Azulik Tulum is often celebrated for its serene, nature-harmonizing atmosphere and storybook charm, though the experience can come with comfort trade-offs. While the hotel's architecture captivates many guests, some find its uniqueness overshadowed by service inconsistencies, ranging from commendable concierge efforts to issues with basic amenities. Cleanliness and maintenance receive mixed reactions, with certain visitors highlighting the eco-friendly approach, while others point out oversights. Despite its tranquil location, reviewers frequently question the value, citing high costs that don't necessarily align with the quality of services and facilities provided.

The premise here is a must: crazy location for the structure and the first thing to know is that you pay a lot for this alone.
We decided to go both for the aperitif on the terrace and for dinner, choosing the Japanese restaurant, it was a very nice experience as you don't see such architecture, in the middle of the forest, every day. Everything is made of wood with suspended bridges and nets, the shapes are in harmony with the surrounding nature and the furnishings are cared for down to the smallest detail.
The dinner was delicious and the staff were attentive and kind.
Highly recommended for those who don't want to spare any expense.
For us it was worth it.

We loved it! We booked four nights for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint. It was truly a different experience (which we wanted) and found the service to be amazing. The Angels (concierge team) were super responsive at all times. They had contacts for rentals (they brought an atv to our hotel). We did not eat at the big restaurants but enjoyed time at the beach club, the mezcal club, and the rooftop (which was our favorite). They provided water everyday and the candlelit room at night was magical. The area around the hotel is very walkable and there are many restaurants (not a big party scene). It’s close to the town (you can take an atv, car or bike.

My stay at Azulik has been a mixed experience. Before arriving, I noticed several negative reviews on Booking.com, especially concerning cleanliness. However, when I checked into my room, it was clean—though being in a jungle setting, some dry leaves and bugs are naturally present. This is part of the environment here, so if you’re expecting a pristine, modern setup, it may not be for you.

Comfort-wise, I found the stay lacking. While Azulik is designed for adults, it wasn’t as comfortable as expected. Navigating to the room was quite confusing, and while they promote it as part of the concept, it felt more inconvenient than immersive. Additionally, the beach is not private or even semi-private, as outside visitors, including children, can access it.

Regarding service, the receptionist did not provide a welcoming first impression, lacking the warmth and approachability you’d hope for upon arrival. However, the hostesses who escorted us to the room and stayed in touch via WhatsApp were pleasant and helpful. The WhatsApp communication with the staff is convenient, though it wasn’t consistently responsive or reassuring, especially when we faced a power outage that lasted 3-4 hours. The intense heat and humidity made this incident quite uncomfortable, and the hotel’s response was limited, leaving us unsure of what steps to take.

Overall, Azulik offers a unique, jungle-centric experience that might appeal to those specifically looking for that ambiance. However, I believe there are other hotels in the area that could offer a more comfortable and well-rounded experience if you’re looking for a mix of comfort, reliable amenities, and consistent service.

My husband and I stayed at Azulik Tulum in November 2024, visiting for our honeymoon. Despite the many incredible images, videos and testimonies from influencers reviewing the hotel, I can honestly say I have not stayed in a worse hotel in my entire life. If you value basic necessities like running water, working toilet facilities, electricity, and staff that care if you live or die, I suggest you steer clear of this place.
I was fully aware that this stay would be something different and was ready to throw myself into the low tech, jungle setting. However, from the moment we arrived, electricity and water would shut off inexplicably for hours at a time. This meant that we were unable to shower, use the toilet, or even sleep comfortably due to the lack of air conditioning or fan.
As power continued to sporadically fail across the next 24 hours, we received no proactive updates from staff about when (or if) the power would be restored. I spoke to three different staff members, each of whom offered no solutions, no alternatives, no information and no empathy. This lack of communication was not only frustrating but unacceptable—particularly when their website promises amenities like Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and comfortable facilities. None of these were available to us during our stay.
When I reached out to the front desk and later their staff via WhatsApp to express my concerns and ask for a resolution, their response was appalling. After enduring conditions akin to a budget campsite in the woods, I informed them we would be cutting our stay short and asked if they would be able to offer some money back for the three nights that I would no longer be staying there. Instead of offering any understanding or taking immediate action, I was told, "No refunds," with the excuse that the power outage was "out of their control". The manager, they claimed, would be updating us with “compensation,” but that turned out to be a hollow promise.
Their final response was "We can't give you any kind of refund or compensation," they said, "because electricity is not something we can control." This was not a citywide outage; it was a problem within their own property, and yet they offered zero solutions, alternatives, or even a gesture of goodwill. Their apology was a textbook example of how to do everything wrong in customer service.
There was no empathy for the fact that this was our honeymoon, a special time we had been looking forward to for months. Instead, we were met with indifference and a refusal to make things right.
Azulik may look like paradise, but in reality, it is a poorly managed, overhyped disaster. For a hotel charging a premium price, basic hospitality—like providing electricity, water, and functional facilities—is not optional. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go elsewhere. If you choose to ignore this advice, just know you’re in for a serious disappointment.

