While Covid protocols are in place and the Lodge helps guests reduce environment footprint, they’re not using some simple and effective cleaning strategies to reduce mold in the bathrooms and around the bathroom sinks. A little spray bottle with vinegar and blue dawn soap would make these tiles look brand new and not give your guests that unsettled feeling that it’s dirty.

The breakfast though limited because of Covid offered delicious muffins, croissants, fresh fruit, yogurt and juices. The service staff are helpful and friendly.

These rooms in the adult lodge are small. As in bumping into walls to get around small. The sink is in the bedroom and there is no closet though there is a long wall of hooks.

You can buy firewood for the private beach. There is a restaurant on the premises but we did not use it.

The scenery is why you come here. Ask for a beach view. Our mountain view was little more than a grove of trees.

We stayed at the middle beach lodge for 3 nights at the end of June and were disappointed to find out that so many amenities were not available to us. At the time of booking we had thought our stay included a continental breakfast, access to the restaurant and bars and great rooms. A few days before our trip we received an email saying that all of those amenities were closed. We asked for a discount or refund and they wouldn't accommodate either. The room was nice but tiny and only fit a bed- no tables, fridge, sitting place or anything and with the great room closing at 5pm we had nowhere to sit in the evenings. Our patio was not undercover and so the outdoor chairs were soaking wet the whole trip since it rained every day. I think this would be a wonderful place to stay if it were fully functioning. But it was not worth the money for 3 nights without the amenities. Very disappointing that the great rooms were closed in the evenings and they even wanted to charge us a corking fee to have our own drinks there even when their own bar wasn't fully operating.

Our group had the whole Beach Lodge for a private event and it was great. It had a great main lounge for us to have our breakfasts , relaxing after beach and forest hikes , walks into town and hot cookies at 8 pm !
Some of the rooms are tired, need updates and mattresses need replacing and we heard they were closing after our group left , for updates .
We'll look forward to going back !

This is fantastic location we had a room which had a wonderful sea view and we saw a whale within 5 minutes which was an unexpected bonus. The suite was really good and the hotel is in a colonial style which was pleasant. Tea and coffee was available f o c all day So why only a score of 3? One morning the butter ran out at breakfast and another morning coffee
wasn’t available as they had no filters.
We arrived at 6.50 pm and they would not serve food so we had to drive into Tofino. We came back and I wanted a drink the bartender gave me a menu and told me to make myself comfortable and she would take my order. We listened to 4 members of staff laughing and discussing girlie things for 10 minutes so I went back to the bar and the other 3 scattered so first impressions were now bad. Later they were all outside watching the sunset and another member of staff had to disperse them so someone could get a drink.
We had an interesting crab meal but the crab was undressed so many customers did no know how to eat it. It just needed someone to do a demo and this would have added so much value and stopped a lot of wastage. The food was excellent however
When we checked out the desk clerk did not have a clue but she was assisted by another member of staff who was nearby
Overall impression rudderless with so much potential to improve

We just spent 4 nights here and enjoyed the location as it is right on the cliffs above the beach and very close to town.
Breakfast is adequate but gets a bit repetitive after 2 or 3 days.
Staff was friendly and always available to answer any questions.
Room on the second floor was okay but furniture is dated and floor gets pretty sandy when you are out and about every day and no cleaning being done.

Old motel caliber property. Dirty, dingy carpets and nothing updated since 170’s. Inaccessible beach full of seaweed. Dirty, old yellowing tiled bathroom sink outside of bathroom right next to the bed. No foot space inside the room. Toilet didn’t work properly. Paper thin walls, can hear everything when trying to sleep. Smells like mould. To add further insult to injury, NO alcohol served at the adults only property to make the stay somewhat bearable. If I managed or owned this property I would be ashamed to charge $250+ per night for such poor quality accommodations and lack of amenities.

We’ve enjoyed many stays at MBL over the past 20 plus years, twice bringing family members from England with us. As we posted FB photos of this week’s stay, those relatives have responded with remarks detailing their happy memories. Our oldest daughter and her husband came here on their honeymoon 21 years ago. So, we have history with MBL. Why do we return? Friendly, helpful, energetic staff; fabulous location (waterfront, 20 - 30 minute forest and beach walk to downtown Tofino, short, easy walk to Middle Beach or MacKenzie Beach); a good variety of accommodations to suit various group sizes and configurations; accommodations configured on the property for maximum privacy and quiet; varied offerings at the complimentary breakfast (we’re not big eaters so don’t miss a full breakfast); an option most evenings to sign up for a 3 course supper (appreciated by our guests); blissful views from most rooms . . . I’m sure there are more advantages I’m missing - but it’s time to go for an evening stroll. Oh yes, considering the astronomical costs of accommodation here on the west coast, quite reasonable!

