Enjoyed the impeccable accommodations in the Sunset room. Exceeded our expectations. Hosts were engaging and provided a delicious breakfast. I enjoyed direct access to Chesterman's Beach. As St Patrick's day was approaching, we were serenaded to an Irish bagpiper. Saw nighttime frisbee game, sea kayaker, and Beach campfires. So close to Tofino.

We just came back from a 6 day stay at the Brimar on Chesterman's Beach in Tofino and were absolutely delighted with it. Sandra serves the most fabulous breakfasts with new treats every day and enough food to easily keep you going until dinner. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a great view of the ocean. The ensuite bathroom was huge, too. It advertises itself as adults-only, and we met several very interesting people. The location could not be better, with the beach just steps away, and the town and national park each a short ride away. Five stars.

This place is THE BEST place to stay in Tofino. Beautiful, quiet, exclusive, right on the beach and reasonably priced. It feels like a home away from home. We stayed in the loft and would recommend it to anyone! We will be back!

The rooms are very tastefully appointed, clean and offer fantastic views of the beach which is only steps away. The sound of the ocean surf is very soothing. The location is a 5 minute drive from Tofino shops and restaurants but offers the benefit of being on a fantastic walking beach with great sunset views. We stayed in two rooms - the Loft for two nights and the Sunset for one night. Both are very nice. The Loft is somewhat more luxurious, with the clawfoot tub, large glass shower and skylights. However note that both the tub and shower are open to the main room and offer no privacy for those that might want it. One other drawback to the loft is the extra set of stairs to navigate with all your belongings. The Sunset room, on the level below the Loft and one level above the entrance level, is also very nice and roomy and has a completely private ensuite with shower, but no tub. Both rooms have nice TVs and cable but we seldom turned them on. The Moonrise room has no ensuite but has a private bathroom off the hallway.

Although we loved the accommodations, our reservations are based mostly on the breakfast - this is a "B&B" after all. Although many reviewers have praised the breakfasts, we cannot. First, it is only served at 8:30am. We found this to be too late for our planned activity schedule. Arrangements could be made for a continental breakfast but we were hoping for something more substantial. There is no brewed coffee available at any other time, although there is instant coffee and a kettle in the main entrance for use at any time. We found this to be unworthy of a B&B that promotes itself as top tier - the rooms could easily accomodate their own coffee machines. The breakfasts were a disappointment and the other guests at the table shared our opinion. Portions were very small and most came from grocery store frozen food sections. One exception was quiche day and it was very good. But it was served alone with nothing else (no toast, bagels, jams). There was a fruit bowl on the table but it only contained basics - apples, oranges and bananas. Once the plates were placed at the table there was no service at all. Not a big deal but unexpectedly poor compared to the majority of B&Bs that both we and the other guests had experienced. One other couple actually wanted a refund so they could locate to another B&B.

Having said that, it is a lovely place. Adam and Katie are friendly hosts/managers but were mostly absent during our stay. We would certainly recommend it but not as whole-heartedly as some of the other reviewers. They need to improve the hospitality side of the business.

Response from AdamHoopsy, Manager at BriMar Bed and Breakfast
Responded 7 Nov 2011
To maintain the best value and lowest off season rate for beach front accommodation in Tofino, we have structured our policy regarding breakfast during Winter, Fall and Spring as follows: • Fall, Storm Watching, & Spring ($149, $99 & $79) rates includes light breakfast of tea & coffee, juice, baked goods and fruit selection. Breakfast substitutions are not available. This policy and information is provided at the time of booking and upon confirmation of booking, and should be a consideration when choosing to stay at BriMar during low season. During Summer we proudly serve a full gourmet breakfast overlooking beautiful Chesterman Beach. Whether you choose to enjoy a long walk on the sandy beach literally in our back yard, or sit comfortably by the old-fashioned wood stove and daydream, we will make sure your time with us is wonderful. The house is in a wonderful location and the rooms were very comfortable. There are a couple things that kept from making this B&B a five star experience. The owners are not on site and the Inn lacked a "welcoming" feel. The room was a tad dirty (nothing awful - just not super clean). The service really was really lacking (e.g., dirty coffee cups were not exchanged each day). The manager of the inn was friendly - but you get the sense that the guest's needs and comfort was not his top priority. Overall, the locations really made this B &B a good experience - but some improvements could be made on the service.

We stayed here after having stayed down the beach at Chesterman beach bed and breakfast which we much preferred. Based on the reviews and price we expected much more. There was no one to welcome us when we got there at 5 but rather just a note. The sunset room had the views as advertised but no comfortable seating in the room. It had 2 spindly chairs looking out. There are no chairs on the beach to use but there are 4 chairs right in front of the inn but they are usually in the shade and can not be taken to the beach.
The breakfast was not to our liking and you had no choices nor were you asked why you liked. One morning was eggs benedict which is great if you like that but I don't like poached or running eggs and there was nothing else hot.
The manager seemed more interested in sharing her activities than helping us plan ours. The living room where you can sit and look out felt sterile and uninviting.

