Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a peaceful retreat on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, AB. The lodge is surrounded by 9 acres of towering fir, pine, and spruce trees, yet just a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the shopping, nightlife and restaurants that are on offer in downtown Banff. A favourite visitor pastime is to observe the deer and elk who frequently nibble on the lawn, right outside the lodge's windows. The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Rooms at the lodge have fieldstone wood-burning fireplaces, cozy duvets, LCD televisions and Blu-ray players. Many feature patios or balconies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, The Prow. You can also enjoy quick bites at our Buffalo Mountain Cafe.

This was our first place to stay in Canada and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

The room that we had was lovely. It had a view out toward one of the mountains and it certainly was a lovely thing to wake up to. The room itself was comfy, warm and had a good bathroom and the open fire was a very nice touch. The rooms were always cleaned to a good standard and fire made ready for us upon our return every day which was very welcome considering we were skiing in -30.

The staff on the front desk could not have been any more obliging and were full of advice on things to do in the area. We booked a couple of excursions through them on their recommendations and the process was extremely easy!

The location was great, far enough out of town to be peaceful and quiet but close enough that we could get in and make the most of all that Banff had to offer with ease. It’s a bit of a walk to the Center but nothing too strenuous and the views are on the way are stunning. The free shuttle service on offer was fantastic and the staff running it could not have been more helpful.

We only ate in the restaurant for an evening meal once and it was very pleasant. We did have breakfast a couple of mornings and although very tasty the portions were a little too large for us but everyone’s taste is different.

In summary we thoroughly enjoyed our stay (so much so that we ended up adding an extra three nights on at the end) the staff on the front desk and those running the shuttle were ace and the location was perfect.

Many thanks for a lovely stay

I am currently sat in Calgary airport waiting to fly back to London with my wife and we are both so sad to be leaving.

We stayed for ten nights at Buffalo Mountain Lodge and it was great.

Firstly a big shout out to all the staff, everyone was to friendly, helpful and polite, in particular thank you to the drivers of the shuttle for putting up with driving us about as well as ??? at the reception.

We stayed in a standard room, it was fairly basic with just a coffee machine. However we had a great view of the trees and from time to time we were able to watch the wildlife walk by. Also the room had great heating and it was always toasty. One issue we had is our room was next to the wooden steps to get to the next floor and that could be very loud with people walking up and down. Also you can hear noises from the room above you although ear plugs were provided. Last point on the room, the shower from upstairs leaked water into our bath tub, again minor point but the dripping did drive me mad at one point.

The cleaners tended to come by to make up our room fairly late in the day around 3/4 when we were often back from whatever we had been doing and getting ready for the evening so it wasn't practical for them to do the room. However again they were polite and happy to give us any supplies if needed.

We only ate at the restaurant twice which was for the buffet breakfast, preferring to go into town. However we ate at the onsite cafe a number of times and have no complaints, I had the best cappuccinos I have had for some time.

Location wise the hotel is roughly 15minutes from downtown Banff, not a bad walk getting there but can be tiring climbing back up, especially after a hearty meal.

Overall a great time, we are already looking at coming back next year

We stayed in with our dog in one of the pet friendly rooms with the kitchenette family day weekend. These rooms are older, but we are okay with that, happy to be able to bring our pup.

Room:
We were just disappointed that we were charged a 25 dollar extra per night cleaning fee for the dog (totalling 75 dollars three nights stay) when there was dog hair from the previous stay all over the bed. The comforter was covered in the last dogs hair. The cleaning fee they charge for pets to stay isn’t even used to clean the rooms any extra, so it’s frustrating that we had to pay the fee anyway.
I just feel like it’s awesome to have these rooms where people can bring pets but we still don’t want to sleep in dirty rooms. That extra fee needs to go towards dry cleaning the bedding.

Restaurant :
We ate in the restaurant Valentine’s Day. It is a cozy place and we had a great table. Food was very bland. The burger, the bison Bolognese and one of the salads we had all just okay. Overall, wouldn’t eat here again.
We did love hanging out by the fire in the bar. So cozy, great set up to hang out and have drinks.

Cafe :
Our favourite part there is a separate cafe we had coffees at before heading to ski each morning so good! Loved the vibe and delicious snacks well priced. There is also a fire pit out front we didn’t get a chance to use but looked awesome.

Hot tub :
Really nice little fire going at the hot tub. Change rooms exceptionally clean.

Shuttle :
Another positive was the complimentary shuttle to town. Runs until 1030pm I believe.

My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at BML. We liked the interior, however, it is dated but it wasn't a huge problem for us. The room is very well heated, we thought the balcony added a nice touch to our stay and the room was always cleaned whenever we got back from our days out.

The staff were more than accommodating, they answered all our questions, each and every staff member we spoke to were polite. The bonus of staying here was the free shuttle service to take us downtown was brilliant and saved us a load of taxi trips! I would like to note that the guy - with dark hair, quite young and wears glasses - who drove us to and from town is a great guy to chat to!

The one thing that did confuse us throughout our entire stay was the fireplace - we thought making a fire would be a good idea but we set the fire alarm off almost immediately so we stopped using the fireplace to prevent disturbing our neighbours.

Overall, it was a great stay!

