Stayed here for 3 nights after spending 3 nights in Cockermouth, the location for us was good and had a lovely big beer garden which our dog certainly enjoyed. The room we stayed in could do with modernisation, dated furniture and decorations, no shower but a comfy bed. Clive and Mel were friendly, breakfast was standard cereal and full English, I asked for veggie breakfast when booking but this wasn’t available?? I think this could be a beautiful little place but unfortunately for us it didn’t tick all the boxes this time.

We stayed here for a week having had to make last minute changes to our plans following a cancelled overseas holiday. What a find! The owners Clive and Mel were very friendly and welcoming from the minute we arrived and throughout our stay. They couldn’t do enough for us and made our week special. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is a lovely place to spend time with an enormous sunny garden and comfortable rooms. It’s also a great base for exploring the local area, the lakes and other parts of Cumbria. Highly recommended for any length of stay - you won’t be disappointed.

Stopped off for a meal. Really welcoming and good value for money. Also dog friendly with a lovely garden. There were five of us in the party and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. Excellent Service. Highly Recommended.

We booked what was billed as a superior room with countryside views. The room was very cramped and overlooked a busy road. We were told a room change to one at the back was out of the question, although they didn't seem to be that busy. After checking in we left the hotel via the back door in the bar area as instructed according with virus regulations, only to hear a male voice shout very sarcastically 'thanks for calling'. We found this quite intimidating. Later that evening the landlord apologized and said that he had thought we had just walked in off the street. That may be but surely any person in his hotel should be dealt with in a respectful manner. We stayed for three nights, the bed was comfortable and the en suite bathroom had a newly refurbished feel to it. There should be a mirror in the bedroom as you can't take a hair drier into the bathroom for reasons of safety. The fish and chips were lovely but the Quorn lasagne was overcooked and dry, and the garlic bread was burnt. We were told that there were no drink making facilities in the bedrooms due to covid but that we could use communal facilities in the dining room. How is that safer than facilities in the bedrooms when you have to touch what others have handled before you? Also I prefer that people serving me with food wear a mask. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

From the time we walked through the door, until we left 4 nights later Mel and Clive made us feel incredibly welcome. They were both very attentive, friendly and couldn't have done more for us. The food in the hotel was so good! Home cooked fresh food. It was always piping hot and served with such friendliness. The hotel beer garden was beautiful and transquill. Even though the hotel was on a road you couldnt hear the traffic. tea and coffee was included and available the entire time. The hotel was clean and very comfy. Had the best 4 nights sleep there too! I would highly recommend the hotel, even more so for the food and hospitality provided by Mel and Clive. Thank you both so much for making our wedding anniversary even more special ❤️
