I stayed for 5 nights in August on a personal retreat to rest and relax. I was in a suite in the in house that had a big kitchen and separate bedroom with walkout to a porch with the most amazing view. The entire suite as very clean and kitchen has all the dishes, pots and pans, stove, fridge with freezer, microwave etc. So you can choose to eat on or eat out. The owners are very nice and leave you alone. Which is greatly appreciated. It is very quick drive into tofino or any of the beaches on the west side. Or you can just chill and watch the tide slowly change to reveal the mud flats and all the bird activity. I was very lucky that there was another couple on the suite next to me. There are two suites in the house adjacent to each other on the ground floor. I am not sure how peaceful your stay would be if there are children in the other suite. But my stay was excellent we were all outside enjoying the evening in relivative silence just listening to birds calling and the water. The only suggestion would be a bbq for the suites as it is a shame to have to book your food indoors. The cottage in the woods
does have a bbq. Another bonus is the hottub in the woods. So peaceful under the trees with a peekaboo view of the water. There are canoes you can borrow as well.

Dear Traveltheworldz, Thank you for your kind review and for taking the time to provide us with your feedback and suggestions. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you appreciated our location. Ps. We typically book young children in our garden cottage (which is further away from the house in the old growth forest) to preserve the peace and quiet for the suites in the main house. Thank you and we hope to welcome you back in the near future Kind Regards, Juanette Red Crow Guest House

The Red Crow Guesthouse was a terrific find. We had stayed in Tofino at all different types of accommodations many times in years gone by and like most people, typically on the ‘ocean side’. Red Crow is located on the ‘other side’, facing what is called the Tofino mudflats. It’s a fascinating landscape; very calm, serene and beautiful. When the tide is low, it is easy to see the mudflats which attract all kinds of wildlife, particularly migratory birds. Take advantage of the canoes on site to have a lovely paddle during high tide. There is also a hot tub on the property tucked away in the forest—lovely way to wrap up an evening on the coast. Tofino is very close by, as are all the popular beaches. The accommodation itself is very lovely—rustic but super comfortable and with all the usual amenities. Highly recommended!

I came across this page quite by accident. However when I saw that there is yet to be a review of the Red Crow bed and breakfast, I had to respond!

We spent part of our honeymoon there in August of 2001. When you first drive up you feel as if you have stumbled upon a cottage treasure! the landscape and design are both charming and welcoming. It really felt like coming home after a long journey! Of course this is just your first impression, then it is on to the back of the house...

The rooms are at the back of the house with a most amazing view, it will take your breath away! What I loved most was that because we were on the sound it was always changing, the tides forever recreating the experience. I have a passion for photography, and would stumble out of bed at 5 a.m. just to see what new image I could capture! Definately an experience reserved for the true nature lover!

Lastly the hospitality was like nothing I have ever experienced! The breakfast was wonderful; hearty yet healthy and out-of-the-ordinary. The hosts are real people. They were friendly, accomodating, and spoil you rotten while never superficial or snooty.

I could go on, but I will stop now. All I can say is that I yearn to again drink my morning coffee while listening to the bald eagles speak among themselves, relaxing in an adirondack chair, and watching the changing sound. It really is a magical place.

This was the perfect quiet retreat that I needed. The host was very polite and helpful, he gave me my space which is what I needed. This is a place to come to rest. The hot tub was an oasis of tranquility nestled in a redwood forest with a view of the ocean. I appreciated not being disturbed by people coming and going. I have recommended The Red Crow to everyone and plan on returning myself in the near future.

We really enjoyed our 3-night stay at Red Crow's cottage.

Location - close to Tofino; 5 min drive/10-15 min walk via walk/bike lane; main house is water front while the cottage is a short walk from shore

Check in - great hosts; Stefan was very warm and helpful; received excellent recommendations on hiking trails; dinning and activities

Interior / decor - lovely stand alone cottage with charming decor; opens to a private garden with fire pit; spacious enough for 3-4 adults; plenty room and more for just two of us; got full use of the wood burning fireplace and fire pit on rainy chilly days

Amenities - shared outdoor spa overlooks the water; canoes/bikes available to use; wifi spotty at cottage but adequate signal around main house if needed; true water front property that's serene and tranquil for reading/meditation

Massage - hostess Juanette is an outstanding professional masseus who gives massage therapies on premise in a dedicated massage room overlooks the inlet; be sure to make an appt ahead of time!

