Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

4 of us enjoyed this place immensely. Beautiful surroundings, quality furnishings and equipment in suite. Host very accessible but not intrusive. Quiet. Clean. Sunny and Bright with excellent blinds. For regular people, it seemed like a real luxury. Highly recommend.

Lots of fun at Black Bear, love the privacy and proximity to the beach. Would recommend in a heartbeat. Quiet, safe neighborhood tucked out of site. I can't wait until my next pacific rim adventure at the guesthouse.

We stayed at the Black Bear during September. It truly is a wonderful place to stay. Waking up in the Osprey room each morning to Glorious sunrises was magical. Evenings spent around the firepit on the deck watching the ever changing colours of the sunset hitting the mountains was magnificent. Bobbi, Jay and Kathy are wonderful hosts. The breakfasts were all freshly made in front of you. Jay came up with some great recommendations for dinner/takeouts, and his enthusiasm and knowledge of a special part of the world only enhanced the stay. With the vast expanse of Chesterman beach across the road if you wanted to watch the sun descend into the Pacific ocean, Black Bear Guest House ticks all the boxes. We did not want to leave.

I booked this guesthouse last year in mid 2020 and this week have been told that they want me to cancel my booking as they don't want visitors from the UK due to covid. I'm aware that nearer the time our trip may have to be postponed but to cancel this far ahead is appalling. The UK vaccine rollout is one of the best in the world so far so by Easter we would have been vaccinated so really annoyed that now I'm having to hunt high and low for a replacement hotel for my husbands 50th. After this I would urge uk visitors to look elsewhere as they clearly do not want our business. 😒

Nothing to do with not wanting UK visitors. Under the circumstances I would hope that you would have more understanding. Canada was just opening up to local travel and considering the dire situation of so many businesses like ours it was not possible to book oversea travellers. It’s very unfortunate you have no empathy for the situation many of us with businesses founds ourselves in with the lockdowns. Sorry you had to be put in such a position that almost ruined your husbands 50th. I’m glad we still have a business that survived the restrictions and shutdowns.

Seems that all the great kudos for this destination are for the upstairs over the garage suite & from when this was a bed & breakfast; which I was under the impression was still in place when I booked through booking.com a week ago but was subsequently informed by the owner was no longer in place. The "cedar suite" which sounds awesome & which we ended up in is a dark/dingy room beside the garage with concrete floors, no view, no TV, and, surprise, surprise, a screen covered short passageway to the main house through which you can hear the kids, lovely as they are.
The cedar Suite is to be avoided, unless you just want a place to crash, in which case very good deal!

My husband and I stayed 2 nights here this July. The rooms have a hotel like feel in their presentation, cleanliness and extras. Infortunately we didn't get to meet our hosts as they were out of town for the weekend but Kathy made us an absoutely superb breakfast. If you judge a B&B mostly on the breakfast, as I tend to (if you feed me yummy food I am happy) then you will be over the moon! And if you judge them by anything else you will be extremely pleased also! Great place to stay! Rebecca and Frank

Life does not always treat you well, but if your road takes you to the Black Bear Guesthouse, you just know, that life is not so bad afterall.
The house and views give you more than what you paid for, but what Bobby & Jay give you as hosts, is priceless.

Forever grateful for an unforgettable 30th birthday,

Your friend from Luxembourg.

(if you want to experience Tofino like I say in the subject, just ask Jay!)

We have been here in August for 3 nights! We loved it so much! It is about 5 Min. with the car away from Tofino. It is beautiful located in a small bay. Many beaches and trails are so close. Tacofino (you have to try it when you like Tacos) is also real close! Our room was perfectly clean and super cool decorated. Bobby the owner was just fantastic. So incredible nice! She helped us with every matter, especially with our problem, that the airline lost our luggage. If you want to visit Tofino (which you should, because it is such a great place) you want to stay at this guesthouse. We were so happy that we found it.

The house is tucked away off the main road in a tranquil inlet. The inside is just amazing - clean, comfortable and rustic. The exterior is serene and overlooks the sound. Lots of areas to relax in including a deck where we sat around the firepit with a beer gazing up at the crystal clear sky. Breakfast was phenomenal - cooked fresh and all local produce. Hands sown the best breakfast ever eaten in a place where I was staying. Very friendly welcome and knowledgeable owners who checked in several times without being intrusive. Stunning bathroom and plenty of rooms. My only gripe (we were in the room upstairs above another guest) is that I had a disturbed sleep as I could hear the other rooms' occupants snoring through the floor (apparently the room is soundproofed but he still got through!) However, waking up to the mist covered estuary made up for this ever so slight inconvenience. We will definitely be back - worth every penny.

Location was only a couple minutes drive into Tofino, owners go extra mile to provide you with things to make you stay more enjoyable ( provided us with rubber boots (our sizes) to walk the beaches and explore. rain suits in rooms to use , offered us bikes as well. recommended several activities and hikes to do as well as places to eat. Room was spotless clean bed was comfy.. note no TV in the room which we knew before renting
