We regularly stay at Anchorage. It’s the best beachfront accomodation we’ve found. The studio room is larger than most one bedroom units, it has a kitchen, queen bed, couch and dining area as well as a full sized bathroom. All balconies have sea views and you sleep with the ocean waves in the background.Damian and Leanne are wonderful hosts and the place is always beautiful. Will definitely be back.

Hi.
I now live in the UK but grew up in Brisbane. Visited here with all my family over the week in October. It’s on the beach👍 No long walk no car journeys. The place is spotless. BBQ area is like a B&Q show case, there is even a fridge there. The manager is helpful and friendly. Parking spaces are big so it’s easy to unload. The rooms are tidy and cooking facilities are great. Good strong showers. Myself and family have holidayed all over Europe in beach villa’s and apartments and the Anchorage smashes them all for six in terms of position and value. Can’t wait till we return.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in October. We stayed in apartment 63 on the top floor. It was a 1 bedroom apartment with an on suite bathroom and laundry, a spacious lounge and fully equipped kitchen. It was clean and fairly modern with nice outside decks off the lounge and bedroom. It was approximately 70 metre's walk through an area of trees and bush onto a beautiful white sand beach. Parking was excellent on site in a small garage.
When we first walked in we were very happy with this nice spacious apartment. A few minutes drive to supermarkets, cafe's and restaurants and the North Gorge walk and Main Beach. The property has a really nice tepid swimming pool which we enjoyed. We really enjoyed our stay here and wished we had stayed longer. The bed was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. On check in the man at reception was very friendly and gave us some good local knowledge. Check out was also quick and easy. We thought our stay was good value for money, and would recommend to other travelers. We would definitely stay here again.
Just one thing there are no lifts and there were quite a few stairs up to our apartment. This was not a problem for us, but If you have mobility issues or elderly ask for a lower floor apartment.

I was very excited for this accomodation, however we were incredibly disappointed with our 1 bedroom apartment which felt like a construction site. The flooring had been removed and was left as bare concrete with grit. As the flooring had been removed and the doors not adjusted for this there was a substantial gap underneath the apartment door allowing for a constant influx of bugs throughout the night. There was no comfortable furniture; the couch and table had been replaced with outdoor furniture. When we raised our concerns with the on-site manager we were informed the apartments are individually owned and the owner of this apartment enjoyed this style. The website pictures were a significant misrepresentation of the apartment we received and we certainly would not have paid just under 300 per night to stay here. In addition the wifi did not adequately reach our apartment and there is very minimal phone reception at this location.
The resort is certainly in a great location with beach access but I could not recommend the resort for the price paid.

Very disappointed. We also stayed in Unit 11 (see previous review). The one bedroom unit as advertised on the website was nothing like the one we stayed in. It looked like it was in the middle of a renovation. The fact that there were no floor coverings at all, only bare concrete was not acceptable. It was not only unsightly but unhygienic. There were rough patches with gouges and stains. When we complained to management we were advised that the owner has purposely rented this unit as the "industrial" look. I have seen polished concrete floors and this was nothing like that. We were also advised that we were in the minority and many people actually requested this unit. I find that hard to believe. Also we had no water when we first arrived. When we asked how the unit had been cleaned if the there was no water we were advised that water from another unit was used to clean the floor in our unit but it had not been noted by the cleaning staff. The website had a full kitchen whereas we had a kitchenette with only just enough plates, cups etc. It is a pity about this unit because it is in a wonderful position right on the beach but it could certainly do with an upgrade. We realise units are individually owned and the pictures on the website are not representative of every unit but they should indicate the basics. We hope the owner of unit 11 takes this on board. Also be aware there is no airconditioning and it was very hot and muggy if you're planning to go in the summer months.

We rented 3 rooms in the far right complex. They are the only 3 units with air conditioning and at night in February we needed it because it was hot. The apartments are very clean, very big and very comfy and all have a big balcony with great views. We stayed here to be close to Manta Ray dive shop and to be right on their fabulous beach. Pool was clean and it was great to have a bus stop right out front to get us to Point Lookout. Each day the kookaburras would visit us on the railing of our balcony and the wildlife of koala and kangaroos at the North Gorge walk was incredible especially at sunset. The only 3 restaurants within walking distance was at the Bowls Club, Oasis and take out from the gas station. Surprisingly the gas station food was pretty good for a burger and the fries were great. The bowls club food was ok but the on tap beer was fantastic. Oasis was a little pricey but good. Our fav place to eat was the prawn shack in Point Lookout. Great subs and they have take away pizzas that you can cook at home. Fantastic! We loved Straddie Island and would definitely stay at Anchorage again.

Relaxing, peaceful & nice studio apartment (23) with balcony & good view over the ocean. Has everything you need to cook in kitchen. Bed was comfy & slept well, waking to the birds & gorgeous sunrise.
Lovely pool, located right on the beach, has a friendly accommodating manager

The resorts on site 'manager' is the reason I will never go back.
He is rude unhelpful has no manners arrogant and should NOT be doing this 'job'.
His attitude is disgraceful for somebody being in hospitality...
I would not even rate this resort nor would I recommend it,bc of this reason...thank you

Our first trip to Straddie and we were very happy that we chose Anchorage on Straddie. Beach front location is a gem. Great central location. Excellent for couples or families. Stan's Chicken Bar next door definitely worth a visit as is the Bowling Club a 4 minute stroll away.

We stayed at the Anchorage at the end of February 2015. The location of the hotel is very nice, only a short walk from the beautiful beach. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the quality of our 2 bedroom apartment as it was nothing like the images and floor plan shown on their website. Sliding doors to the balcony were rickety and old, and the sun lounger on the balcony was broken. The apartment was very dated (wall colours and carpets, and old furniture) although the kitchen and bathroom had been updated. The shower head was of very poor quality similar to that you might find at a campground or outdoor shower. There were no pictures on the walls or other fittings to give it a homey feel. We were visiting with a group and others had much nicer and more updated apartments than ours.
We felt ripped off for the price we paid and the expectation we had based on the images on the website. I feel it is poor advertising and very misleading to show images that do not reflect the quality of the rooms.

Just wondering if the pool is heated?
Answer from Anchorage O

The pool is not heated but holds a good temperature 10 months of the year as it is north facing and is heated by the sun. June & July we occasionally have guests swimming in the pool but they are normally from colder countries!

Wifi hasn't been upgraded however we did find that there was a fault in the telstra line which has been fixed. We offer free Wifi poolside. Some units have range from their balcony but not all units.
