First the restaurant is closed until september , because they have no staff , no one on the premises during the day , front desk is empty , this is a very busy season because of covid , and the area is completely packed with tourists. So they are charging much more than it’s worth , the back of the hotel is packed with junk that’s obviously been there for years , no sun in the back , no micro wave , , one small night table , we were there for 3 days no room cleaning , we had to put our garbage in the street bin , prefered we didn’t park in the front even if the restaurant was closed the only road leading in to Tofino was closed for 2 hours because of major repairs until septemberwe were stuck there . When we got to the hotel the owner new about all this but never even advised us in our emails .

The location was fantastic, walking distance to everything in town. Our room had a huge balcony with Adirondack chairs overlooking the ocean which was a great place to sit with coffee in the morning. As guests, we received priority seating in the restaurant which was definitely a bonus. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The only downside was the remote for the TV didn’t work so we couldn’t use it, but we didn’t come to such a beautiful place to watch TV so it was okay. I’d stay here again.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. I though it was very expensive (by British standards) BUT, the view from our very spacious room was worth every penny. We had a huge picture window facing west ish with great views of the sunset. We had room 4 but room 5 would be similar

I'm a mould inspector who travels the island for inspections and mould remediation's. I called the inn at tough city for a room. They said they had an overflow room that was a renovated storage room that we could stay in. When I arrived and checked inn they said it was a cash only room and did not accept a credit card. The room had a heavy mould smell and worn out furnishings. I was shocked as this is not worth $231.00 {after taxes}per night. I went up to the front desk and asked for another room. They offered me a room with 1 bed and a cot. I accepted but after grabbing my stuff I went to the front desk and said we are going to pass on the room with the cot. They said ok, thanks ,by. They recommended another hotel. We ended up finding our own.
I got home in a few days after the job and found that they had charged my credit card even after I didn't stay there. I called them to ask about the mistake and they refused to return the amount. They were very rude to me and dishonest. Saying business it's business. Don't stay here. !!

The hotel sent us a vague email that they will be closed until Sept 3rd and we are now stuck without a place to say because of the crazy shot notice they gave us. They did not even bother to cancel the reservation I made through Priceline and I had to do this myself. It leaves me wondering if I had not cancelled would they have just kept my money? Needless to say, I am pretty angry. While I understand COVID is a thing this year, BC has no travel advisories in the area at this time. A phone call to tell me this would have been good customer service but nope, just a rude email.

Make sure you ask for either room 4 or 5, the views from the balcony are great. Big rooms with a big bathroom. Quiet hotel considering it’s above a restaurant.

Very odd decor on arrival throughout the hotel which need updating. My only negative point is the musty smell throughout the reception and restaurant area.

Nice, clean rooms and everything as advertised. Not a luxury place, but a quaint, romantic inn with a fantastic (partial) view from the balcony. friendly staff and easy overall attitude makes this a nice weekend getaway location. Best rooms are the ones facing the water.

Our first time travelling to Tofino, we had no idea of what lay ahead. What we found was the most picturesque spot on earth. Everywhere I looked, something took my break away. Including my first sight of the Inn @ Tough City. We happened on it purely by coincidence, it was one of the only accomodations available when we arrived (we had not booked ahead). I booked it on the phone with BC Tourism. When we arrived I was simply awe struck. I love antiques, so this was definitely my place to be. We can't wait to be able to come back. but will book one of the rooms overlooking the harbour....and you have to have dinner on the back deck at sunset! What a treat!

Regrettably, this place is a complete waste of money especially during the busy season. The building is in need of some major repairs and the service is absolutely awful. We have never been treated so poorly and we travel extensively; we also visit Tofino quite often as we find the residents and scenery alike lovely. The man, who appeared to be the owner, was vulgar, rude and a poor excuse for a Canadian not to mention a complete embarrassment to the people of Tofino. I HIGHLY recommend steering clear of this establishment and choose to support a hotel who appreciates the business...

Disgusted....

I just recently returned from Tofino and a three night stay at the Inn at Tough City. Tofino was the subject of a national Canadian news story as the town's water supply was decreasing to a level that precipitated business closings and mass confusion. It also exacerbated some fundamental problems with the Inn. I telephoned before I even got there and was assured that whle the shortage of water would be an issue the Inn would remain open. I had rented one room at 239 for the first night and a cheaper room with less of a view for 169 for the subsequent two nights. Even that was a little steep but I wanted to stay in town and this place looked reasonable on its website. I should have checked the Trip Advisor beforehand as I found most of the complaints to be legitimate.
My expensive room was on the waterfront with a view of the harbor. It was negatively impacted by the fact that the owners have nailed a banner advertising their sushi restaurant on the front of the balcony, obscuring the view when you are sitting on the balcony. About half of your vantage point is obscured by this sigh which is attached to the porch of the balcony. Idiotic and unnecessary.
The next day when I asked about transferring rooms, I was told "Don't worry, stay where you are. All rooms will be fifty per cent off". This because at this point it looked like the water shortage would force the owners to have you shower next door at their home and use a Port-O-Potty.
The city never shut off the water so this drastic impact never occurred but we were gien a flyer that told us to barely use the shower, Not use the sink water when brushing our teeth and so on. No ice machine access. Don't use your "soaker tub".
Other than making the bed and a very cursory cleaning of the bathroom, there was no real housekeeping. The bathroom floors and balcony hadn't been swept and the bathroom was pretty funky.
The kicker came when I checked out. It was a weekend so I got what was obviously a part time employee who was totally confused by my bill which was a handwritten scrawl that had been scratched out several times. The first call next door elicited the information that I was to be charged $229 for all three nights! Sorry, unacceptable. The desk clerk then walked over to the house next door and the new rate was 229 for the first night and 169 for the two subsequent nights, the original price before the difficulties with the water with no adjustment for the inconvenience and certainly any "fifty per cent off" now not in evidence.
I think that the fifty per cent off comment was made to insure that like most of the guests I wouldn't just cancel and leave. These folks just give an impression of being overly graspy and frankly a tad dishonest.
I was not surprised when I heard that the town had rejected a plan and tax hike in 2005 to upgrade the city's reservoir system. These folks seem to love the money that tourism brings in but they don't really understand that to run a first class operation you can't have a small town mentality. It's got the overall feel of a [--] venture that is really shortsighted. The Inn at Tough City has that quality in spades. It's not really a bad place but for the money and attitude I won't be back and it's not worth either the steep price or rough around the edges feel.

Do all rooms overlook the water?

I am not sure, ours was indirect but I would assume they would use a water view of any type as a selling feature. It would be best to ask for a room with a good view.
