The MAQ is centrally located in Tofino so if you're that person not driving through Vancouver Island, it's very handy and close to everything. The rooms are modern, very clean and comfortable. But they are small and it's just the bed and 2 plastic chairs (really not designed for sitting). The hotel has a cafe/common area where you can sit and the views are out of this world. The cafe is open at 7:30am for your morning cuppa which is very nice. The staff are very friendly and all backpackers, just like all other service staff in Tofino during summer. If you stay at the MAQ, ask for a room on the street side. The inside rooms are direct on the courtyard of the restaurant and you will not be able to get to sleep before 10pm when they turn the (pretty awful) music off in the courtyard. If you can live with that, you'll have a good time. Just don't stay too long in Tofino if you don't have transport as there's very little (nothing) to do besides the wildlife tours. Try booking all tours in 1 or 2 days and then move on. The views are awesome but there's very little spots where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or a beer and comfortably enjoy the views. The MAQ is probably the only spot within walking distance which offers coffee and a view in a comfortable chair.

The atmosphere at the MAQ is so unique and vibey. What other hotel offers live music, an outdoor beer garden, on site restaurant, oyster bar, and downstairs club/liquor store?! The rooms are super cute and quaint with everything you could need. The MAQ has the vibe of a hostel but the esthetics of a fancy hotel. We highly recommend staying here or at the very least coming for a patio cocktail when you are in Tofino.
My husband and I got married in Tofino on September 4/22 and our wedding guests were hosted by the MAQ. We were blown away by how welcoming and accommodating every single staff member was! We personally stayed there for two nights, and most of our guests stayed for three. We held a private pre-wedding meet and greet in the bear café/biergarten. Our guests made sure to tell us that the location, food and beverages, and service was some of the best they’ve ever had.
To all the staff at the MAQ, thank you for all your help to ensure our wedding was perfect and our guests were well looked after! You went above and beyond to help us with all our little requests. This included placing gifts in every room, delivering supplies to other hotels our guests were staying at, loaning corkscrews, and printing off our vows when we had forgotten to! Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts. We will for sure see you again and will forever recommend the MAQ.

A lovely modern hotel right by the harbour on Main Street. It was right next to the bus stop which was brilliant for us as we had 5 bags/cases so not far to walk (20 seconds). This bus stop also served the free shuttle bus to all the beaches which we used several times. We were a bit early for check in but our room was ready so they let us in, with a complimentary glass of fizz too, nice touch. The room was very modern and clean. We were on a ground floor room so the view was of the street. It says on their website that it was a 'lively' hotel and that they even offer free ear plugs, but honestly there was no noise at all really, certainly not party noise. The whole town seemed to shut down at 10pm anyway! We used the adjoining bear bierhouse a couple of times, just for drinks. It was busy with a wedding party (we think) but we got served no problem (though again, the hotel bar shut down at 10pm on the Sunday night. Seemed early but we weren't bothered. By contrast, the pub underneath the hotel - which I assume is part of the hotel - only opened after 9pm. Nice bright, modern cafe where we ate a breakfast roll on our last morning. Free wifi. Easily walkable of all the main sites in and around town - for instance it only took us 13 minutes to walk to the dock for our whale and bear trips. All good.

I had booked this stay way back in March 2020 and wasn’t able to go due to Covid until this august in 2021. When I booked the hotel was still under quite the renovation and because of that my room rate was significantly cheaper! I was able to keep rebooking times to come & the hotel never up-charged to the new rates for the stay when we could finally make it. That being said, our room was on the base level adjacent to the new beer garden patio they have. Although a great feature for the hotel, a very bad choice to have the rooms on the same level & looking straight out onto people eating at their tables just feet away. We had to have our blinds & windows closed the whole time for privacy & sound proofing which was also very difficult in the summer heat since the hotel doesn’t have AC. Luckily my boyfriend brought an extra fan from home but it was still super hot in the room, much hotter than the outside temperature which was strange. The room was also extremely basic, a tiny tv we didn’t see a purpose for since there were no streaming platforms, a single plastic chair & a dresser we didn’t use. We would have really appreciated a small table & mini fridge as there was no where to keep leftovers from the amazing restaurants in town & no where to keep drinks or water cold either. They do offer free bags of ice from the liquor store below but with no ice bucket or anything so ours leaked literally everywhere and didn’t keep our drinks cold at all because there was no where to store anything. cleaning up all the melted ice puddles was rough cause they give you very minimal towels… so all in all it was basically like booking a private room at a hostel. Bathroom was cute & tiny so no complaints there, basic but functional. Onto the good stuff! Free parking & there was always a spot available even in peak summer, 10+ points for that! Walking distance to everything in town. Beer & third wave cafe on site, really great bonus (even though we didn’t try either) they looked great though. The place is decorated so trendy & funky in all the common areas, which is why it gave me Aussie hostel vibes, the common areas were very similar & the staff was quite similar to that of hostel staff as well (friendly & easy going). Their texting service is also great, need any question answered? Text them! So chill & easy and there were some really fast responses. Takeaways: needs AC, mini fridges & tables in rooms, more towels. No rooms by the bar it’s just so awkward.

