Ahau Tulum By Ahau Collection is a hotel that has garnered recognition for its rooms that blend rustic elegance with stunning ocean views, despite some visitors noting their compact size and issues with sand and cleanliness. The hotel's cleanliness receives accolades for its well-kept grounds and immaculate beach, while the amenities, including beachfront yoga sessions, contribute to a serene atmosphere that guests adore.
Service at Ahau Tulum is often described as outstanding, with a staff that's both attentive and welcoming. While the location is a hit among guests for its proximity to Tulum Beach, some feel the high costs do not always equate to value.

The place is picturesque. I loved staying here. The rooms were clean and so was the bedding. The staff is incredibly nice and har working. If you are staying there you have access to they beach front cabanas, first come first serve. The staff will make question you if they see you laying there and they dont know if you're staying in their huts. The beach is on the calmer side which is nice and allows you to go a little deeper. The water is really clean. The sand is soft. The food is over priced for the quantity they give you. Their ceviche is REALLY good. There is a jug of water in the room which helps but cold water is available for purchase. The scenery is calm and peaceful. It is a delight. There are several greek restaurants in the area. The bbq spot across the street has a really good bbq sandwich and its more on the affordable side compared to everything else in the area.

Ahau Tulum is the perfect place to escape and reconnect with nature. The eco-friendly vibe and beautiful beachfront setting made me feel instantly relaxed. I loved the mix of rustic charm and comfort in the accommodations—I stayed in one of the ocean-view suites, and waking up to the sound of the waves was magical. The food was also amazing; the fresh dishes at Ahau Restaurant and the plant-based options at Raw Love Café were some of the best meals I’ve had in Tulum. The yoga classes and cacao ceremony added a really special touch to the experience. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat where you can slow down and recharge, Ahau Tulum is the place to be. It left me feeling so refreshed and inspired—I can’t wait to go back!

I took my mother, sister, and daughter here for Mother’s Day. We slept in a beachfront villa which was very serene. Staff were helpful and kind. I liked the fact that anytime room cleaners came to clean they were supervised by security. I also liked the convenience of valet parking considering the resort is on a busy street. We spent most of all our days and nights on excursions so we only ate breakfast at their Raw Love Cafe. The Raw Love Cafe makes the best chai matcha and shroom brew lattes. Their avocado toast and peanut butter, banana, strawberry, and cacao toast was delicious as well. I really appreciate the fact they are 100% plant base and organic. The highlight of my stay was our last night. I booked a private Temazcal ceremony for just my daughter and I. It was expensive but worth every penny. It was such an unique therapeutic experience. It definitely provided us with an immense sense of peace and relaxation. Our ceremony was led by a phenomenal woman named Floresser- I can only speak on her ceremony which i highly recommend. Please note you can do their public ones which are much cheaper. I believe they only take place one day a week. Unfortunately, the only grievance I have is we weren’t able to flush toilette paper which is not the resorts fault. I believe in most, if not all of Mexico, you can’t flush toilette paper; their septic system can’t handle it. I definitely prefer luxury vacation so if I had known that I probably would not have went, so Im glad I didn’t know bc then U wouldn’t have experienced the Temazcal ceremony. They do have housekeepers going around frequently to discard the toilette paper that you are suppose to throw in waste basket, instead of flushing. I just couldn’t fathom the thought of putting dirty tissue in the trash so we just went to the public restroom, which was very clean, anytime we had to do a number two. Lastly, we did a lot of excursions while in Mexico which I have shared to my Instagram @angela_ethnictraveler you can find my entire trip in my highlights titled Mexico and Mexico pt2. If you have any questions feel free to inbox me. Oh and I wouldn’t buy any gifts on this strip. I found when we went to Akumal Beach the prices were profoundly less cheaper!!!

