Went back to reception tried to change rooms another floor etc nothing decided to upgrade the room it was the only way out so we went to the 3rd floor in a much better room wood floors in a corner was spacious and comfortable the room for the extra $40 was nice I wish I had seen this when booking and would have booked this we only had 1 night in this wonderful room the 2nd night we had to move as they said they were full and we had to go back to a deluxe room but on the 3rd floor it was ok as we had the room early and we’re able to transfer bags across and open the window all day.
Downstairs the lounge areas are spacious and comfortable and you have history about the building itself which is nice they also have a restaurant which was good we only had breakfast there but this was good quality the mixed grill we went for the waiter Luke was really friendly and polite a fellow Brit so was nice to have a chat.
Lots of parking and would recommend that you do lake Louise the ice fields once you have checked in as parking anywhere around is hard the road upto Lake Louise is very busy from dawn to dusk.
The area around is spectacular though and they do have a hot tub on the roof with a mountain view so that is a bonus.
Reception staff were super helpful when we needed information and on the whole, the bar and waiting staff were really lovely, although seemed quite stretched at times. Breakfast on our first day was great, and the meals we had in the restaurant were good but pricey, which I guess is typical of the area and may also be down to our poor exchange rate. For the next couple of days we drove down into the village for breakfast and hiking pack-ups... check out the Trailhead Cafe, it's so good!!
Downsides: The public areas of the hotel (corridors / stairwells etc) were rather tired and scruffy; they really let the place down and I would expect better for the price we paid. The only other thing was that the bartender on our second night was rather brusque until we realised it may have been because we'd forgotten to tip on our first round (we charged everything to the room and on that occasion, forgot) but he became much more chatty and helpful after we made up for it with our next visit to the bar.
On the whole, it's quite pricey to stay here however we appreciate that the lodge is within an area with little competition and great proximity to the lakes and hikes. A little investment and 'love' could address many of the negative reviews and do justice to it's rich history.

We stayed here twice. Once in a regular room and the other time in a suite. The regular room was on our way up to Jasper, and the other was in a renovated King room on the way from Jasper to Banff.
The reviews for this place are all over the place and I was very skeptical to stay here. My wife said book it as it fit in with our itinerary, it was available, and the price was ok.
The regular room is fine to stay in for a night to see Lake Louise without having to do the shuttle. The room is small, old, but totally doable for a night. We are relatively picky, but the bed was comfy, and we were so tired after doing the big beehive we came back to the room showered, ate dinner on property and crashed.
The second time in the heritage renovated King room was very nice. The room had a view of the street/river with a balcony, was new with refreshed carpet in the room and hallway, and redone bathroom. We had a coffee maker in the King room, but not the regular. There is also free coffee every morning in the Lady A room on the first floor.
Of note, there is no elevator. We were on the 3rd floor our first stop and the 2nd the second go round.
The hot tub was not working on our second visit, but we didn't use it on our first stop and didn't plan to on our second. Many people were complaining and demanding discounts, dinner vouchers, etc.
Front desk staff was very nice and helpful.
The hotel is charming and quiet with lots of nooks and crannies and various sitting areas. The rooms are basic with a modern bathroom and no tv however good wifi so we were able to watch tv on our computer.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The restaurant food was really good and the included breakfast buffet offered good tasty choices. The checkin clerk was very welcoming.
The overnight cost is high, however it fits in with the cost of the Lake Louise and Banff areas so they are par for the area.
It is an easy 3-4 minute walk to Lake Louise.
We would stay here again.

The most unexpected highlight of this lodge was the roof top hottub, with spectacular views of the mountains and glacier. It was such a lovely way to relax after a long day on the trails!
A voucher is offered for the breakfast buffet, or you may apply it to a breakfast entrée from the menu. We appreciated the options and the late/extended breakfast hours, allowing us to still enjoy breakfast service after a morning of sunrise photography and hiking at the lake!
Please keep in mind this is not a modern hotel with a lodge vibe, it is a historic 100 year old lodge. It is rustic, quirky and full of charm. If you want modern and all the luxurious posh frills look elsewhere.
