Dinning Issues: -beef is the lowest quality beef. Tough, rubbery and gristly. It’s inedible. Bring higher quality beef in or don’t serve beef at all. Lowest quality ever had in my life. Pork is too rubbery, tough and overcooked. -Italian dishes Lasagna and Chicken Piccata was served at room temperature at the Italian Restaurant . It must be served hot at 140f or 60c. It could get people sick and also it tastes terrible at room temperature -No olive oil and vinegar or italian dressing is served at salad bars. Unprecedented in my travels. -Shrimp is unappetizing as it’s served with its head and shell on. It’s too difficult to take the shell off. Serve it with no shell and head. -The breakfast potato’s had a bitter aftertaste. It might be from the skin. Not sure but the bitterness was disgusting. PLEASE CHANGE to rice or remove the skin or add fries. -Repetition of food can drive you crazy. After 3 nights I was extremely tired of the food. -I had an upset stomach that made me want to go home. -More smiles are needed with some, especially from the omelette cook and some servers looked sad. GOOD: -Very Clean Facilities, room, pool area and public restrooms. The staff is always cleaning. Thank you! -generally good service at the restaurants and bars. -Most of the food was at proper temperatures at the buffets, except some areas of the buffet were cold and not at proper holding temperatures -excellent housekeeping services. -Clean pool and great poolside bartender service. -Cool air conditioning -Nice Fitness Center. Some older machines needed to be replaced. -Mostly nice employees especially Rebecca at the front desk and some bar tenders. -Priced at good value compared to Cancun and Cabo San Lucas. -Beautiful beach, sunsets and warm ocean and pool water temperatures. nice! Waves can be fun to play in, but be careful of some dangerous surf that can slam you down to the bottom. Watch out, but have fun! -Lots of Mexican families with high class that are gracious and respectful compared to the Spring Break crowds from the USA and Canada. This means the resort is relatively quiet and tranquil.

I stayed at the Barcelo Ixtapa for 10 days in early March 2024. It was a family trip with my wife and young child. This was our second visit, the first being in Feb 2023. Room: We stayed in a superior family villa. It is an excellent layout for a family with kids. Master bedroom also has a bathroom and shower, while main living area had two "beds" for young kids, kitchen table, kitchenette, and bathroom/shower. In general, the rooms are quite tired and could use a refresh. You will read this in most other reviews. Certainly not a luxurious feel anymore. But the layout is good. Wifi is spotty in the family villa building, but good most other areas of the resort. Airport Transportation/Check-in: We booked through Westjet, and an agent was very visible at the airport and walked us to the bus. Very simple. Bus ride was about 30 minutes in total, Barcelo was the second stop. Hotel check-in was quick, however we got lucky with a very short line. Hotel Staff: Everyone is very helpful, zero complaints or concerns. Most speak good enough english for us with no spanish to be able to communicate. Restaurants: As we had a young child with us, we did not each at the restaurants that required reservations for dinner. We ate at the Veranda Restaurant (main dinner buffet), Caracol Restaurant (lunch restaurant, not a buffet), and Miramar (lunch buffet). Overall, the food was average. We are not foodies and the food was still below our expectation. But we still enjoyed certain dishes. Pools/Beach: Lots of loungers. We put towels on loungers as late at 8:00 am and there was still a good selection available. Lots of pools so even if there were lots of kids around it never felt full or hectic. Beach is fantastic in Ixtapa, no seaweed or anything like that. In short, it's close to the airport, clean, with friendly staff. Food is average, rooms are certainly not luxurious. Pools and beach are great. I would call it a 3.5 star, probably more expensive than it should be.

This overall was a good vacation experience. Lets start with the good: The property's exterior is well maintained and very clean. The pool area is nice with plenty of lounges. The shows were well done. The views were some of the best. The food was very good for the most part some items no so good but that is just my preference. The staff was friendly and helpful as possible, I don't speak Spanish and several staff members did not speak English but we got by. The not so good: At the check in I booked my reservation on their site online and got my amount to pay at check-in, during check-in they charged an additional $80.00 us approx. because of some coupon they said should have been emailed to me, it never was. I argued for a bit but was tired from the travel and just wanted to get to my room. The bathroom toilet filler valve ran the whole time we were there, you have to straddle the toilet or get into the shower to close the bathroom door. The hand wand for the shower was broken and only stayed in the low position. The noise from the center area after midnight was amplified from the building design. The door to the rooms did not have thresholds or seals to help control outside noise so the more unruly people late at night would keep us awake. The internet sign on process is terrible, my wife finally got signed on but i never did, no great loss. We attempted to get our luggage brought down at our departure but the language barrier didn't work out, we just brought it down ourselves.

