We stayed here on the weekend of 17-19 January to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. It was everything we hoped for and more (I’ll get to that momentarily). Long Beach in January after a winter storm is magical and being able to be so close (a very short walk to the beach, less than 2 minutes) meant that we were able get out and enjoy ourselves just by walking out of our unit.

Speaking of the unit, it was very well appointed with a fully functional kitchen and everything you could need to prepare your own meals. The gas fire place was cosy and just sitting and looking at the beach was satisfying as well.

This was one of the first places we have been to in the world that actually means what it says when they ask if you want the towels to go to the laundry or not. Room service did not provide new towels every day because we did not ask for them. We were pleasantly surprised.

The only very minor detail which is a personal preference, is that the bed was slightly soft for us. Our preference is for a firmer mattress, but that is just us.

The “more” I referred to above was when we arrived back home I noticed my wedding ring was missing and I couldn’t find it at home. Using the very handy text messaging system that the resort set us up with on our arrival of the previous Friday, I texted them and asked if they could have another look in the room. A few hours later they phoned to say they had found it and could put it in registered mail to send back to me. Obviously very pleased about this.

We would heartily recommend this resort to anyone going to the Tofino area. The location is easy to find, the accommodations are excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful.
Two thumbs up 👍👍

Pacific Sands is well located on a surfing beach (Cox Bay). It is very family friendly, and they have put in great little details such as WARM outdoor rinse off/shower area which is soooo nice to have. They have BBQ's and out door gas powered "camp" fires in some common area which is super nice to sit around. Bed was super comfy, kitchen while small, had everything we needed to make simple meals. We stayed at the newer Oceanside Suites, which had nice modern decor inside. Don't know about the other buildings.

We have been returning to Pacific Sands with friends and family frequently since 1981. Lots of excellent memories. We were initially concerned when we heard there would be a change in ownership a few years back. But the renovations, upgrades and changes made by the new owners in the last few years are all excellent in our opinion.

The location is unbeatable, located directly on the best best beach in the Tofino area. We've stayed in many different rooms/suites over the years. This time we were lucky to secure the Cox Bay Suite, an ocean front hot tub studio suite on the third floor of the recently renovated Lodge building. The views from the balcony, hot tub, living room, and even just laying in bed, were incredible. Watching the waves, the surfers, the beach activity, etc was wonderful. Especially while sitting by the fireplace in our suite and looking out the huge picture window (we had some snow and and a few days of below freezing temperatures during our one week stay).

The California King bed was very comfortable. All the furniture, fixtures and equipment are in excellent condition. The hot tub was very clean and positioned perfectly to take best advantage of the ocean view during the day and the stars at night.

The suite was spotlessly clean on arrival. The handling of Covid protocols is top notch, including the excellent texting site they've set up to communicate instantly with the Guest Services for any questions or requests. Smart and effective.

The onsite Surfside Grill is excellent. We enjoyed a couple takeout meals and enjoyed them in our room and also around one of the many fire pits.

The rate discounts for extended stays and Storm Season are always what we look for.

We recommend Pacific Sands without hesitation and we can't wait to return.

We stayed here for our anniversary in a beachfront suite. You are definitely paying for the location, as the room itself is not “luxury”, but if it is important to you to be right on an amazing beach, than I’m sure the price would be worth it. We still found it to be quite expensive, even in the fall, but decided to splurge for our milestone anniversary.
It was very convenient to be able to walk a few steps out to the beach.

When we arrived, the room smelled horrible. At first we thought it was maybe some type of cleaning product they had used, so we kept the windows open, but when it didn’t dissipate, we realized the smell was actually a gas leak coming from the fireplace. Certainly a huge safety issue. To their credit, they had someone come fix it right away and there were no further issues. The texting service was convenient for any issues to minimize in-person contact.