We had a Junior Suite Beachfront (Top Level) for 4 nights without meals or additional service, generally much too expensive for what it is! The staff is a bit snooty and seems to be money-fixated. You feel constantly watched, especially in the empty restaurant and on the beach. The housekeeping was loveless: no fresh towels, no clean, stained bathrobes & linen, no vacuuming. In addition, no hairdryer or other utensils in the bathroom, only shampoo and shower gel. Water pressure was very low, and the air conditioning was switched off without warning from 10 a.m. Beer on the beach cost €7 for 0.33l, and every 2 minutes beach vendors, even directly on the sunbeds, even toddlers came. In the rain, water penetrated through the balcony door to the bed. The fashionable woody smell from the wardrobe was unpleasant. Scooter rentals were also suddenly raised from $60 to $70, although nearby landlords only charge $35. The Tulum vibe, however, is given by the atmosphere and decor. The beautiful sea views and the clean beach save the experience somewhat – altogether a disappointment.

The attention of the staff. Sergio especially exceeds expectations. They had the detail of bringing a dessert and singing to my friend about celebrating her birthday. The food is delicious and along with the attention provided I give them a 100 for quality. It has a small pool and is located in front of the sea. The mixed bathrooms have showers so it is a great option to have breakfast or lunch without having to stay and enjoy the beauty of the beach.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at Ahau for 5 days. The whole place, but especially our Top Floor Oceanview Suite room was a gem. The views were absolutely beautiful and you get an ocean breeze basically all day. Ulises at the front desk was so beyond kind to us from the moment we arrived and he went above and beyond to make sure our trip was memorable. He also set up our transportation from the airport for us making it an incredibly easy trip to and from. We had Sergio as a server every day for breakfast, and he was so kind as well. He remembered our names and orders every day, so it felt like we established a small, little home away from home in just 5 short days. Another perk of Ahau is that it is basically the only place that takes care of the seaweed on the beach leaving the sand looking fresh and clean. The Raw Love bar is so convenient right on the beach for drinks when you need them but all of the servers on the beach were amazing too. Lots of restaurants within walking distance from the place too! At night, the clubs nearby can get noisy with music, so take earplugs. With earplugs, it didn't affect our sleep at all. 10/10 for kindness and just genuinely good vibes at this place. Would highly recommend Ahau if you are going to travel to Tulum.

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful location. The restaurants and sitting areas are relaxing with amazing views of the ocean. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We loved Sergio and Dennis who would remember everyone’s name from day 1 and greet you with their friendly smiles. The front desk helped to arrange tours and drivers. Tip - getting a taxi to cenotes or the ruins can cost $150 usd. Hire a car if you can. Everything in Tulum is very expensive. Rooms are large and have most amenities you need. You can ask for a fridge if you need. We didn’t hear any noise late at night. We had hot water whenever needed and rooms were tended to 2x per day. It’s very hot here and burn time is very short. There are covered beds for those in master suites. The beach staff will not let you have 2 umbrellas with other sun beds even if you are a family of 4. This is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. You shouldn’t restrict umbrellas. If it’s windy (often) they can’t put up the umbrellas and it’s almost impossible to sit out in the full sun without them. The ocean can get pretty rough so not good for young kids, but fun for older kids and adults. Overall a great experience. Hotel is right next to all the restaurants.

Dear Nicky, Thank you very much for choosing us for your last vacation in Tulum and recognize the effort of the whole team to provide an excellent stay to all who visit us. On the other hand, we regret not having enough umbrellas during your stay. It is correct that we had an equipment shortage and we could not replace them in time, during that short period we tried hard to distribute them as best we could while the new equipment was arriving. I hope that if you come back to Tulum you will visit us again and enjoy some better days at the beach with all the shade you need (the first drink will be on us!). We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Really disappointed with how much was spent I went with husband and two sons who are the age of 24 and 18 Let’s start with arriving…. At the entrance you are greeted with staff coming out with taxi who DIDNT direct us where to go you have to find the office finally I met with letty who by far is the nicest staff member who held a smile and accommodated us by booking reservations while we were there Let’s start with because we were a total of 4 the room really doesn’t have space for cloths by the way we were there 6 days Staff there was only two draws no privacy and 1 mirror which was located in the bathroom Bathroom: OMG there was a basket with an open lid to dispose toilet paper which was soiled so the stench was terrible after one day I had to remove it from my room and ask someone to please clean You have to ask for towels and with beach front access doors and the hotel literally is a barefoot hotel so please remember if going to dinner shoes are getting full of sand…you can’t imagine the sand that was in our room no broom they never mopped sheets always had sand we tried everything staff really doesn’t take the time to be sure room is clean Every morning there was people sleeping in hammocks who were not security and or staff when addressed they said they had no control and were trying to do everything possible to make a safer environment. With currency changing daily staff really tried to get over the American dollar only a few staff members really nice oh I forgot to mention no hot water after a certain period and also the wood planks were loose in the shower and also had an order No tv which I was ok with but in order for you to reach room service you have to what’s app because there are no phone lines Not a place for kids and teens NO one cares what’s being sold or offered to kids so beware! Def not a place I would again and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who is looking to relax The hotel close to our plays house music 24hours m serious they do so you are hearing a faint bass throughout the night expect to pay 60 American dollars for two drinks My husband and I stayed sober because we had to make sure the kids were safe and be alert just in case

