Stopped for a couple of brews at the Strathcona Hotel. As you would expect it was dark, dingy and smelled like beer. Tables were small and lots of wainscoting on the walls. There are many pictures of Strathcona in the early 1900's on the walls. The waitress was crusty but good service. Remember the days when a tray of beers...

Alarms start going off in my head, I start searching more and yep, Bed bugs. Lots of them. Grabbed my stuff and went back downstairs to et a...

We stayed on Friday cuz it was cheap and we couldn't drive we had to many drinks. I woke up the next day with itchy bumps on my arms, face and neck. After googling what it could be I find out it was bed bug bites! Do not stay there! It's cheap for a reason

People staying here are not on holidays. It's a rooming house more than a hotel. I stayed here after moving to town while I looked for some place to rent. Bath tubs and no showers. It was cleaned once a day so if someone used the tub or made a mess it stayed that way until morning. Whyte ave is...

It's like coming home.. I had to leave my home because the land lord saluted me. I couldn't afford more than 60 dollers a day so I came to the strat. And was very surprised. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!

The hotel is extremely affordable and the location was perfect. I especiall enjoyed the pub that was attached and the cheap beer! Being placed on Whyte Ave made it very convenient for going out and getting dinner. I spent almost no time in the room, but I can imagine they are quite spacious and comfortable. The staff are really friendly...

Best kept secret for budget travel. I was treated like family and given a room near the bathroom. Because it is inexpensive, people like me stay for weeks. Cigarette smokey and I didn't like the cleaning product smell either. Music from barroom nice, pigeons not nice. Feels like going back in time and room looked like a Van Gogh painting....

This really happened. First of all I checked into the hotel to the snarliest front desk clerk ever(female). After a few snarls from her I went out of my way to be really nice to her but to no avail. When I went to bed later that night I turned the bedspread back to go to bed only to see...

I went to Edmonton with some friends for a quick trip and listened to one girl's ideas in regards to almost the entire trip because she had been to Edmonton more times than me. We were on a tight budget and she'd said that she found a hotel on Whyte ave that was 'old and funky' and really cheap, so...

To start with, I must say that I've never actually stayed the night in a room, but you have to expect when heading to the Strat that it is going to be DIRTY! This is a classic piece of Edmonton history that people's parents and grandparent's can still talk about. The bar there is dirty and serves the best cheap...

“Stay in a different hotel. If you must stay here and are a light sleeper ask for a room at the back. (Although it won't be much quieter)”