The other issue was there was hair all over the shower curtain and a few strands on the shower wall as well. My husband ended up cleaning it off, but it certainly made us uneasy about the cleanliness in the rest of suite. During the pandemic, you would expect the cleanliness to be above and beyond, so this was worrisome. I did let them know of this issue through an online survey after our stay, and I was contacted with an apology and an offer to discount our stay “as a testament to our customer service”. However, that was over a month ago, and we still haven’t received any sort of refund so... 🤷‍♀️

They had a lot of kitchen supplies, but some things were not great quality. There was coffee supplied and cream in the fridge. There was no dishwasher in the suite, so you have to hand wash everything. I would certainly recommend washing everything before you use it as well, as there is no way of knowing how well the previous guests washed things or what they have touched. A good practice any time, but especially during COVID. The bedroom was in the back of the building, so you don’t get any beach view or sound of waves while in bed unfortunately.

All in all, we had just an okay stay. Which isn’t great when we were hoping to have an amazing time for our 10 year anniversary. It’s possible we would maybe try out one of the less expensive, more updated rooms in the future, but we wouldn’t be in a rush to stay again, especially during the pandemic due to the cleanliness problems.

Dear Stacey769, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with Pacific Sands. Again, I am extremely disappointed to hear that you had just "an okay time" at our property and that there were multiple issues throughout your stay with us. I can whole-heartedly assure you this is not the norm and that your experience was a one-off. You can see from this very Trip Advisor page that we are known for exceeding expectations and the cleanliness of our suites. I do sincerely apologize that this was your experience with us. It was myself who responded to your Guest Survey, and as I stated in my response there, the cleanliness of your unit upon arrival was unacceptable, and as such, I have gone ahead and refunded the last night of your three night stay with us. I do apologize again; it seems although the discount was applied, the refund was not processed. It has now been processed and will show up on your statement within the next two business days. I do truly hope this shows our concern and our attempt to rectify the situation. Again, I do sincerely apologize for the multiple hiccups you encountered during your stay with us. As I had responded in the Guest Survey, please feel free to reach out to me directly at markus@pacificsands.com should you wish to discuss any further questions or concerns. I would also love the opportunity to get you back to Pacific Sands to show you that the above is not an accurate representation of the Pacific Sands experience. My hope would be that if you were to give us another chance, we would go out of our way to offer you a flawless stay that exceeds all your expectations. Thank you! Sincerely, Markus McRurie Guest Relations & Marketing Manager

A beautiful resort in a stunning location. The resort staff worked really hard to keep guests safe from COVID with enhanced cleaning and gave us a call when it was our turn to check in so as to minimize the number of people in reception. Our suite was spotless and had everything we needed for our stay. The Surfside grill was very much appreciated, as we were able to order hot food to take back to our room without having to drive into town (their fries are amazing). The resort and surrounding area is so wide open there were no worries about physical distancing and masks, so we were able to go about our day as if life was back to “normal” again. A wonderful stay, we can hardly wait to go back.

We had the pleasure of staying at Pacific Sands in one of the signature beach houses (Pacific Sands Beach House) for 3 nights. The accommodation was very clean on arrival and was perfect for our family with plenty of space in the sleeping and living areas. Every detail was so well thought out, from the local bath & kitchen products to the laundry soap provided in the laundry room. Guest services was exceptional with providing additional items as needed, all via text messaging. The on-site fire tables were great for s’mores and the food and beverages at the Surfside grill were a fabulous addition to the resort. We also took advantage of surfboard rentals and, having this onsite through Surf Sisters, was so convenient. This was a fabulous family vacation experience and we will definitely stay again. Thank you to all of the staff at Pacific Sands for making this such a great experience!

I came here with my son, bubble of two, for a week over Christmas. We loved it.

We stayed in the new section, called ocean-side suites. The other units look considerably older, but perhaps they are updated inside. Ours seemed brand new.

Check-in was flawless, and there are lots of electric vehicle charging stations onsite. We were able to pull up to an unloading area close to our room, lots of luggage carts kept there, and then when you're done you go park elsewhere (it's not that far away). Storage for boards, hooks outside your room for wetsuits and lots of outdoor showers.

The beach is breathtakingly beautiful. Lots of tables and firepits and benches around the property to sit and enjoy the view.

Our room was modern, clean and had a surprisingly efficient little kitchen for it's small size. The mattress in the bedroom was high quality, as were all the linens and towels. Big tub of hand sanitizer at your front door, and individual thermostats for different rooms. A broom for all the sand you will inevitably bring in, and two rain jackets provided for your use. Creamo in the fridge for your coffee (thank you!). While there are lots of outdoor recycling stations, there are no recycling receptacles in the room, so kind of messy for us to just pile it up in the hallway between trips.

