I had the greatest four days at the travelers guesthouse! Staff and fellow travelers were really fun, helpful and friendly, the room was comfortable and super clean, the communal kitchen was a great place to hang out and make dinner plus the waffles that super nice Matt made us every morning were the perfect start to our days! I will never forget my stay there and would definitely recommend this place

This cute little yellow house right by the docks at the end of the village became my home from home for a week! The atmosphere in the house is so relaxed and happy, it's the perfect place to meet and get to know some wonderful people; staff and guests alike, and an ideal base for exploring the stunning hiking and surfing spots around Tofino, With the wood burning stove and plenty of books and instruments; the living area is cosy, peaceful and inviting and the kitchen with its beautiful long handmade wooden table and plenty of space and communal ingredients is the perfect place to cook, hang out, exchange stories or play games. The spacious bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and the bunks are super comfy too! Waking up to freshly made waffles and coffee and the beautiful sea views every day is something I'll definitely miss, as well as the beautiful people I met here! Thanks Nick, Kristin, Pauline and Jess, and of course all the lovely guests that shared this special guesthouse with me!

I stayed here over the Canada Day long weekend and I have nothing but glowing things to say. I have travelled to many places and stayed at many hostels, and this is barnone one of the best ones I have stayed at. The hosts, Nick and Erica, are very hospitable and make you feel at home. The coffee in the morning is great, and the location couldn't be better. I am a value investor at heart when it comes to anything, and you easily get great value staying here. I would recommend this to anyone and I am planning on returning.

I've been hesitant about submitting a review for this place because my stay at the guesthouse was mixed:

I stayed at the guesthouse on two separate nights during my trip in Tofino (at the start and end of the trip). The first night was great, Jane was really nice and showed me around very quickly! I didn't spend much time socializing and went straight to bed (driving all the way there by myself was exhausting). The breakfast was great and the owner seemed very keen on helping other guests to get around and catch amazing deals of surf lessons or excursions. I was looking forward to my next stay at the end of my trip.

My second night was slightly different. I was definitely more relaxed and social, as I had ended a surf camp. The owner (Nick) offered all of us a shot of Fireball but I ended up having to take more than everybody, which I thought was weird. Nick went on to say that I was cuter, more social and nicer if I had alcohol in me. Like other girls had mentioned, Nick asked too many questions about why I came to Tofino by myself. He told me to lighten up a bunch of times and definitely made me feel bad for not staying there the whole time, and said that I had been a cold person to him on the first night. His flirtatious ways definitely made my night awkward and I just couldn't get out of there faster.

It's really too bad because the place itself is awesome and the people who work and stay there are really great. Nick just needs to step it down a couple of notches and be more professional towards his guests.

We are blessed with so many wonderful travellers here at the guesthouse, but every once in a while we have a problem case as is this one. They say they are hesitant to write a review but they do so right away. They go for as much impact as possible. They run to the internet to vent. While at the guesthouse they talk about buying drugs, their boyfriends habits and so on.... it is just not a good fit. We, and everyone associated here are trained to make sure guests fit in, the guests are stable and honest. We are not a hotel, people take pride knowing we are looking after their best interest. If you have something to hide then it will probably not be a good fit. I am sorry but the safety of everyone is more important. We ask questions, it is not really even for the answers to questions but to ensure it is a good fit here. Lastly we attract people from all over the world to help out here. As you can see from the amazing reviews. We are consistently in top of reviews on most major sites. This year we have asked 3 people to leave, and we will continue to do this to ensure the safety of everyone here. I truly wish you the best but we can't be flexible with safety.

I had a chance to get up to Tofino to try out the surfing and by chance ended up staying at this place. It's in a great location in town overlooking the water and the B&B itself is spotless and the fresh bread at breakfast was great. It looked like the place had recently been renovated too. What turned out to be creepy as heck was the owner - a guy called Nick. I am an attractive young woman and travelling solo I always expect to get hit upon - but not from the host of the place I'm staying at. This guy was initially pleasant enough but the next day he kept asking me if I had a boyfriend and telling me that I looked really hot. It made me feel really uncomfortable and not at all welcome. If you're a couple or a guy then you'll probably do fine staying there. If you're a single woman then I'd look for some place else.