Wonderful boutique hotel located in downtown Tofino. The property has very nice updated rooms and a fantastic restaurant and bistro for breakfast. They make an awesome latte. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to assist guests. We required some fresh towels one evening and one of the staff drove from home to assist us as housekeepeing staff were unavailable until the morning. Definitely recommend the Maq.

Lovely hotel with stunning views and sunsets. We were luck to have a suite…. We must have been upgraded ….and the room didn’t disappoint. The views out the room were spectular especially at sunset. !! Bedroom with tv room seperate and a nice bathroom. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room meaning that you had your buy them at the coffee shop or restaurant which we found wasn’t always open and for a time neither were open.

Hello, Thank you fro taking the time to leave us a review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your room and the view! As for our coffee and tea facilities, we try to offer our guests as much as possible. Unfortunately, the building is very old and lacks the voltage to supply a coffee maker in everyroom. Our Cafe is open from 7:30am-2:30pm, daily, and our restaurant opens at 3:00pm. We appreciate your feedback! Guest Services

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at The Maq! The room had everything necessary for our stay and was super comfortable (also the cooler provided in the room works exceptionally well for all your chilling needs). The service was great and the staff was kind and friendly. The Bear Biergarten was a particular favourite of ours, with delicious food and an excellent selection of German beer. The Maq’s location in the middle of town couldn’t have made our stay any easier for us, we didn’t have to worry about parking in town because everything was in comfortable waking distance as we explored the delightful town. Thank you to The Maq Crew for doing what you do, we had a blast!

Our room (101) was small, no air conditioning, and you could hear street noise. Did this affect our satisfaction? No. They are very upfront about the noise levels (especially if near the pub) and provide a white noise machine and ear plugs... but we didn't need them. Tofino is very laid back, and even tho you can hear people from 101 its not disruptive and quiets down completely quite early. They provided a fan, and the cool ocean air came thru the screen window. The bed was so comfortable, and the room decor was on point, clean and updated. No fridge, but cooler and free ice. Location is awesome, the pizza moto across the street is 10/10. The hotels pub is the only one open till 1, if you like to stay up later. Coffee/bakery on site was perfect, customer service excellent. Can't say enough good things! They keep in touch with you via text after hours, and can be reached any time via text if you need anything as the front desk closes in the evening. It's very laid back, as you'd except in this town. Price point was fair for the high season/location and amenities. Would definitely stay again! Can't wait to come back ❤️

Newly renovated which is nice. The rooms are cute. Great location in comparison to other Tofino hotels. The noise is not bad, they really prep you on the noise level so you are expecting it when you arrive. We stayed on the second floor and it wasn’t bad I could only hear music till 10 from the Beer Garden. They also provide a sound machine for white noise and give the option of ear plugs. The hallways are noisy and rooms, you can hear people knocking and stomping (the ones oblivious to the noise they are creating). I like the cafe they have freshly baked pastries in the morning with nice coffee. There are no coffee machines in room. My room wasn’t as clean as it should be as there was hair in the bathroom which was gross sand the wifi didn’t work at first but they helped me via text which was convenient. Overall likely wouldn’t stay again but was good for this trip :)

I really liked The Maq. Great location, friendly/responsive staff, clean rooms, great WiFi, pet friendly and parking. That being said, The Maq is not for everyone. If you need air conditioning, in room fridge/coffee, or have difficulty with stairs, you may want to read the reviews before making your decision. Personally, I really enjoyed our stay, as did our dog. My spouse, not as much. Recommended with reservations.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review ! We're glad you appreciated and friendly and responsive employees. We do take pride in our cleaning standard and are happy it hasn't be left unnoticed. As per the air conditionning, Tofino never tends to get too warm and very few if not no hotel has AC. Although, all of our rooms are equipped with fans and we are more than happy to provide with extra should our guests need it :) We're glad you had a nice stay overall and we hope to see you again soon !