There is no onsite restaurant, but the one next door at Long Beach Lodge is excellent. Reservations required. They also have a good happy hour.

We took lessons at Surf Sister, and in fact selected this hotel because they are onsite. I didn't realize that our lesson wouldn't actually be on the hotel beach, because of conditions, so we actually had to drive to our lessons at Chesterman Beach. Great instructors and we had fun.

I saw a lot of housekeeping staff turning over rooms between guests, not wearing masks. This might be important to you, it might not.

There is a huge DVD selection in the lobby, and DVD players in the rooms. Loved this feature :) The staff were all super cheerful and helpful, and they managed covid protocols in the lobby with finesse. Also looked like complimentary coffee and hot chocolate in reception.

Good sound proofing, we did not hear our neighbours at all.

I would definitely stay here again.

Dear Anonymouse, Thank you for sharing your recent experience with Pacific Sands. Yes, it does sound like you stayed in our most recent accommodation addition, the Oceanside Suites. They have been well-received and are very clean and modern. The other unit types on our property have all been fully renovated within the last three years, and I have no doubt you would have also enjoyed staying in them. In regards to a restaurant, while we do not have a full-scale sitdown restaurant, we do have the delicious Surfside Grill, which offers casual-fare takeaway for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and took advantage of all the extra onsite amenities. Thank you for the great feedback, and we do hope to see you again soon. This was my fourth visit to Pacific Sands and we will be back. You can’t beat the location and each time we return there are more great amenities to enjoy. There is one note I feel I should mention as it definitely had a big impact on our enjoyment of our accommodations on this trip. In fact, if it was my only experience, I likely would hesitate to come back. This time we stayed in a pet-friendly, one bedroom beachfront suite as admittedly it was the only unit left that met our needs for a last minute booking. There is very little soundproofing in these units and you can hear each footstep above, major noise transference from the shared bedroom wall and the plumbing is very loud (not a big deal during the day). It likely greatly depends who your neighbors are but your sleep is definitely at the mercy of those above and beside you. And depending on which unit you are located in, the traffic up and down the outside stairs to the second floor and into the parking lot which is right outside your door (and bedroom window) may also be a consideration. Ear plugs were a necessity for us. If you are sensitive to noise, I would recommend attempting a 2nd floor unit or trying another building.

Dear Schteiny, Thank you for sharing your recent experience with Pacific Sands. I wanted to start by apologizing that your most recent stay was interrupted by some noisy neighbours and that this ultimately led to you not having an enjoyable experience this time around. I do want to stress that this is not the norm nor reflective of our high standards that we are so widely known for. I did want to take the time to address your above concern personally. Regarding the soundproofing, the One Bedroom Beachfront Suites were fully renovated within the last three years, and part of this upgrade was soundproofing. Since the renovations, we have received very few noise complaints, even with the building being fully booked the majority of the time. This leads me to believe that in your specific situation, it does appear you, unfortunately, had abnormally loud guests above you. We do take noise complaints very seriously, and had this situation been brought to Guest Services' attention, we would have done our due diligence to make sure this situation was resolved. However, I do apologize again that this was your experience with us. I do agree, second-floor units do tend to offer more privacy and come with the benefit of having no one above you. A request such as this can be asked for at the time of booking. Overall, I never like to hear of any guests having to deal with an experience such as this. We have always prided ourselves on offering all of our guests rejuvenating and relaxing stays, as that's what vacationing is all about. I do apologize that this was not your experience with us. Please feel free to reach out directly to me at markus@pacificsands.com should you wish to discuss any further questions or concerns. I hope that should you return to Pacific Sands; we would go above and beyond to offer you a flawless experience. Thank you! Sincerely, Markus McRurie Guest Relations & Marketing Manager

This was our third New Year's in a row at Pacific Sands. The location on the beach is outstanding and it is only a short drive into Tofino. We enjoyed the fireworks on New Year's Eve. The suite was well equipped and while we ate most of our meals in, we enjoyed dining out in Tofino. No trip to Tofino would be complete without fresh crab. We bought two from the crab lady and cooked them in the suite with a special pot provided at the front desk.