I came to Azulik with my oldest son for his graduation gift. What was supposed fo be a beautiful time became a nightmare when we were at the hotel. The first room we stayed didn’t have a shower, the air conditioning over the bed was broked. The staff made us feel we were doing a favor by staying in that decadent hotel. Since they don’t give refund I payed extra 400 and something USD a night (plus the 300 I had already payed). The other room was not much better but at least we could have a cold shower. I needed to ask for the room to be cleaned everyday otherwise they just “forgotten” to ask for this. What made me wonder why do they have a concierge for? The towels were old and stained as were the bed sheets. There’s no electricity and I also had to plead for them to light the candles every night. Everything was dirty and the mirror in the room broked. For 1 thousand dollars a night it was not only abusive but they social media is far from the reality of the place. The sink’s and shower was salty and the pool outside the room dirty. Everything was over charged. The drinks, the food, everything. The service at the beach bar was equally awful. Nobody ever came to assist us. The staff doesn’t look at the guests so I had to walk ro order the food every time. We stayed for 8 nights. When I kindly complained with the manager called Sidarta he said he was gonna give me 150USD for me to use in the hotel where a simple massage costs almost 300 dollars! Clearly they are broke and people who lives in Tulum seems to know it. I was talking to a person in a very good boutique in town and she told me her friend worked 3 months at Azulik and was not payed for her work. I could write so much more… but to sum up, I travel all over the world since I was 3 years old. I’ve been to most of Europe, all over the US, Africa and last year I went twice to Southeast Asia (Camboja, Singapore, Bali, Vietnam and Pallawan Philippines) in 5 stars hotels with wonderful service and amenities. Oh, by the way Azulik doesn’t have a pool and the private beach is small and rocky. And I never saw a life guard there. Not once. Well, the advice I can give here is stay away from this place. It’s far from being a holistic place. Not even the sunset at the rooftop worth a visit. Terrible, dirty and overpriced place.

Azulik is a striking architectural masterpiece, rooms and resort both. Staying here felt like a privilege and I wouldn't miss it. I can't score it less than 5*.

The Concierge team can't do enough for you via WhatsApp and everything we requested was actioned very quickly.

I had a sneak peek of the new bar area that they're building on the beach and it looks really great.

The Elixik breakfasts were fantastic. I have more mixed feelings about Kin'Toh and Tseen Ja but I'll review them separately. It wouldn't be the worst thing to give them a miss especially for the super high price IMHO BUT do go for a cocktail at the free entry (if you're a guest) sunset experience on the Kin'Toh rooftop.

I think there were a few minor niggles and a few misconceptions about the room that were hard to clear up beforehand, I've listed them here.

**Niggles:**
- WiFi wasn't working in the rooms, only communal spaces, during my stay
- When you're at the venue the concierge is amazing but the pre-arrival experience is *dreadful*. Emails can go unanswered for a week or more, I think I had to chase them just to take payment off me, and I booked in plenty of time. This is an area where they could really improve, because I certainly had a lot of questions - no real extra stay information is provided as part of booking, which I would have expected. Even just getting booking confirmation was a challenge.
- Privacy is pretty abominable, there are no curtains only kind of bamboo shutters in the room, with gaps. On the terrace we could be seen by people on neighbouring terraces. You're just about out of sight in bed behind the mosquito netting. This was kind of a fun game for us in the end, can you shower or dress without flashing the neighbours, but I can see it not being some people's bag.
- No hairdryer is provided

I can be a fairly critical person so having only those few minor niggles is pretty impressive in my book.