Recently we enjoyed a little family getaway for 4 days at Buffalo Mountain Lodge. We had a long drive to get to Banff so we were very disappointed when our room was not ready upon arrival. We were told it would be ready in 5 minutes. We waited in our truck for an hour and still not ready. We checked the front desk again and they said 5 more minutes. We waited a half hour longer and it still was not available. We decided to go downtown to shop and an hour later we finally were called that our room was available. A lodge of this size should have their housekeeping/check-in better organized. Nothing is more exasperating after driving all day to not have a room ready upon arrival and have to wait hours when you are told it will be 5 minutes.

Secondly...the carpet was disgusting in our room. With Covid the hospitality industry is taking a hit but an investment that will be well worth it would be to replace the carpet with laminate that can be washed and sanitized. We travelled with our dogs and we didn’t even want them laying on the carpet as it was so filthy.

Other than these issues, our stay was great. If the carpet gets removed, we will return. It’s a deal breaker as I want a hotel to be spotless in order to stay comfortably.

And lastly...love the location on the outskirts of town. Downtown Banff is busy and noisy, but BML is in an idyllic setting with stunning views. We could walk to town but head back to the lodge to escape the chaotic frenzy of downtown Banff which was wonderful.

We have only stayed at Buffalo Mountain Lodge when we have visited Banff, and did so this visit. As usual, the staff was wonderful, professional, and very helpful. Tas, the manager, was so helpful when we were waiting for the lodge to finish renovating some rooms to make them fully wheelchair accessible. As soon as they were complete, he reached out and gave us the heads up. The new rooms were modern, wide open, and ADA accessible (a rarity in Banff!). We also appreciated the thoughtful gift of freshly baked, still warm, cookies. Yummy!

Buffalo Mountain Lodge remains our only choice to stay when we go to the mountains. In my opinion, it is situated in the perfect location, and I love that they have real wood burning fireplaces, too. As well, the food is delicious and locally sourced. Perfect all around! We look forward to our next visit. Thank you, Tas, and thank you to the awesome staff, for another memorable stay.

We were 5 adults who decided to have our new years dinner at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge’s restaurant, opting for quite a luxurious and expensive (CAD$90/ person for a 3 /4 course dinner), but quieter evening in Banff. The lodge’s restaurant is situated in the main bar and lobby and has a really majestic setting. Having dined there 3 night before,
I was confident about the quality and service to expect. Unfortunately I had to confirm the reservation 3 times as nobody sent me a mail to confirm the reservation which the booking staff had undertaken. We then were placed in an adjacent family room with many minors and were not included in the evening celebrations. To top it all the service left much to be desired, our waitress forgot to bring us our first course, the table was not cleared between the different courses and the restaurant ran out of duck, which was one of the three options for the main course. Unfortunately a disappointing and expensive experience.

Myself and my partner have just returned from a five night stay here. We stayed in a premier room and it was beautiful. Staff went out of their way to help and accommodate all requests, and taught us how to set up the fire ourselves.

We had complimentary ear plugs which concerned us a bit! But we only heard our neighbours once. We did request a room on the first floor which I think helped with there not being any bother from the noise.

The hot tub was lovely, and big enough that even when there were others in it, it wasn’t a bother. The room was clean and made up every day and the breakfast offered was lovely too. It is a short walk out of the centre, but the walk is fine and there is also a roam bus (number 2) that stops just at the hotel opposite, for $2 a ride or $5 for a day pass - if you go by the timetables it’s super convenient!

I would 100% recommend staying here. The surroundings are beautiful, and the rooms have a rustic charm.

We had a disappointing stay at the Lodge. Check in went smooth and the front desk attendance was great! Upon arrival to our room it was very obvious the rug hadn't been vacuumed and when we pulled back the comforter on the bed there was hairs on the sheets and there was also no soap in the bathroom. We called down to the front desk and they sent someone to vacuum and change the sheets and we had to wait in our car which was an inconvenience. When the housekeeping staff person left we noticed he hadn't changed the sheets so we had to call down to the front desk attendant again and she apologized and she sent someone from housekeeping again to change the sheets. Had to wait in our car again. The lady that came was not very friendly and did not look happy that she had to change the sheets. We were very happy with the front desk attendant, she called back to make sure everything was ok. We were just very disappointed with the cleanliness of the room and the unfriendliness of one of the staff members. We thought maybe we would have gotten some sort of compensation - free breakfast, etc. but nothing was offered. Unfortunately we will not be staying at the Lodge again.

We were excited to stay here, the staff were amazing on our arrival, the room wasn't ready, so we were invited to wait in the restaurant where we were greeted by a friendly bartender, He served a pretty good Caesar. We went to our room, it was what we expected except that the cleanliness wasn't up to 100 percent. If they gave the cleaning staff a duster, they could have done the beds, the lamps, the baseboards and baseboard heaters, I would have given them a higher rating. We are well aware of the staffing issues across Canada, but sometimes it just takes an extra 10 minutes to bring the standards up. Being an older lodge, we expected noise, so given that the guests above us were heavy walkers, and we could hear it, but am thankful they were quiet otherwise. The breakfast was part of the package we bought and was delicious. Thank you for a great stay.
