Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

I'm happy to hear the history of the Astoria hotel and I appreciate that its kept within the family/local. First off: The staff were professional, it was clean, and its in a great location with free lot parking across the road. However, please meet guests halfway especially for the price of peak season. The carpets and beds are in need of replacement. There is no elevator so luggage needs to be carried up one flight of stairs. The scent (possibly from smoking back in the day) gave me a headache. The bathrooms need revamping my boyfriend barely fit under the shower head while crouching down. I believe this hotel could be great with some improvements!! The location, customer service, parking and cleanliness is already there! I hate leaving reviews like this, but I bet you guys could be a top hitting hotel if you just made some improvements. Leaving things like the traditional phone, check in booth etc. can still keep the history of the hotel alive.

We didn't stay at this location but I just want to give mention to the front desk staff as my Aunt had passed away and I required documents to be signed as I am executor to her will and was eight hours away from home. The girl at the front desk was more than willing to help. I so appreciated her help at this difficult time. As well we went next door to their pub and food/service was great!

We've stayed at this hotel several times over the years and it is always a good experience.
The staff are wonderfully friendly and the location can't be beaten for convenience to the town.
The plug-in air conditioning units are loud (luckily white noise helps my kiddo sleep so it was great for us!). We had a problem with our toilet cistern and mentioned it to the desk as we were leaving for the day, hubby forgot something in the room and when he got there someone was already fixing the issue! Absolutely fantastic!
Breakfast in Papa George's is always good, and we had a couple of drinks in the bar in the evening which was (as always) great

The hotel is authentic with all the character of a 100 yr hotel but with modern conveniences. We had an amazing view of the mountains. It's right downtown so we could walk everywhere easily. The price is affordable with free parking. The bed was comfortable with a large TV and all the latest streaming apps. The bathroom is small but the shower had lots of pressure and hotwater. We enjoyed our stay there and would definitely stay again.

This hotel is Not a boutique hotel but an old hotel with very small rooms, crappy views , small bathroom and horrible beds. Very thin walls, with electronic beepers every time some one leaves their door open. Lots of slamming of doors. If you do manage to fall asleep on the so called king bed made up of 2 twin beds of different texture and pillows that seem to be from the dollar store, then you are quickly woken up from the noise. The towels are old and ratty and very rough. This was a waste of money for a one night trip for a couple that saved a long time to pay the expense.

Stayed the night at Astoria Hotel on a getaway to the mountains. Jasper was great and so quiet which was a once in a lifetime experience in summer to not be bombarded with tourist but the hotel was less than relaxing. It had some 1980 crappy loud plug in air conditioner that didn’t cool the room down very much so we used the little desk fan to help it at least get some airflow. Had to have the window open because it was so warm but the 100 trains that came and went from the early hours of the morning was less than relaxing. I would have been horrified if we had to pay the regular price (got 30%)

The worst experience I have ever had on a holiday, checked in yesterday 10th July to a broken sink, reported straight away told no maintenance until tomorrow, got up the next morning to broken shower bursting all over, went to reception requested room change, told no by the inexperienced receptionist, asked for manager told no to that, told maintenance man start's at 9am, wrapped towels round shower head so we could shower, went out to come back to make shift shower repair and no sink repair, totally diabolic, never again this is the pits over $1000 for 3 nights, the TV doesn't even work!!! You have to some how connect it to your phone???? No idea how this works so we sat in silence reading at night.

An old character establishment. Just the sort of place I usually like but we made to wait until 4pm for check in. Not appreciated when we arrived at 11am tired after a long trip. We were also told our second night was not paid for which was not true. Also told $200 would be charged to our credit card, against damages. Someone was painting the stairway wall and had tools on the guest chairs. So, all in all not a very good start. The room was clean but modest. On the plus side this hotel does have a generator and its own restaurant and bar, and as there was a concern that the whole town might lose power (due to nearby wild fires) this was great. Restaurant staff and food was fine.

Stayed for two weeks at the Astoria while working at Marmot Basin, teaching skiing to a great group of visitors from the UK. Hotel was very comfortable with shuttle bus service to and from the Marmot Basin area. Very convenient location, close to shops and a restaraunt, Papa Geoges, located on the main floor. The Ded Dog Bar also located on the main floor and I ate every evening meal there. The menu was very good with a wide range of options. My favourites were Sheppards Pie, Tatonka Burger, Bison Chili, Pub Burger, but had many more choices and I had too many to mention. Enjoyed them all. Great pub food there! I highly recommend this hotel.

During motorcycle trip of a lifetime, we stayed all across Canada. Our only bad experience was here. A friend and I parked our bikes in front of the hotel and were confronted by the very rude owner. The spots were marked for 15 minute parking and had cones. The owner was rude and sarcastic about our knowledge of the purpose of cones. We explained that we thought it was for hotel guests loading and unloading. Boy were we wrong. He was having the lines painted and had no time for us. We checked in and moved the bikes. I’d have left all together had it not been difficult to find accommodation. Once inside all was fine and staff was very helpful.
Will I recommend this hotel, no.

The Astoria Hotel did experience a bedbug problem in the summer/fall of 2015 and in fact there was a global insurgence of bedbugs during that period so the pests were being spread by unsuspecting travellers. The Astoria underwent a thirty thousand dollar heat treatment in November of 2015 which totally irradiated the problem and has not had a single incident of bedbugs since. In January of 2016 many hotels in Jasper contracted the services of a bedbug sniffing dog from Orkin pest control and we frequent the service on a monthly basis. The dog is extremely effective and accurate in locating bedbugs and we have the inspection reports to prove that we have not had any evidence of bedbugs in our guest rooms since November 2015. We also have no record of any complaint from any guest since then either so unless IreneQT stayed in the hotel prior to November 2015 she is not responding about the Astoria. As of September 2017 we remain the most totally bug free property in Jasper.
