My 9 year old daughter and myself stayed mid June 2020 for 4 nights. We love the mountains and really wanted to go as a celebration of being done schooling during the pandemic but everything is so expensive in Jasper. We stumbled upon this resort and were happily able to afford it with their promotion.
Our room was clean and had the amenities we needed. Front seat staff personally took us to our room and also made sure we got a kettle that we wanted. REALLY great service from all the staff. I hate to complain about anything because we had a wonderful time but it is worth mentioning. The walls in the 4 plex type units are extremely thin. We were woken up several times with loud talking, water running, kid’s jumping etc. Also, when we first checking into the room and into that night, we were fighting so many mosquitos. It made it for an uncomfortable first night stay. I’m pretty sure they were in the room because the cleaning staff keep the doors open while cleaning. Understandable but I wish there was a different solution.

Those were my only two complaints. We loved our stay. The restaurant had great food and attentive, personable servers. The gift shop was lovely and the staff were very knowledgeable.

The grounds were well tended too and my daughter was able to ride her bike around the pathways.

While the accommodations were "rustic", that was OK as we were not expecting luxury. Upon check-in ("queen cabin") we discovered a housekeeping issue, so we went to the front desk. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating, we moved units and all was fine. We opted for the "summer lovin'" special which came with a bottle of wine and breakfast (your choice from a full menu). We had the venison sausage omelet both days, very good; we had dinner one of our two nights and we both had the 8 oz filet which was cooked to absolute perfection for us both (one rare, one medium rare). The dinner service from Maria was excellent, as was service from Martin and the young man working the breakfast shift. Maria in particular was so kind and thoughtful, she made our meal all the more enjoyable. All the staff (restaurant, front desk, maintenance) we interacted with were very friendly and really made our stay even more enjoyable. Our room had a fireplace and both nights we had a starter log and some wood delivered, all complimentary. Mattress was on the firm side. Sunwapta Falls is a short walk away, very impressive!

We stayed two nights over the weekend for my spouse's birthday. We purchased a "summer lovin" deal with champagne included as well as breakfast, and felt like it was a good value for what we paid. We also enjoyed the complimentary fire wood/starter and enjoyed a fire in our cabin each night.
The location is quite remote, about 40 minutes outside of town, but it was great to stay a little bit closer to the Icefields and hikes in that area. We also appreciated the Wifi because there is no cell service for a long while on each side. Thanks for a great stay!

I would love to give this resort 5 stars. The location is so great and we loved that it wasn't right in the touristy centre of Jasper. The rooms are dated but clean and neat and the bed, bedding, and linens were all completely fine. The staff was also incredibly friendly and helpful. No complaints there at all. The rooms however, have very thin walls and you can hear everything going on in the room next to you, including snoring, conversations, etc. There's no ventilation in the room so you have to leave the windows open. This wasn't really a problem except that there was a group of people outside visiting until way past midnight (even though we were told at check in that quiet time was at 10pm). It was really hard to sleep between the noise from the room next to us and the visiting outside. I finally had to use ear plugs. The other issue is the water. It's drinkable but honestly, it's horrible. Bottles of water are for sale for $3.50 in the deli, which is ridiculous. Including a couple of bottles of water in the fridge would be a nice touch, considering the taste and colour of the water. I'm usually not fussy about these things but I couldn't drink it. I also wasn't prepared for there to not be dishes and cutlery in the room. Usually if there's a fridge, sink and cupboards, the room is stocked. During covid, I understand that all of that has been removed, but notification should be included on the website amenities section. Overall, the entire place needs to be upgraded and it would be amazing. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back which is really too bad because I really did love the location and the fact that I didn't need to go into Jasper for anything.

Rustic, in a nice isolated area directly off the highway with beautiful views of the mountain from our queen cabin room.

The staff went above and beyond, thank you so much to the front desk (Ontario and Ireland - sorry, I forgot your names) as well as the waiters and the kind guy who brought us our firewood.

Despite the room having thin walls and being able to hear our neighbours behind and beside us, we weren’t there to hang out in our room all day/night. Cozy fire every night to warm us up after our blizzard on our hikes.

Restaurant for dinner was superb, the soup was so flavourful. Yes, it’s expensive but the cost of bringing in a chef with supplies will lead you to that price.

I highly recommend.