We have been coming to the Barcelo Ixtapa since 2001 and plan to return next year! Overall it was a great 2 weeks. Some things are always perfect; especially the weather. We have traveled extensively and not found a place where the weather is near perfect every day January- March. If you are escaping the cold and don’t want to worry about rain; this is your spot. The second reason we come here is the 2 mile beach. We walk it everyday. It’s relatively flat with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and the small islands that are sprinkled throughout Ixtapa Bay. It’s not one of the powder white Beaches you’ll find in he Caribbean, but is clean with no seaweed (as you frequently have in many Caribbean beaches). The third reason we enjoy this Barcelo is the people. Favorite Barceló staff this year included Marlen Genesis Renee Alfredo Jesus Ambrosio There are others, but these people always had a smile on their face and were willing to go the extra mile. I would say that relative to previous years there are more staff that just didn’t seem like they were happy to be there However if you go, you can find your way to the right people which helps make your stay all the more enjoyable. For those of you looking for an elegant place, you may be disappointed. The hotel is old and needs updating. However the staff keeps the place meticulously clean. We feel very safe in the hotel and for the most part in the town of Ixtapa. We also make trips to Zihautenao to dine and shop, but you should know where you’re going in Zhiwat. I wanted to thank you for moderating the music volume and genre especially during the week of February 26 when it was actually quite pleasant. I realize you are catering to a wide variety of clientele, so this is difficult. Even more I bothersome are the activity directors. I would suggest you turn down the microphones all the time. Anything you can do to limit the amount and volume of their microphone time they have is a positive. For example once you have announced water basketball game, is it necessary for the entire hotel listening to the commentators tell us when a basket is scored? Lastly on the topic of creating a pleasant experience for all your guests DO NOT PERMIT BOOM BOXES or speakers.it’s ridiculous sitting in the middle of 3 different boom boxes and the overhead music you are playing. Many hotels I visit have signs that prohibit boom boxes in the pool areas. Finally I would say the nightly shows were very good. I’m not coming to the hote for the shows, but even do we attends 4-5 dying our stay. I know for many it is one of the highlights of their stay. Now…There are a few things for my Amigos that run the place. The bathroom near the Charocol still smells. I (especially my wife) complain about this every year. It is the only bathroom on the property that is bad. If I had the money I would find a way to replace it. The tables and chairs in the dining room and lobby bar need to replaced or at least repaired. Although your staff is good about crawling on the floor to keep the tables from wobbling (not just a little) , it is kind of ridiculous to have try and shove a flip flop somewhere so your drinks don’t end up on your lap. The rooms are cleaned well each day by your excellent maid service, but I’ve never stayed in a room that doesn’t have small, but bothersome maintenance issues. For instance this year the make up light didn’t work, the sink was barely draining, the shower diverted was only half working and the shower handle bracket for the hand held shower head was broken (Room 1026). I think it would help if your maintenance staff proactively addressed these kinds of issues. I very much appreciate the upgrade to the mattresses I complained about some years ago. This was a game changer!! Now we need to work on the pillows. They seemed to be internally wrapped in some kind of plastic I’m sure there’s a good reason for it, but it is bothersome. Overall I thought the food was noticeably better in the specialty restaurants this year, but the buffets were terrible. Even the breakfast buffet was lacking. For example if you wanted bacon you had to ask the omelette chef who would leave their station to find some bacon in the back that was almost always overcooked and inedible. The one, two slice roster in the outside breakfast Buffett only toasted one side of the bread. Additionally I think you could add a second toaster so your food wouldn’t get cold while waiting in line for toast. I’d suggest you have a good chef put more attention to what is being served at the buffets. Having said this the fresh fruit was very good. And finally a plug for the pool bar bartenders. They are very dedicated and overly tolerant of some of your more over-served guests. I notice none of them wear sunglasses. In may countries this would be considered a health violation. Staring directly into the sun ever can damage your eyes. I can’t imagine that at least some of the bartenders wouldn’t want to protect thei eyes! I know this is a lot, but as a business owner I always relished feedback. I know you taken my comments seriously in the past and hope something here will help make the Barcelo Ixtapa an even greater place! See you in 2025😎

The resort was clean, we traveled with another couple. Our room was on 11 floor ocean view small with double beds very small balcony. Beds were very hard. Every morning we woke up to the smell of onions. Our shower was a very slow drain. Toilet had issues as well. Breakfast was buffet. At lunch a few times only 1 buffet restaurant was open and the food wasn’t the best. My husband got sick day 3. We felt like this hotel was not geared for international travellers it catered more for the locals. Even the pool activity was spoken in Spanish. And the evening show, (2 that we attended) with the same staff only spoke In Spanish. Oh and the beach chairs if you want a good spot you need to go early 4am with your towels. No service by the pools. I should’ve read the reviews before booking. Even the staff at the front desk were not helpful.

3rd in ixtapa, 1st time at Barcelo. I would actually give this a 4.5, the location is ideal, right across the street from the market and restaurants, the beach location is spectacular, walked it for an hour every morning. The food is pretty darn good for an all inclusive, I’d have to say more hits than misses than other resorts we’ve stayed at. We found all the staff extremely helpful. The nightly entertainment knocked our socks off, they have assembled an unbelievably talented group of people. Yes it’s looking a bit dated but our room was clean.

Communication was very difficult. And any maintenance took forever. One couple’s door handle was nearly falling off & was never fixed. We all paid for superior ocean views & 2 of the couples were put in regular rooms. We did all eventually get in rooms we paid for. Every couple was locked out of their rooms multiple times. This did not seems to concern the staff at the front desk. We had to ask for the bottle water, coffee, & toilet paper to be restocked. The device was very slow & subpar at the bars, restaurants, & pool

Pros of this resort Beautiful, clean resort, we had a very nice ocean view room Gorgeous beach Very nice pools Good breakfast buffet 2 / 4 good a la carte restaurants Friendly and helpful reception staff Close to town of Ixtapa Cons Caters more to Hispanic population with the food and activities Buffet food very repetitive, a lot of Mexican dishes Loud Mexican music and narrative near main pool we found annoying Shortage of towels in room at times Rooms outdated Had a leak in bathroom ceiling , told staff about it a few times, no one came to investigate , luckily it quit We didn’t find buffet and restaurant staff overly friendly or accommodating except for Eduardo at the far pool bar, he was great ! Italian and Japanese a la carte restaurants were the best of the four
