It's amazing when things just don't change......back again since our last review when my 13yo was only 6 and we only have 3 kids not 4 - its great to see that things just didn't change here at Las Olas. Back in building B302 - a quaint two bedroom updated after hurricane Odile in 2014 - the unit overlooks SJD sharing the same view as the lookout point just to the right of the balconies. The pool, grounds and facilities are always kept clean and I can't say enough about the staff.....everyone is so helpful and kind. While the trucks continue to travel down the highway and their air brakes can occasionally be heard as they turn the corner - all that is negated by the fact we are right on the surf....and beach - a huge plus for my family of water babies. FYI some units (not all) come with surf locker and/or a SUP board locker. B302 has both which is a definite plus for those intending on renting a board for a few days. We will definitely be back - and won't wait as long........
It was a very well maintained complex. Not very spread out. It would have been a 5 rating except for one thing, the highway. It is "right there". There were times the highway noise would drown out the ocean waves. View was great, everything was clean and kept up. Security was great. Overall I would stay there again.
We planned a last minute trip to San Jose del Cabo in January 2017. As we booked so late there were few condo options available in the area that were on the water. We stayed in B502 for a week. The condo itself was as advertised, clean and had everything that we needed to cook meals at home. We had never been to SJDC before, and we decided that in the end we enjoy Hawaii much better or the Central Coast of California as we enjoy quiet and fresh air. :-)
The grounds are immaculately maintained. The garden person was out before sunrise each morning raking the flower beds, watering, and getting all of the furniture ready for the day. It was never crowded while we were there. The pool and hottubs were clean the day we arrived (Wednesday) and became cloudy as the days progressed, more than likely from sunscreen, but we did not risk. The day we left (Wednesday) we saw someone finally checking chemicals, etc.
The positive of this property is the proximity to the water and the fact that it is not a resort. There was available parking at all times and there was security 24/7 and we always felt safe.
The major downside of Las Olas is also the location. Literally next to the 4-lane main highway on a downhill curve. There was constant noise 24/7. Even on the days when the wind blew in off the sea it did not quiet it. I am up all night and sleep during the day, so I can vouch that it never gets quiet. The bedrooms are on the highway side and my husband cranked an online radio station to be able to sleep. I slept on the sofa couch, so that I could hear the waves a bit. It most definitely was not a restful trip and we were not warned about the noise from the management company. There were times that we could not hear each other speak while sitting on the balcony. Also, if you have any sensitivity to air pollution and car exhaust it is horrific, almost as bad as we have in Denver. Definitely not refreshing sea air.
If quiet and clean air are not a priority for you, then this is a fantastic place to stay. For example, if I was in my 20's instead of 40's. :-)
As someone else just shared, if heading toward the condo from the east (San Jose del Cabo) you have to go up to the Palmilla exit to make a u-turn and head back. There is a really good large grocery store, La Comer, that is close to the condo (about a half mile) that has a McDonald's and other American fast food around it if needed. However, we found a lot of really good family owned restaurants in our excursions.
We stayed in #301 and it was just fantastic. The view was great, the surf was fun and the restaurant nearby called Zippers was full of delicious food and deadly strong margaritas. The aircon worked well, the only downside was that there was still some post hurricane repairs going on, and the need to go all the way to Palmilla to turn around when driving from the east.
This is a very nice small condo complex. It is not a resort with all the amenities. The pool was beautiful and clean. The view from the balcony was very nice. We were there for New Years eve and could see many different fire works right from our balcony.