Tips - Tofino Botanical garden is just 10 min walk from the house; it's small about 2km walk around the property but worth a visit on a nice day or a coffee break at Darwin Cafe inside the garden.

I highly recommend Red Crow for the location/views/privacy/hosts. It'll be my top lodging choice when I return to Tofino.

Following our recent stay at the Red Crow, we can only say that while it is not a bad place, it is not worth the price paid. At $170 CAD for the King Suite, one would expect at least breakfast (that was extra), a whirlpool or a TV. However, all these things were lacking. Instead, we got a large but otherwise very standard room. The views and hot tub were nice, however, we have stayed at other B&Bs (albeit not in Tofino) and received far more for our money. Not a bad place to stay by any stretch but not a 4 or 5 star place to stay either.

We loved our two days here, and since our daughter was with us as well, it was nice to have the separate bedroom for us, plus pull out sofa in the living room for her. We enjoyed the full kitchen and made breakfast in our room every day (breakfast was not provided for this room, but we didn't mind as we made what we wanted, when we wanted it).If we had been more energetic, we could certainly have made other meals too - everything needed was there. We didn't use the washer and dryer that were in the room, but I expect that might come in very handy. Room was spacious and spotless and we loved sitting (and sipping wine) at night on the private porch looking out at the bay area, plus seeing the sunrise in the morning from the windows in our room. Canoes were available so we went for a 2 hour canoe in the bay one morning which was wonderful and much easier than trying to rent equipment in town. Bicycles were also available to use for free. The hot tub is down a private path (you close the gate to signal to the next person that it is being used) and sitting in it and looking at the stars was lovely. Location is close to town and quiet. Out of curiosity, we went to the Wickaninnish Inn for lunch and to see what it was like. No question it is beautiful and in a beautiful location, but its much pricier than Red Crow and even apart from price, in many ways (e.g. private porch overlooking bay, room size, canoes) we felt the Red Crow was the better choice for us. Overall, this place was a highlight of our trip.

Just returned from 3 weeks in canada, including 5 nights at the redcrow (Sept 19-23). My advice is to book early for this gem, as there are only two rooms. The location is fantastic, on the Mears Island side rather than the rolling pacific, so calm waters, views of mountains and islands and dozens of different birds - including a bald eagle sitting in a tree opposite (bring your binoculars). Room was spacious and well equiped, felt like someones home rather than a hotel and breakfast is delivered every morning by the host. if you have an early morning start, as we did for an unforgettable bear watch, you can have continental left for you (including your own toaster). You have a veranda to sit and soak in the piece and quiet. The trip was rounded off by a visit from a bear and her two cubs in the grounds - exciting and a little scary for us Brits! We did check out a number of other resorts in Tofino and whilst they may have the ocean view, I doubt they could have as much individual character as Redcrow. Do check out the Pointe, Shelter and SOBO eating places - all wondeful (SOBO is right next door, closes early and is served from a camper van). Beware - Tofino can suck you in, and 5 days may not be enough!

My partner and I stayed 2 nights in Ucluelet and were treated EXTREMELY well. Having made previous reservations with the Red Crow we left "Ukee" with a heavy heart. I am SOOOOO glad we did!

From the time of my first phone call to the Red Crow, I knew I would be staying there. Ann, the owner, was sternly gracious as she stood her ground on our agreed upon rate, thwarting my devious attempts to save a buck. You see, I am in the restaurant/hospitality industry and think I should warrant an "industry" deal wherever I go. Ann, would have none of it! AS IT SHOULD BE!

We booked the "Garden Cottage" for only 2 nights. All be it mid week in the slow/"moderate" season. When we arrived, awestruck as we were, I realized, had I been more stern I may have worn her down. I am truly glad I didn't! Our stay was worth 10 times what we actually paid.

