I can imagine that people reading this review will be surprised by the 4* review with all the negatives i have but it really is a pretty good place and I might stay there again or recommend it to the right people. We had booked a "ocean front" cabana and were initially shown to a small and very simple hut...

You have the amazing turquoise ocean on one side and the green mangroves jungle on the other side of the resort. Details are the best part of the decoration, everything was extremely clean, amenities included organic honey body soap, and the restaurant had great (but limited) choices for all meals. Special thanks to the reception manager who helped us solve...

PPP is a very unusual place right on the beach. They offer different price ranges and different levels of palapas depending on how much you want to pay and the amenities you need. The grounds have been kept unspoiled and still a jungle feel to them but not in an unsafe way at all. Many palapas have views of the...

The room was small but I am not complaining, we were looking for something like that. The hotel is very cool, you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle. The food was delicious, everything we ordered was perfect. The receptionist I have to say wasn't helpful AT ALL, she is I think from Argentina or Uruguay (from...

We stayed in a little cabana in the middle of the jungle, all the room has was a bed a chair and the bathroom. Although staying there was quite an experience and I appreciate it for what it was, i must say that the first night we spend at the place we found a HUGE scorpion near the palm roof,...

The Hotel itself is fantastic, we were in a basic room which suited us very well. There was a spot on the beach most days and the staff were above and beyond friendly. The food was good for a few days but we couldn't have eaten there all week. We didn't go to the full moon party but could see...

My wife and I came to Tulum for our one year/honeymoon celebrations. Having just spent a week in Louisiana, we were looking forward to some hot weather, relaxation and healthy food (one can only eat so many Po' Boys before you really start to hate them). Arriving at Papaya, we instantly knew we had made the right decision. The venue...

Papaya Playa Project is amazing. It was the perfect backdrop for our group of friends to enjoy a long weekend together. Every year, our group of 40 somethings make the time to carve out a weekend and celebrate our friendship. This year, we looked for something new because our old venue was no longer happening (TomorrowWorld, Atlanta). We were looking...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Introducing, PAPAYA PLAYA, A DESIGN HOTELS™ PROJECT hitting Tulum, Mexico from December 6, 2011 to late 2012. Having sought far and wide for a place to create an authentic, nurturing experience, the 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise cocooned on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera was the perfect spot. Together with Emilio Heredia, owner of the existing Papaya Playa beach bungalow resort, Design Hotels™ is initiating the ultimate pop-up camp. Claus Sendlinger explains: “Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally-rooted experience and we couldn’t have dreamed up a better place to make this happen. Capitalizing on the natural environment and multicultural character of Tulum, we quickly put together an international team of real visionaries, each enriching the experience with their own food, music, design or wellness concept. The enthusiasm and creative energy of everyone involved enabled us to renovate the camp and put together a holistic program within a very short period of time.” So come December, the authentic-pleasure seekers have a new raw-luxe camp they can sink and rub their feet into. Eighty-five cabañas have been renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team. Integrating local materials and building techniques, they encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces while the perception of small indulgences – like high thread count sheets, flowing mosquito nets and thick towels – is heightened. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabañas, is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests into sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm. ... more   less