This place is the getaway we needed!! My husband works in IT and has not had a break since Covid started. We took a weekend breather and right from the online booking to our departure from Sunwapta it was a great experience. (the wifi is very spotty and there is no cell service, which met our needs) The staff from the first hello went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The girls at the front desk were super helpful in planning activities, and giving info on the timeline, ( how far things are, how long things take). The staff in the restaurant was super helpful in making choices for us ( we eat a plantbased diet). The Veggie Korma is THE BOMB!! Waitstaff went out of their way to make sure we had a great meal, and went the extra step to ask about our vacation, even though they were super busy. So thoughtful and nice to know they really cared about our stay. The housekeeping staff was on top of anything that needed to be cleaned, and they were on point in high touch zones. The grounds are beautiful, everything is well maintained. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. (well only if they can control the weather and the crows at 5 am :)

Hey! We have been working on our skills and abilities and hope to one day gain control of both the weather and the Ravens, but alas, they are both tricky to master! Until that time, we are happy to hear we were still able to provide you with a nice (mostly) quiet getaway despite those pesky Ravens. Time away after these lockdowns is much needed and much deserved. I bet your husband especially enjoyed being unplugged and away from technology for your vacation! And even though we cannot offer top notch wifi, at least we are able to offer awesome vegan and vegetarian options. We are so happy to hear that you were able to have the getaway that you needed here at Sunwapta!

Staff were exceptional. Very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. The falls were a short walk away. Perfect little vacation. We booked using a promotional package which included breakfast and sparkling wine each day.

Great care is being taken regarding COVID-19 with all staff wearing masks and providing room amenities by request. Cabin was clean and updated. Champagne provided in room and staff walked us there. Great service. Bed was comfortable and we appreciated having sink separate from toilet/shower. Very convenient location to visit falls. Could walk easily from lodge. Excellent restaurant too. Highly recommend this lodge.

This reasonably priced lodge for the Rockys' is a rustic retreat in a beautiful location. The proximity to Sunwapta falls can't be beat. We enjoyed the real wood burning fireplace in our cabin and the staff were very friendly and professional. The cabin itself was dated but comfortable. We would have preferred a unit with a deck and some chairs to sit on.

One of the reasons we selected this lodge was the rave reviews about the restaurant. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The breakfast was good, but it's pretty hard to mess up french toast and omelettes. For dinner, we had the meat ad cheese platter which was disappointing...deli ham and turkey with baked brie that was not melted enough to spread, large chunks of Parmesan and some strange pickled tomatoes. Definitely not charcuterie material. My husband had the bison lasagna which he enjoyed, but for the price it could have come with a side salad and some garlic toast. $30 for a square of lasagna seems unreasonable. I had the french onion soup which tasted burnt and was overly think, almost like corn starch had been added. The cheese and crouton was so tough I needed a knife to try and cut it up to eat it. I should have known better than to expect great calamari in the mountains of Alberta but I'm pretty sure it was just a frozen product that was chewy. The dip was good though. Overall an expensive and disappointing meal.

Excellent room, very clean, wonderful food served to you in rooms (contactless). Amazing, friendly staff. Cute souvenirs in the gift shop. Walking distance to Sunwapta Falls. It was frosty and they made sure walkways were safe and clear to walk my dog early in the morning. Excellent value and we are planning our return. Can’t beat the mountain views in the morning. Great place to enjoy family time together.

Sunwapta is right in the centre of Jasper National Park, so the Icefields are 50km south and the town of Jasper 50km north. It's ideal if you like the idea of being in a truly rustic setting with great service from staff, and awesome food. The falls are a 5 minute walk away, more sets just 20 mins further from there. There are other local hikes. Athabasca falls is 1/2 way to Jasper... It's a great spot to use to explore. Your furthest site is Maligne Lake which is 50km down a different road south of Jasper. But the staff organize ideas for you so it's not like a boring drive, it's filled with opportunity to see and explore.

Hi Onabelle! We have seen the northern lights quite a few times at Sunwapta 😊. I will say you probably have to leave your room, but yes possible to see without leaving the hotel grounds. You’re bringing back some great memories with that question! 🙏Matt

Thank for your question! We do not have air conditioning in our rooms because temperatures drop fairly low overnight, even in the summer months! We do provide fans for each room if they decide it is a little bit warm.
