We know the Coast Capri Hotels from Kelowna and Revelstoke. They are nice, clean modern places to stay over and you can rely on their quality of service.
In the photos of this location you see the side of the building with windows overlooking the harbour and railing for balconies.
Well, there is a bit of a view of the water, and the balcony is tiny - space for two to have a smoke if that is your thing.
The rooms a fine. Spacious, clean and modern with wifi. The restaurant was open for breakfast but closed for dinner, a Covid restriction. Understandable but a pity. Plenty of eateries close by though some are seasonal and close Sept 30th which we discovered arriving Oct 3rd....
Parking is round the back in a parkade. We had a bit of a time discovering it and finding our way back to the reception - glad it wasn’t raining and we could manage our luggage. Once registered they figured out payment and hubby went to place the ticket on the car and found an easier way back! There is free street parking if you are there at the weekend but we paid the $9 rather than have to drive around and find somewhere else.
Modern enough but the sound proofing between rooms isn’t the best. They really shouldn’t put headboards against the shared walls.....
There was a lot of people checking in from the ferry so reception was overwhelmed. They have a package deal with the ferry for accommodation and whilst we had made our booking independently there were two large groups checking in for their different reasons, a film crew, and a conference gathering, all at the same time.
I would keep that in mind if we came this way again, and perhaps make sure we don’t check-in right as the ferry arrives!

Thank you for the great feedback and for reminding readers that Ferry traffic can be overwhelming at times. A year ago, the traffic was split between the ferry and the planes, today its primarily ferry.

My husband and I stayed here with our dog for 3 nights. Upon check-in, the receptionist was helpful and friendly. For all 3 nights, the hotel was noticeably quiet. We also stayed Wednesday-Saturday. Our room was clean and I appreciated the note from the housekeeper assuring us what specific, commonly touched items were sanitized. The fridge didn't really keep our food cold and there were crumbs along the handle (although I got shivers from the crumbs, I tried not to let it bother me too much; the housekeepers may be too focused on sanitizing the other things to notice the fridge). There were also stains on the couches that made me feel icky. I'm sure it was just old stains and didn't affect the overall cleanliness of the suite. The fridge and the stains are my only complaints.

We needed a break but didn't want to leave Vancouver Island due to covid restrictions so when the Coast Hotels offered a two nights for the price of one, we quickly booked the Coast Bastion Hotel in Nanaimo. We really like staying at the Coast Hotels because they are pet friendly (we have a dog) and generally lovely hotels. The Coast Bastion is in downtown Nanaimo so very convenient. The only negative being having to pay for parking.

We were given a large corner room overlooking the harbour. It was clean and we felt the hotel was working hard to maintain good covid practices. The central location meant we could walk our dog along the waterfront and we had access to multiple restaurants which almost all offered takeout options. With our spacious room and its great view, we were happy to eat our meals in our room. Comfortable and relaxing for us and for the dog. Just what we wanted for our getaway.

A week or so before our scheduled stay we received an email telling us there were water issues and that the guest rooms on the day we were arriving would not have water between 10 am and 6 pm. Since we wouldn’t be arriving until almost 6, this seemed fine. When we arrived we were told that the water would be out until 8 pm (no apology or concern shown). They did offer us 2 small bottles of water. We said fine and went to our room (after stopping to use the washroom in the lobby). Around 8:15 we tried the water and it was still not working. I called and was told it would be on by 9. I mentioned not only not being able to take a shower, but also having to go down 14 floors to use the toilet. They (Ian) were surprised and said that they hadn’t thought of that; that the toilets wouldn’t be working correctly when the water was out. They again offered a couple of bottles of water (we declined). I asked if there could be some kind of discount, and they said that they could give me the room for the price of the least expensive room; just do an upgrade. I said ok. At 9:15 when the water still wasn’t back on I called again and was told it would be in at 9:30. Really?? Ian said he could book me into a room across the street if I wanted to move. I didn’t ask what I’d be charged for that. I told him I’d like a refund; if I’d have known I couldn’t take a shower or use the toilet I would have booked another hotel myself. He finally said if it would make me happy, he would comp the room. I told him yes. We then went back to the lobby to brush our teeth and use the wash room. My husband did ask for another bottle of water then. At that point my husband overheard a call from the plumber to Ian, where it was clear they didn’t know when it would be finished. But Ian then suggested my husband leave the tap on, so we’d hear when the water came on, and it would clear air in the pipes. But Ian also reassured my husband the water should be on shortly.
I think if we would have heard any apology or if they would have offered to discount or comp the room without my having to beg and point out the inconvenience (and without being snarky about it), we would not have felt so bad. But there was absolutely no recognition that this was a problem. The water came back on at 1:30 am btw.
The room itself was fine. The bed was comfortable. When we finally took a shower in the morning there wasn't a lot of water pressure, though there was plenty of it in the sink in the bathroom.