I stayed at the guesthouse this summer, there were nice guests. But the owner Nick is really manipulative, he pretends to care about the guests (he's really good at that) but I think he's more interested in making money. And he's very flirty with good-looking girls... I slept in a dorm room and it smelt very moldy and there's no real bathroom, the sink is in the hallway between showers and toilets, it's very busy and narrow. But the other staff and the guests were cool...

We at Tofino Travellers Guesthouse are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay here. All of us strive to help our guests get the most from their time in Tofino: from sharing insider hints and tips, to helping people go kayaking, surfing, hiking and more. We do make it very clear that those sleeping in our Bunk Fun City room share the bathroom and shower space. However, for guests seeking greater privacy, we also offer rooms with private bathrooms. Irrespective, all our rooms are very clean and we work hard to keep the guesthouse spick and span. Together all of this plus our friendly welcome is what attracts the wonderfully cool guests who stay with us, many of whom extend their stay and come back time and time again. Wishing you all the best in your future travels.

I've read a few other not so stellar reviews of the Tofino Travellers Guesthouse on this site and see that the owners take these reviews very seriously, sometimes going so far as to attack the reviewer. For that reason, I've hesitated to write this, as I don't want to be subjected to an ad hominem attack for simply being honest. However, I would like to share my experience with other travelers so that they can consider all evidence when choosing their accommodations.

The plus side: This is a clean budget guesthouse that includes a hearty breakfast.

The negative side: I agree with some other (usually female) reviewers who have found interactions with Nick to be awkward and/or uncomfortable. When someone I just met comes in close to me and says "So what's your story?," I personally find that intrusive, not just someone being friendly. Nick also criticized me at breakfast for "not building a sense of community" because I got something for myself instead of asking someone else for it. As an adult, I don't appreciate someone trying to regulate my social interactions or telling me how to behave. I also noticed that he was often giving young female travelers relationship advice, which I thought was inappropriate, patronizing and rude. I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to other solo female travelers for this reason.

A few other things: as others have noted, the bunk rooms are close to the kitchen/eating area and when people are up late talking, this can be loud (bring earplugs); there are 2 shared shower stalls which tend to get sort of wet/hairy/sloppy if you use them after others have used them (although they were cleaned daily).

Dear UnaViajera71, We welcome all feedback and thank you for sharing details of your stay from August 2013. Thank you also for recognising that we offer our guests a clean, cheap and fun place to stay in the beautiful Tofino. As someone helping out here, one of the most rewarding aspects is the opportunity to get to know our guests and hear their stories. I’m sorry that you felt uncomfortable when Nick tried to find out more about you. I do wish you had said something at the time as it gives us the chance to respond in person and ensure that the rest of your stay was right for you. Wishing you all the best, Tofino Travellers Guesthouse

Unfortunately, within 2 hours of arrival I felt very uncomfortable as the owner was asking very personal questions & it felt like he was flirting with me. I found this unsettling (extremely creepy) & I would strongly recommend solo, female travellers to consider staying elsewhere.

It was a shame because the location of this guesthouse is good, views of the water are spectacular, kitchen is well equipped & wifi works well (but unavailable at night). The waffles for breakfast are a nice too.

I felt there was little privacy here. Partly due to my initial experience, but also the beds are connected in the room & so it felt like I was sharing a bed with 2 others. All areas are communal, there are no lockers (no where to secure valuables) & no locks on doors. There is one bathroom sink available for use by up to 14 people. The owner is always around & seemed to be a control freak.

The owner is aiming for a family atmosphere which is a lovely idea, but for me, I just felt like I was back on school camp again *groan*

Dear WAcatch, I am very sorry that you felt uncomfortable in the guesthouse. We pride ourselves on providing a communal, welcoming respite for travellers, be they travelling alone or with friends/family. I can also understand your anger at being asked to leave. This was not a request that we made lightly - it is a first for us - and I believed it was in your best interest. I hope that was clear by our actions: we refunded the nights you did not stay and arranged travel to another location. In response to your other comments: * As per the room descriptions, only double rooms are private. When we are not full, as when you stayed, guests can choose where they sleep * By being on site, we look after guest's belongings and make sure the environment is safe for all. We also offer locked storage if guests prefer * Unless guests are staying in rooms with private facilities, bathrooms are shared and our experience to date is that we rarely have queues Finally, as many guests attest to, our morning waffles are made with love. At Tofino Travellers Guesthouse we want to make each guest feel at home and enjoy their stay with us. I'm sorry that didn't happen for you. Wishing you the best, Tofino Travellers Guesthouse