Response from BriMar_Bed_Breakfast, General Manager at BriMar Bed and Breakfast
Responded 23 Sept 2014
I’m so sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your visit to BriMar Bed and Breakfast and am thankful to have the opportunity to address your concerns. In regards to the breakfast options, although we don’t offer a full breakfast menu to choose from, I do ask each and every guest ahead of time if they have any dietary restrictions/allergies or if there’s anything they don’t like. I have even gone as far as to remake a guest’s breakfast to accommodate preferences they may have forgotten to mention when asked ahead of time. In regards to the check-in process, in the event that I’m in town getting groceries or maybe out walking the beach, I place a note at the door to welcome guests and to ensure that they can access their rooms with ease. I also touch base with all guests immediately upon my return to the house if I’ve missed them…in your case a lovely visit at the beachfront seating area shortly after your arrival. Our beachfront seating area provides a “one of a kind” view over Chesterman Beach…our hand crafted Adirondack chairs are kept in such good condition specifically because they are not left on the sand to deteriorate. Tours bookings, dinner reservations and recommendations are offered daily to each and every guest…the other guests staying during your visit enjoyed both bear watching and flight seeing tours…all of which I was happy to arrange for them while they dined each morning (including accessing discounts for BriMar guests). I was happy to book dinner for you at one of the finest restaurants in town; it was so unfortunate that nothing on their menu appealed to you. Although I realize you found the local stores to be over priced and the local market not up to your expectations…I would love the opportunity to host you both again to change the feeling you have about this paradise other guests rave about and where I am so fortunate to call home. As you can see from previous feedback given and our high Trip Advisor rating, I’m confident I can help you to have a better visit next time. Please feel free to call me directly when you decide to visit again; I’d be more than happy to arrange both a customized breakfast entrée for each day and pre-book any excursions you’d like to try. Again, thank you for your feedback and I hope to welcome you again in the future! Take Care

We had a couple of days in Tofino to break up our city road tour of West coast North America, it didn't disappoint! Beautiful scenery, chilled atmosphere and great food and drink. We picked BriMar as it rated well and seemed well priced compared to other Tofino accommodation options and we're glad we did.

On arrival we checked ourselves in following instructions that had been left out for us that were very clear and welcoming. Our room (moonshine) was sparsely furnished but actually had everything we needed for a couple of night's stay. We had a 'to die for' view of the beach and pacific ocean. This was advertised but we hadn't anticipated that it would be so vast and beautiful. We slept very peacefully with the sound of the ocean waves. The only slight issue was that our bathroom was across the hall, although it was for our use only. Robes were provided and actually the BnB was always very quiet anyway so we didn't mind making the journey outside of our room to ablute!

We didn't meet Paula, the General Manager, until next day at breakfast. But when we did she was friendly, warm and helpful. She plied us with a delicious 3-course breakfast consisting of fruit with yoghurt and granola, veggie quiche and blueberry bread with jams. Without being intrusive she gave us tips about things to do and places to eat in Tofino. It was also good to be sat with the other guests and have a chat with them too.

There was a slight mix up on check out as we had requested an earlier breakfast so that we could get back on the road in time. Unfortunately this had been overlooked at the last minute but within seconds Paula had rectified it by ringing a local coffee shop to fix us with coffees and breakfast bagels. That's customer service for you, thanks Paula!

All in all we had a lovely, chilled time in a location that was breath-taking and memorable.

We would definitely stay here again. The B&B is spotless -- Paula recommended activities and restaurants and even made reservations for us. The view out our Sunset Room window was lovely -- right onto the beach, and to top it all off we were served wonderful breakfasts each morning. What a relaxing place to stay

This place was amazing. Phenomenally clean, comfy bed, loungey bit where you could sit and read in front of the fire if you wanted. Fantastic hosts & as I've seen in lots of other reviews, the breakfasts were stunning. Even though we were there in January, we had a great walk along the beach (which is literally just outside the house). We stayed in the Sunset Room (there aren't enough reviews on here about the Sunset Room!). It was really nice - giant bed, plenty of other space, big en-suite and great views over the beach & ocean. I would recommend this place to anyone any time of year - it was simply fantastic.

Arrived and greeted by someone whose English was very poor so couldn't give us directions of how to drive to somewhere to get a meal. Had to carry own suitcases up two flights of stairs to bedroom. Sign telling us to take shoes off first. Little table and fridge in main entrance hall with kettle and cups on for guests to make their own hot drinks, which looks dreadful as you walk in through the front door. Our bedroom was the Sunset Room which had two upright wooden chairs in it which was hardly suitable for relaxing in to watch the sunset! The breakfasts were good. We left a day early. Very expensive for a very basic boarding house.

I think we paid around $250 CAD. This place is worth every penny. The house is stunning with a lot of character. Comfortable bed. The host, Heather, was also so lovely. Everything was incredible clean, the breakfast was amazing, and you walk right out to Chesterman Beach. It is perfect and I would stay there again in a second.

Answer from BriMarBB

Good morning, Thank you for your inquiry! We happily host children 12 years and older. Our rooms can accommodate a maximum of two people in each one, as each room has either one king sized bed or one queen sized bed. Although none of our rooms open into each other, to of them are side by side, which is easier for families travelling together. Let me know if there are some dates I can check availability for you!
