted. Thanks so much for taking a minute to share your feedback with us. You are correct, some of our rooms do not have A/C, sorry about that. We are currently looking at brining A/C to all of our rooms thanks to great comments like yours. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't love the food at ROAR. We always want our dinner guests to be blown away and it sounds like that wasn't your experience. We would love any specific comments on what it was you did not enjoy. Feel free to reach out to me or the restaurant. We want to make sure future guests don't have the same issue. All and all we hope you and your crew had an EPIC Tofino Adventure. Thanks again for the visit.

Having stayed at other hotels in Tofino, figured to give this place a try given it is the newest hotel in the area. Originally I thought the 70s-inspired decor would be tacky but I ended up loving it!
The staff were friendly and helpful. In addition, there were a lot of unique amenities such as a games room for when the weather wasn't so nice.
The room was fantastic and felt light and bright due to the large window. The room was a bit stuffy for my liking even after turning down the thermostat but luckily I could air out the room by opening the window. I could see the room being hot in the summer since I don't believe the hotel has AC and the room had a retro fan so beware.
Loved the rain shower with plenty of hot water and a separate toilet but if you are sharing with someone else the shower could be a bit problematic as you have no privacy compared to a traditional bathroom. The Wifi is decent for Tofino. The bed was very comfortable and the curtains were blackout so I had some of the best sleep I've ever had in a hotel and it was enjoyable to spend each night watching Netflix. I also appreciated there were a ton of outlets in the room for charging various devices.
The only negative would be that it can be challenging to snag a parking spot when the hotel is busy since there isn't a ton of parking. In addition, some guests were noisy slamming doors and talking from the hallway which I could hear from inside the room but luckily it wasn't late in the evening when I was trying to sleep and more of an issue with others' courtesy to fellow guests.
I think it is a fantastic hotel to stay at if you are able to get a deal and will definitely consider coming back for the right rate but high season rates of $600/night for a 2-bed room are shocking. My only other gripe is that it would have been nice if they had a suite/room with a kitchenette.