I am very sorry at the experience you had, what occurred was completely unacceptable. I fully agree that our performance was lacking. While none of this makes up for the service you were given, I should explain what occurred. There was a complete failure of the domestic water system when the new main system was connected to the guest room water pipes. The leaks that sprung up everywhere caused the plumbers to shut down until the major items were repaired. Could have we handled it better, yes. In reality, if the plumbers would have outlined the potential risks, we should not have allowed guests to stay in the hotel when the change over was happening. We are meeting with the plumbers to ensure w fully understand the risks of the future phases of the project.

The location is great however the level of attention to detail conflicts with the price.
Room was not attended to in three days no replenishing of items such as coffee etc.
When I tried to rebook as the location is great they could not guaranty the harbor view and the price was escalated quite a bit.

We had an excellent midweek overnight stay at Coast Bastion. We had a reservation and checked in about 530pm. The reception staff member, (Serina, I believe?) who assisted us was friendly, efficient and helpful. She seamlessly covered the needed paperwork from parking to pets (we brought our dog) to breakfast vouchers, provided a great cheatsheet of local restaurant options, gave good directions for navigating the complex, and made sure to suggest we visit social media and let others know if we enjoyed our stay as an assist to other travelers. She has good, effective communication and customer service skills. The two other staff people present were also friendly and professional, engaging my wife in conversation and ensuring she too felt welcomed. For the few minutes we were in the lobby we were made to feel that we were the team's focus and that our comfort was their priority. It was very well done.
The hotel's Covid precautions were evident without being overbearing. We appreciated that the staff members were all masked, the proper signage was in place, plexiglas shielding and hand sanitizers were provided - all the right steps were covered. I ventured downstairs late that night and early in the morning to walk our dog: the staff member alone behind the counter in the empty lobby each time mindfully made sure to 'mask-up' by the time I got even to the hallway entrance to the lobby, even though I was not approaching the counter. Impressive.
We had a similar good experience in the Minnoz Restaurant for breakfast on Thursday morning Mar 11th. The lone staff member on duty did an Excellent friendly job handling All the floor functions for us and several other patrons, from greeting to seating to order taking and serving, checking back, refills, banter and billing with efficient, friendly briskness and not once letting on that she was running solo. It was really impressive. And kudos to the kitchen, as our breakfasts were Excellent.
We were very pleased with our room, # 1011. The view of Nanaimo waterfront is breathtaking, and changes steadily with the lighting. Our room had a small but functional balcony complementing the large view windows.. The curtains and accessories were set for a best first impression and the temperature just right. The room was nicely and comfortably appointed and very clean. The bed was sharply made, the bathroom fully stocked. Even the terrycloth robes in the closet were straight and smartly hung.
We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Nanaimo. We normally travel frequently, but because of Covid this was our first overnight stay away from home in many months. Coast Bastion's location, staff and attention to detail made it a great escape.

A nice hotel in a great location - walk to anything! Super-clean room, very friendly staff. Mini fridge and coffee maker in-room, bathrobes available. Nice view of the waterfront. There is parking for $9 overnight in an attached city parkade. They have a room to store your bikes, kayaks etc so you don't have to leave stuff in/on your vehicle.

The rooms are average but some extra attention to details could be made. The inner lining of the shower curtain was broken in multiple locations which allowed water to go outside of the tub when showering. The room door/walls/windows didn't keep the noise out of the room at night and noises could be heard clearly from the street as well as people walking and talking in the corridor. Although there was water from a container available in the main lobby, I would have expected some bottled water in the room instead of having to use the bathroom sink to get water to make coffee and drink. Parking at the hotel was confusing as the signage isn't clear. I just happened to stumble upon it when I entered the city parking structure adjacent to the hotel. I tried the restaurant at the hotel for breakfast and was not impressed with the crab cakes as they were loaded with shells and had a lot of lemon juice which overpowered the taste of everything else. Otherwise, the beds are comfortable and the air conditioning worked as expected.

I am sorry that you did not have an ideal stay. I would note that we are working through a renovation that includes noise cancelling technology. This is a challenge that many face and we are working on a solution. With the crab cakes, as I mentioned in reply to your survey, the crab is fresh from a local vendor and we simply should not have accepted shell filled crab. This is being addressed. The one item that I wanted to make note of was bottled water. We are desperately trying to reduce and or eliminate plastic water bottles in the hotel. Our lobby water is to push us further in that direction.

The hotel is centrally located, and the staff are very helpful. You can view the harbor from each room, but I would recommend go with the odd-number-rooms.
The fridge is a bit old and hard to open the door, but other facilities are pretty organized and handy.
The washroom is bright and tidy. And the bathtub is low so it's easy to step inside the tub without "climbing into" it.

When you say, "FULL SIZE" does that mean raised up or with a cab on the back? Regular pick up trucks fit in the parking garage. If the truck is over height we have an over height lot 2 blocks away. And we are pet friendly, just let the desk know when you check in and they can set you up. I hope this helped.

I wouldn't consider the parking to be secure. Apparently there are regular visits by someone but the parking area is open to the public. I wouldn't recommend parking there with bicycles or anything else external to my car or truck.