Response from Carla Sandoval, Guest Services / Front Office at Ahau Tulum By Ahau Collection
Responded 5 May 2024
Dear Camper, We are very sorry that you and your family did not enjoy your week with us, it’s clear to us that everyone who visit us have made an effort to travel to this beautiful destination and all they want is to have a good time. However, there are multiple things you mention that we pride ourselves on, such as not having TV nor telephone in room, as well as being a barefoot hotel. The original concept of the hotel and the legacy of Ahau founder is to be able to provide connection with the surrounding and the place we are located, being the beach and nature the main ingredients. This is also why many of our systems are environmentally friendly and less elaborate than a resort, which makes us take different measures than these large buildings that are more invasive with the environment (such as not depositing toilet paper in the toilet). We are well aware that many of these things will not be the favorite part all the public, but we are proud of what we have, and we continue to improve day by day to be better, but without forgetting our roots. I reiterate that we really regret not having been the ideal place to spend your family vacation and that all your comments are very valuable for us and improve every day to offer the best stays to all our guests. Nothing would make us happier than to be able to satisfy all those who visit us and place their trust in us, however, there are things that are beyond our control and yet we try to fight for these circumstances are a less harmful for the good of all (our customers and ourselves). I hope that in the future if you decide to return to Tulum, if we are not the ideal hotel, perhaps one of our beautiful sister hotels can meet your needs and those of your family. Cordially yours,

Ahau has a really cool outdoor set up. The main building is really beautiful with a sculptural wall, antique rugs and lounging couches. The restaurant and service are fantastic. Beach area has a really cool vibe and they keep up with clearing the sargassum each day. Sit in Reyes section at the beach and he will take care of everything you need! The only negative is the rooms are not on par with the rooms at other hotels in this price point. They are more similar to the ocean front rooms we’ve stayed at Tulum hotels for $300/night. The rooms are smaller than they look in the picture ( not even enough room/storage for 2 people to unpack) and the ac is only on during limited hours and never really gets that cold. Probably fine in December, but a bummer in July. The rooms are fine, but since we splurged and paid $700/night, I was kinda disappointed when I walked in. Also, not really Ahau’s fault but electronic dance music was playing til 3-5 in the morning from the next door beach clubs, so if you don’t like EMD and want a quiet retreat, this may not be the place for you. Overall we still had an enjoyable stay. The staff is really friendly, great food and the main areas are beautiful!

Not sure if the Jr Suite is different from the "palapa" although the website does call it a palapa. I think it's just describing the thatch roofs which unless you are on the bottom of a two story setup, all the rooms have the vaulted rooms. I know our room (Jr. Suite) had a King and was pretty close to the entrance where the maintenance area was. We didn't experience anything negative because of that though. Hope this helps.
Hi, there are room ACs in all of the rooms. They shut them down if you leave them on when you leave the room, other that that you control the AC as you wish. Yes, there were outlets in the room. I don't remember how many but we definitely had them. Bathrooms are not shared plus there are additional bathrooms by the lobby. Hope this helped. Have fun!
