About
Description
Recommended by Lonely Planet, and with a TripAdvisor 5-star rating, this Hawke's Bay, New Zealand property offers a restful rural location, half-way from Wairoa township to the fabulous Lake Waikaremoana (one of New More Zealand's Nine Great Walks). In addition to a choice of Continental, Asian, or your full cooked breakfast (including freshly-laid eggs), we provide evening meals, and for stays of two or more nights, lunches as well. Evening meals are NZ$50 per person, and include 3 courses, plus drinks. Super-King Sealy Posturepaedic beds assure a restful sleep after spending the day trout fishing at lake Waikaremoana, swinging in a hammock in our expansive garden, or resting on a lounger with a glass of wine in your hand .... Rooms: three rooms are available - two with Super Kings, and one with a Queen. A shared bathroom is dedicated to guests. A cot is available on request - please request the 'Orange Tree Room' if you intend to use a cot. Lake Waikaremoana is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, and the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the crystal clear waters of the central jewel of Te Urewera. Te Urewera is an enchanted land where the very land itself has been granted its own legal personality by the government of New Zealand through s11 of the Te Urewera Act 2014. The concept of te whenua (the land) being able to protect itself from those who would do it harm is an intriguing concept - one which resonates with many First Nations peoples and those who have an interest in eco-justice or protection of ecosystems and the environment generally. Consider staying two nights or more, and also take in the Mahia Peninsula (a renowned surfing area), Morere Hot Springs, and other scenic wonders of Wairoa district, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Please do not book this property if you require the very latest bathroom amenities or if you might be challenged by a fusion of 1960s Kiwi decor and 1760s Thai decor. The essence of this B&B is the warm hospitality that you will enjoy. Note: this is a strictly smoke-free property. Smoking is not permitted inside or outside. Less

We had just completed the Lake Waikaremoana walk and were looking forward to a quiet B & B to relax for a day afterwards. It came as a pleasant surprise to discover that Lake Road B & B is really a destination unto itself! It...More

Tri and Fergus were excellent hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and our stay exceeded our expectations. We had the Thai dinner on our second night and Tri is an excellent chef. The setting and surrounding area are lovely with lakes, beaches, forests and much...More

We only had one night, and I suggest more are needed to explore the area. We had a lovely welcome and a beautiful shared meal with Fergus and Tri. Our bed was super comfortable. The bathroom may be that of the original farmhouse, but it...More

Heavenly beds, comfortable rooms and porches for lounging, welcoming hosts, and great food. Tri graciously accommodated our arrival a day early on very short notice, and still was able to prepare us a delicious dinner. The second night we were joined by 2 other guests,...More

We arrived to a warm welcome from Fergus and Tri who showed us round the property. The house is beautifully furnished with Oriental furniture and we were happy(ish) with going along with the Thai(?) tradition of bare feet inside the house. Our room, however, was...More

Thanks for your feedback on your recent stay Wendy. We note that it is not solely a 'Thai' tradition to remove one's shoes before entering a rural New Zealand farmhouse, given the working farm surrounding Lake Road B&B, and the 300m driveway with stock as...More
