Despite the austere exterior (fairly typical in Iceland) the hotel is extremely welcoming and cosy inside and elegantly decorated. There is a lovely full-height-windowed bar with fantastic views over the sea and mountains plus comfortable sofas in a dark cosy lounge. The dining room is elegant, simply decorated in a shaker style with dark walls - very romantic looking at... More

This hotel is placed near to an nice and small church in an incredible location. It is a place to see the northern lights, to relax and to be impressed by the view. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice decoration and good rooms. They also have a good restaurant. Must reserve in advance because in the summer they have one... More

This is an ideal hotel to stay in if you are exploring The Snaefellsness Peninsula. The views from the rooms are stunning. We were however very disappointed in our room - a deluxe double but there was nothing deluxe about it! The bed was very comfortable but the room was quite small and spartan - the bathroom was so tiny... More

The hotel is in a very remote area called Budir. There's nothing else but the hotel and the black church. But the view is just breath-taking. The room, the service, and the food at the hotel are all just so so. But the view makes it worth everything. A must visit !!

Thank you for a nice week end. We were celebrating our 38 weeding anniversery. We had a great trip through the Snæfellsnes national park. Our deluxe room nr. 5 had a beutiful view towards the sea þand the room was comfortable. The gourmet dinners prepared by chef Thorvaldur were superb. Recommend the 5 course advendures menu. All staff were super... More

Room was fine, nothing to write home about but comfortable beds. Hotel is full of character: great old natural history prints, Nat Geo collection, cozy bar and reading area. Only ate breakfast, which was ok. Nice staff. The real reason to stay here is the unparalleled setting: we saw incredible northern lights, sunrise over the lava fields and old church,... More

The location is everything we thought it would be- remote and beautiful. The bar area is quaint and lots of lobby areas to lounge. If you are looking for a quiet/romantic retreat, you will be happy. Staff was friendly. Very cool hiking trails right next to the property through lava fields. Easy access to the peninsula. The drawbacks are: -... More

We stayed at Hotel Budir for our wedding night and enjoyed every minute. The Hotel is framed by sweeping panoramic views of volcanic mountains and the North Atlantic. The Hotel itself is stunning, with immaculate finishes and an eclectic design. However, while the facilities are impressive, it's the incredible staff and exceptional customer service that makes the hotel shine. Our... More

It is hard to review this hotel as it was nice, and I would stay there again, but there were some basic things missing. First of all, it is perfect for seeing the Snaefellsjokull coast. Beautiful views. The staff was very nice and very helpful! We had a room on the top floor that was across the roof top to... More

While the bedroom was a good size the furnishings were tired and would benefit from refurbishment. That said the hotel's position on the shore line and its magnificent views together with its ready access to easy walking areas more than compensated its shortcomings. The Dining Room was well appointed and the public areas had character.

Hotel Budir is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countryside hotels in Iceland, just a short drive from Iceland's capital city, Reykjavik. The hotel sits in a lava field on the westernmost tip of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, in the western region of Iceland. Hotel Budir's restaurant, arguably one of the most romantic restaurants in Iceland, has been referred to as "The Mecca of Icelandic cooking", due to its unique and delightful cuisine. The restaurant's menu is seasonal and takes advantage of fresh local produce like seafood and fish from neighbouring villages such as Stykkisholmur, Olafsvik and Borgarnes. The hotel also organises and hosts a number of weddings, all of which are unique and tailor made with the wedding couple or their representatives. Many of the weddings ceremonies are conducted in the little church close to Hotel Budir or in the hotel reception; it is even possible to get married on the golden sand beach close to the hotel. In addition, the hotel also offers facilities for meetings and small-to-medium sized conferences thus making it ideal for business-meetings or conferences with colleagues.Hotel Budir has it all, a world-class service, fine food and drink and luxurious rooms, making it ideal for get-togethers with friends and family, or a romantic weekend with a loved one - all of which can be enjoyed in an indescribably beautiful environment. ... more   less