My partner and I were truly blessed on this trip. EVERYTHING, and I mean everything, worked to our advantage. We had UNSPEAKABLY GREAT weather from Sunday to Thursday. All our accommodations turned out to be exquisite! Anything we decided to do was open to us. When we hiked or walked a beach we were literally alone! This WAS the best couples vacation!

The Red Crow was integral to this. We booked the cottage... Oh my God! Quaint, Remote. Private. CLEAN....and I mean CLEAN! I am a stickler for this stuff! CLEAN beyond what you would expect from a privately owned and operated "guesthouse and cottage".

Though I was mildly disappointed we did not have the opportunity to meet the owner Ann herself, her long time employee and I am guessing friend Mylanie (sorry if my spelling is off) went all out to take care of us!

We are a gay couple. That, from the first phone call had NO impact on the service, respect and absolute professionalism we witnessed. We chose the Red Crow in part because of the free use of the bicylces and canoes. My partner has never canoed before. Upon arrival, Mylanie took it upon herself to inform us, as we are a little slow on the uptake when we have an idea in mind, of the tidal schedules, where to find water taxis for our other adventurous pursuits. Going so far as to call a contact that wasn't even listed. She directed us where to shop, whom to talk to, as well as the ins and outs of the property, which as it turned out, was completely ours (that sly business woman Ann,.. had I been more forceful..... oh never mind)!

The cottage was picturesque! The service beyond compare! The remote, private, outdoor (and I mean outdoor... A short walk on a boardwalk into the forest and you are in your own private tub in the middle of old growth cedars "private'! AWESOME!) hot tub. Our own garden, pick nick table, fire pit.....the list goes on!

Though my partner and I were on a "couples" vacation, we varied a few times from the "two of us" agenda. On our way from Ucluelet to Tofino we gave lift to a great girl going home to work. She pointed us in the direction of what turned out to be one of our best adventures. Sorry....I digress. My point here is this: We were on a couples vacation and literally had that all 4 days. On the last day, BECAUSE of the exceptional treatment from the Red Crow staff, we invited Mylanie and the girl working at the resort from Germany (also Ann) to dinner on our final night. I sincerely hope I am not causing trouble for them because they accepted as we wished. Mylanie later revealed that this invitation had been offered a few times in her previous 7 years of service but she had never accepted. To this my partner and I attached great honor and respect. Mylanie and Ann arrived with a great organic homegrown salad and a rice pilaf to compliment the bar b que salmon with dill butter and asparagus with summer squash that we had prepared. Without a doubt, this was the best dinner of our vacation. Great stories, awesome antidotes, poignant moments, heartfelt emotions. I...WE, will never forget our stay here!

The personal connection aside, I am in the restaurant/hospitality business. The ownership and the staff at the Red Crow "get" it! They are intuitive, empathetic, understanding, and ultimately willing to go the extra mile to please!

With a double thumbs up! With a 20 out of 10! With an above perfect score, I RECOMMEND the Red Crow! You would be remiss and shorting yourself to shell out at least twice, if not three times the amount to stay on the "west" side of Tofino with hundreds of other "lemmings" in a prefab, soulless, corporate resort.

Take the opportunity to experience true rest. True peacefulness. True relaxation. Experience the Red Crow! Benjamin and I did and will NEVER hesitate to recommend the choice!

Thank You SOO much Red Crow! Especially Mylanie and Ann!!!!!

We have just returned to England after a wonderful 4 day stay at the Red Crow. Being from Europe, we were amazed at the size of our suite (called the King) and the amenities. You can tell that the owner has been in the business for years (formerly from the Four Seasons) because they seemed to have thought of everything including bath robes, beach blankets, and even a deck of cards and cribbage board. One of the nicest amenities are the canoes which are available to anyone (check the tides !). We spent our last afternoon by paddling to a pristine island just offshore. We brought along a bottle of wine and a picnic and just basked in the glory of the 360 degree view. The Red Crow is a very special place and we will be back.
