I stayed here to get to another place for my business meeting as it was close to the airport. I arrived late at night and couldn't phone a taxi from the airport to the hotel so I called the hotel and they kindly ordered one for me. They had described how I would get into the hotel and my room and when I arrived they were there to greet me and let me in themselves anyway despite the fact that is was the middle of the night. The room was fine and all I needed with a kettle for tea. The view was stunning. But the best experience was when I had to leave. They had prepared the most thoughtful breakfast for me to take with and they called me another taxi, too. The staff really makes this hotel! they were so friendly, thoughtful and kind. I would go back.
Following a recent restructure and evaluation of its abundant assets in accommodations, this hotel has become more than a place to sleep and eat - it’s a cozy oasis from the harsh and fierce elements so common to us in Northern Norway. During a business trip working outside in extreme weather conditions for a couple of days, it was a joy entering this hotel and be greeted with capable, enthusiastic and helpful staff. No request on our behalf were too complex or difficult to fulfill. It seems that everyone works together organically, are empowered to do as they see best, yet managed in a way where we the customers do not notice anything. One would be forgiven to mistake this to be an effectively run family hotel - and I mean this in the most complimentary manner possible. Food is abundant virtually all day long (at least when we where there), breakfast simple but more than decent enough, super tidy, clean everywhere, and the hotel room spacious (though not luxurious, very comfortable but old fashioned - a welcome change to the plentiful modern hotels) with everything working as it should. I believe they also have apartments closer to the coast, as well as a camping area. In a nutshell, if they continue like this they might just epiphanise what accommodation in Northern Norway should all be about - majestic nature seen through large windows with cheery guests all around, because they feel at home.…
Huge construction site right next to hotel ruining what could be a peaceful ish place to stay. Houses are clean but very basically furnished. Asian restaurant is comfortable but food could be improved. Hurtigruta and goods port right opposite which is convenient but can again be noisy. Stokmarknes is a somewhat uneventful town but a good staging post for Vesterålen and Lofoten.
When the new hotel, Richard With will open in Stokmarknes next year I do think Vesterålen Kysthotell will struggle to survive! When we arrived we understood that checking in was a slow task. But no big problem. We asked for a room with view, but was told that those rooms were occupied. OK. When we got a room, all the bath room floor was covered with hair! When I complained, they found another basement room with a very limited view. I then told I would rather clean the floor my self. But then at a sudden there was a good room with view available, but they just had to give it a clean up!. The personal was very kind, but utterly unprofessional. Next morning we got a very simple breakfast. Stokmarknes was no good place to stop, but if we will be back there, we will not stay at this hotel.…
I stayed here for two nights. On the first day, I arrived early, but got the room immediately, nice for me. The room was large, compared to other hotels in Norway, and with good bed and both a writing desk with chair and an armchair to sit in. Plenty of space for clothing, if I had spent more than two days, I would definitely have used them. Nice bathroom with a nice, large shower. The hotel seems to be quite new, although not brand new. The rooms and everywhere else was spotless, clean and nice. The restaurant had a lovely view over the ocean just below the hotel. The breakfast was like most hotels in Norway, good and sufficient buffet. I didn't try the restaurant for dinner or lunch, so I can't evaluate that. Receptionists and cleaner nice and efficient, and just press the bell, and someone arrives. Would love to come back! I had a brilliant, although somewhat long walk along the main road, from the airport, due to lack of taxis. Still, on a nice day, the hour or so walk was marvellous, despite no pavement along most of the road. If you want a taxi, you should pre-order it.…
Given the price I paid for 2 nights in the hotel (3300 NOK) I was expecting decent service and food and was very disappointed. I am aware that things are different with the COVID-19 but having stayed in other hotels in Norway in the last 2 weeks I can say that customer service is not the focus in this hotel. It was a ghost hotel. I saw no staff at reception during the 2 days I was there, except on the day of my arrival and the first morning at breakfast. The restaurant is closed and there is no information about where to go for food and so on. The reception closes around 7pm and you have to dial a number to open the door. The breakfast was horrible. With the new covid-related regulations you are usually served a breakfast plate with at least the option of warm food. There, no. On the first morning I arrived and waited 10 minutes for breakfast before having to ask the receptionist (who was chatting away with a colleague) if I could have breakfast. I should not have bothered. The breakfast plate had been stored in a fridge on full power, everything was super cold and there was not even the possibility to have fruit juice or decent tea. I did not bother the next day and bought everything to have breakfast in my room. The room is the only positive as it is spacious and the surroundings are quiet. However, there was no cleaning of my room during my whole stay nor changing of towels. I did not see anyone. I left the hotel by simply putting the key on the reception desk and that was it. Not good enough. I will not come back. I am due to travel back to Vesterålen in August and will for sure stay in Sortland or Melbu.…
A poor and remote location without any alternatives to have a meal. Restaurant was closed at 8 PM when I arrived on April 15/2019. If you don't have a car, you're stucked to this place. A good advice: Find something else.
Are you planning a visit to Vesterålen? Continue on to Melbu or Sortland. Unfortunately, this hotel does not live up to its 90's reputation. Not close at all! If you order a rorbu and get it confirmed, it does not mean that you get it. You can easily be referred to a camping cabin that they call Nordlandshus. The service in the restaurant is good, but it is also the only place. For me this is a expensive Motel not a average Hotel.
My girlfriends originally a local so we stayed at her mothers house, but the weather was beautiful so we came here for a beer and some nuts on the terrace. My girlfriend drank Corona and me some local beer, the sun was shining and view spectacular with moutains, fjords, seabirds and Hurtigruten. Here you can see northern Norway at it's finest.
If you don’t take a cabin, this hotel is basically a motel, a good average quality but nothing exceptional especially is you are mislead by the photo of the small cabins while you will end up on the parking. Restaurant atmosphere is rather noisy and cold. Good for a overnight stop but nothing more