it s an old hostel.. they closed it.. if you are here once, you can guess why.. the owner wasnt there, but an unkind german couple who stays there for free.. they are really overbearing.. no private area.. they are all time around.. the house is really dirty.. especially the kitchen.. the promised internet works only sometimes.. especilally in the evening it didn't.. at night never.. they try to sell trips all the time.. where they get some comission.. they made an awful breakfast with waffles.. every day the same.. made with margarine.. they not even use butter.. you have to clean your own dish.. everbody do it .. with cold water.. mostly without soap.. and than you have to use this plates again.. if you read the other reviews.. it was good the owner wasn't there.. it seems to be better for single women not to meet him.. totally not recommend to stay at this house.. this accomodation is really overpriced for what you get.. tons of reasons, why you should not stay at this place

To correct some of klaus mistruths: -We are not a hostel and never have been. We are a licensed Guesthouse. You are the guest and it is my house. -As in life you are required to take care of yourself. I don't clean up after you and I don't wash your dishes. -Sadly the german couple looking after him, left after seeing his reviews of them. -The internet is hooked up to a fiber optics cable into the house and runs as fast as your device can handle. (max G, N, AC speeds) -We don't profit from any trips or anything you do outside the guesthouse. We do care you get the best price for the trip you are taking. -We make homemade waffles every morning, with homemade (syrup, peanut butter, chocolate sauce etc) and other goodies -We are one of the lowest priced accommodation providers in Tofino and reviewed highly in all popular tourist guide books and websites - We clean the house everyday - The room he stayed in is brand new, everything is less then 2 months old.

We are a couple with two children who stayed here for three nights in August. We booked online in England and payed upfront by paypal(big mistake!). When we got there the owner Nick seemed to be confused about our booking, claiming he knew nothing about the children and that we had only booked for one night. This seemed to set us off on the wrong footing as we were not happy with the kids having to sleep on blow up beds. We discussed looking for other accomodation, however were unable to find somewhere without paying a fortune. We also liked the vibe of the place created by the other friendly travellers and partly by Nick who was helpful with tours etc. We told him on the second day that we would definitely be staying for the second two nights and he seemed fine. on the final morning, we told him our plans for the day at breakfast and discussed leaving the NEXT day for the ferry. After a truly perfect day on Chesterman beach, we arrived back only to find our email pinned to our door, it turned out we had payed for three nights and Nick telling us we had to get out as someone else had booked our room. I had heard him on the phone that morning discussing bookings so he had offered our room to someone without us having checked out with him! I had to pack up asap and find somewhere else with two tired and hungry kids.
I think he has a great thing going for young travellers but maybe not for families, there is also something slippery about him but on the whole he has a lot of good advice and the whale watching tour we booked through him was AMAZING. The place is clean and has nice decor and he provides great coffee.

We pride ourselves in providing a comfortable, home-like experience for travellers who want to come and experience Tofino. As it is a guesthouse, it is considerably more cozy and intimate than a hotel, and so it is important to have an understanding of this when booking. It was evident that you could not hide their disappointment and disdain for our place and clearly, it is not a suitable accommodation for loud, obnoxious children who are not able to respect others or their environment. We have plenty of guests with children and pets who are responsible, respectful, and enjoy their stay here. Despite this, we were prepared to honour your three-night booking with the understanding that accommodation needs to be booked very far ahead in Tofino and it was highly unlikely you would find something "suitable" for you at a moment's notice or at your price point. We further provided you with assistance you needed when you lost your rental car keys, needed to figure out how to use a long distance telephone card, suggest places you could take your children etc., etc. It is unfortunate that your stay was not as positive as our other guests experience; as we feel ours and our other guests' opinions about your stay here are not useful for the professional setting of this site. However, we will say that if there were a place for such personal references, we would have a lot to say about our negative experience of you too. We hope that you have a more positive stay in other places that perhaps are more "suitable" for you and your family.

In 8 years of running the Guesthouse, you get a cancer guest like Klaus from Berlin.... Read his reviews of other places for a more constructive review.... Go back into your hole Klaus. Jennifer the prices are all available by the Book Now tab. They change depending on the time of the year. If you don't find what you are looking for please just email the guesthouse and we would be happy to help you. Cheers, Nick