I had seen this place on Instagram and it looked so amazing I asked my boyfriend to book it to celebrate my birthday.

I was disappointed because the room we received was nothing like what I saw on Instagram and it turns out this property has 3 different types of rooms. I would have rather waited and came when I could have the type of room they advertise on Instagram with the Tofino feel of woods, ocean and relaxation. Instead what we got was a clean room that felt more like we were staying in a cookie cutter storage container with no warmth, no robes, no woods, no ocean. We were essentially staring into our neighbours messy yard. This wasn’t the feel I was looking for. Also, if you have the bedroom blinds open, anyone walking by can see right into your room. There is zero privacy.

The service was good. My expectations were just not met because the property advertises something I did not receive. I suggest Pacific Sands advertise all of their different rooms to prevent disappointment after travelling for 10 hours to get there. Also, it’s not like we got a deal for this room. It was still really expensive and not worth it in my opinion. I’d rather book ahead an a stay at the Wik for these prices.

Dear Meeggs, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with Pacific Sands. I wanted to start by sincerely apologizing that your stay with us did not exceed your expectations. As you can clearly see from this very TripAdvisor Page, this is not the norm, as we are widely known for exceeding all of our guest's expectations. Therefore, I did want to take the time to address your above concerns personally. In regards to the room type, I find this comment extremely unfair. Yes, we use Instagram to help promote our property and send people to our website, as many brands and hotels do. However, from what you've stated above, it sounds no one took the time to visit our website or to do any further research. We have 14 different room types in total on our property. Due to this fact, we've spent many resources equipping our website with the necessary tools for guests to find the ideal room they want. Our website has virtual room tours, multiple photos, videos, and floor plans of every single room type, including the views from each style. Had our reservations team be contacted or asked about any of our different accommodations on the property, we would have happily gone over all of the above details and made sure you were well aware of the room type you were booking. We do also advertise all room types on our Instagram Page, under the highlight tab that states "Room Types" or the second tab that states "Room Tour Videos." Now, it does look like you booked into and stayed in one of our One Bedroom Oceanside Suites. These are the entry-level units on the property, and are sold and marketed as having a 'Partial Ocean View.' In regards to Robes, these are currently available on request at any time from Guest Services, as we currently can't stock them in the rooms due to COVID-19. Furthermore, we are surrounded by coastal rainforest and are mere steps away from the Pacific Ocean; therefore, I am still slightly confused by the above comments. Regardless of the above, I am disappointed to hear you were not pleased with the One Bedroom Suite, as this is never the experience we would want any of our guests to have, specifically on their birthday. I do apologize again for this. Please feel free to reach out to markus@pacificsands.com, and we can make sure we take care of this situation for you. My hope would be that should you return to Pacific Sands; we would offer you a flawless stay that exceeds all your expectations. Thank you! Sincerely, Markus McRurie Guest Relations & Marketing Manager

How far are you from Vancouver airport? What is the best way to get to you from the airport?

Hi Andrew, we are actually located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. If you arrive at the Vancouver Airport (YVR), there are a few options to get to us. Most guests will rent a vehicle and then drive to the ferry terminal Horseshoe Bay. From there, it's a 2-hour ferry to Nanaimo, which is located on Vancouver Island. Once on the island, we are a 3-hour drive from Nanaimo. The other option is once you've landed at the Vancouver Airport, you can do another short flight from the South Terminal to the Tofino Airport. It is about a 45-minute flight, and once at the Tofino airport, we are a 10-minute shuttle drive away. I hope this answers your questions; please visit our website, as we have a ton of information on "getting here." Thank you! Sincerely, Markus McRurie Guest Relations & Marketing Manager

Dear Mrech, Thanks for the question. The Beachfront Suites do consist of two floors, a ground-floor that you can walk right out to the beach from, and a second-floor accessed by outside stairs. You can request a floor preference when booking. The Beachfront Suites do offer some of the best views on the entire property, as they are steps away from the sand. You can be inside the suites and watch the waves roll right in. I hope that answers your question! Sincerely, Markus McRurie Guest Relations & Marketing Manager

"There was some confusion during booking as we thought we had reserved an oceanfront room, but it turned out to be oceanside. It's essential to confirm your room. "