We stayed here for three nights, and honestly didn’t want to leave. We had room 32 which had a partial sea view, but we could see the sea from our room and we could leave the door to the balcony open at night and hear the waves crashing on the rocks. I was a bit disappointed when we first saw our room as there was no fridge and no tea/coffee making facilities but soon realised these did not matter: the bar is happy to give you ice and there is tea and coffee available from 7am to 9 pm each day. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. Erica who checked us in stands out! We were a bit disappointed that they weren’t doing food for two of our nights there, but the first night we walked along the beach to the bbq bar which had a live band playing and a great atmosphere and the second night we drove into Torino to Shelter which was superb. The third night we ate in the hotel and it was excellent food and good value for $39 each for a three course meal. The seafood tagliatelle had an enormous amount of seafood in it, so great value. We recommend walking along the beach and up to the main road, crossing over and visit the Tofino Botanic Gardens. A very special place! Highly recommend this hotel and Tofino as a whole. .

My husband and I stayed at the Middle Beach Lodge for 3/2n for our honeymoon trip.

Love the beach front view from our room (queen w/partial beach view) and the nature sea waves sound. The wood nature-based deco of the building especially the lounge area is very calming and relaxing. The staff at the lodge were friendly and helpful. We were greeted by them as soon as we entered the building. The lodge offers complimentary continental breakfast in the morning and the food was great . The lady worked at breakfast was very approachable. The lodge has private access to the Middle Beach and we enjoyed our morning walk after breakfast. Besides, it also offered complimentary parking for their guests and there are plenty of parking spots in the lot.

The WIFI service was a bit slow but acceptable considering it location on the island. Also, the road before the MacKenzie Resorts was very bumpy so made driving very difficult. However, we were informed prior to our arrival so it was expected.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Middle Beach Lodge and had a great time in Tofino!

Cheers!

Visit #6 was delayed because of pandemic and related border issues so we were thrilled to arrive. The dirt road was better than in 2018 but I don’t see why the lodge couldn’t pave it for the city. We lucked into meeting Bicycle Marc and rented e-bikes to enjoy the pitch perfect new bike trail. I highly recommend it. I agree with other reviewers that breakfast gets old after a few days even tho it’s good—variety is the spice of life! The setting and cabins were as wonderful as ever but the staff were either indifferent or poorly trained, especially the cleaning staff. We were in three rooms over the two lodges and a cabin and all of us noticed housekeeping shortcomings ranging from hair in tub upon arrival (Headlands lodge) to not making beds to burnt out bulbs to unfulfilled requests to replace empty shower gel container. It feels like there needs to be an attentive adult around. And, if I were asked which investment to make next—easy—thicker towels. Consider what we guests are paying you not just what towels cost you. Despite the gripes, this is a perfectly sited place in one of the most beautiful places I have been lucky enough to visit.

Hi, are there restaurants within walking distance, 45 minutes or so, and is it safe to walk at night?
Answer from Laurie B

There are restaurants at the lodge and nearby, however, it really depends on what time of year you are travelling there. Several were closed when we went as it is not as busy a season. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast and we also had a full kitchen in our cabin.

I would contact the Lodge directly. The room we stayed in did not have coffee/ tea making supplies available. You were able to go to the common area Lounge for hot drinks. This may have changed due to Covid regulations. Enjoy your stay, very lovely area to explore.

You will need to contact the Middle Beach Lodge directly. I don't they actually check Trip Advisor at all. We were there last June, and they did not have the full breakfast buffet. It was still plenty to eat, with lots of fruit, and different pastries. You had to tell them what you wanted, and take it back to your room. I am sure that they have not changed their format at all. Covid numbers are on the increase.

No hot tubs at the resort. All the cabins are up on the cliff. You have to walk down to the ocean. The access to Middle Beach is a short walk, and the beach there is very private. The beach on the other side is busier, as it has more resorts sitting on that beach, as well as the campsite. And you can not get to that beach when there is a high tide on the main trail. There is another access trail, but it is not as easy to walk down it as the main trail.