**Misconceptions:**
- Rooms have glass windows and doors and very effective air conditioning.
- In our Sea Villa (34) at least there was technically only a bath but it was filled by a huge overhead shower head, so it was basically a shower too. Some confusion was had when we thought the rooms were bath only.
- There is a dim electric light in the center of the room, and in the toilet area. It's not always candles only at night. In fact we had to ask for no candles as they aggravated my cough and it was fine.
- There's a double power socket in the room and one on the terrace, which was more than we needed.
- There's a normal hotel safe in the room

Dear HOTEL AZULIK

I am writing to you as a regular customer of your establishment, which I have always enjoyed and recommended to family and friends. However, I have recently had a disappointing experience that I would like to share with you so that it can be addressed and improved.

On my last visit to the hotel, I witnessed a marked decline in the quality of service from the staff. The incorporation of new staff that does not live up to the prestige of the AZULIK hotel has negatively affected the guest experience. For example, the presence at reception of a man who does not have the profile to receive guests, with unprofessional treatment, and the new butlers are also not up to par with hotels of this category. Likewise, the new policy of turning off the boilers at night limits the comfort of guests who wish to bathe later in the day, especially in rooms like the “Moon” which is the only one we visited.

Additionally, I would like to point out that the butler assigned to our room did not honor our requests in a timely or appropriate manner. Their lack of response and attention to our needs was disappointing and contrary to the expectations I have when staying at their hotel.

As if that were not enough, I was surprised by the reduction in the amenities previously offered. Previously, we were greeted with a bottle of champagne as a courtesy, however, on this occasion we were greeted with a bottle of tequila with a clear notice that its consumption implied an additional charge.
And the included couples massage was denied to us because we arrived 10 minutes late and they asked us to sign as if we had taken it. It really saddens me at the level of staff they now have in charge :(

As someone who has appreciated and valued the excellence of your hotel, I am concerned to see how recent changes in service and policies may negatively impact guests' experience. I sincerely appreciate your attention to this matter and trust that corrective action will be taken to restore the level of quality and professionalism that I have always associated with your brand.

I thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to your comments on this matter.

The place is beautiful, wonderful, but missed the main touch: the famous and old good reception.
We felt just another one staying in the famous hotel Azulik...
Minutes are counted for your accommodation: entry and exit, but when it is for you to use the benefits contracted, it is not worth much.
The time of arrival at the hotel is 15:00, we were entitled to a welcome ritual... but at that time, the staff had gone to lunch. We know and respect the staff who work at the hotel, and who have to do their schedules, but this in particular I think it was incongruent to what they offer us... if we can only enter at 15, this should not be the scheduled time for lunch. The yoga teacher was delayed 30 minutes because of the rain, we delayed the coffee and to arrange things to leave the room, but for no hour they were empathic the situation as a whole. It rains, a lot happens, but only we felt affected by the changes, for them, everything had to stay in order of delivery.
The staff of the facilities always very serious and all the time doing their job asking room number and also to see the bracelet, as if we were invaders of the place. I agree very much that you have to have security... but "the how" is done, it creates a good or bad experience (in case, it was very bad). It could be done with more lightness and sympathy on the part of the team. In the Kintoh restaurant, you don't even talk... people don't smile, the food is ok, but for not a minute it's worth the price of being there... and it's not worth the experience of eating that. Zero attention from the waiter, who in the details, left much to be desired... did not bring our water, one of our coffee was missing... I leave the tip that it does not pay to take the coffee along with the hotel reservation, in fact, nor do I recommend eating in this place. There are many amazing places in Boca Paila that offer breakfast with spectacular service and wonderful and full food, and with the same status pattern.
Of course to be impeccable with our word, we have to leave the thanks to Luis, who welcomed us and was our angel, super amazing and the staff of the staff who took care of our suitcase and our car too. The yoga teacher was also very nice and the place to do yoga is beautiful!
Our room had a beautiful view, the bed was perfect, pillows very good, spacious and had drinking water at our disposal! It had shower, air conditioning and hot water. (our room was the Sky Villa - very beautiful)
But the bath and sink water were salt and when we went, it was raining and raining in the room, including in the bed. Bathing products, shampoo, conditioner and soap were not of very good quality.

We went with apprehension after some of the reviews here. But from the moment we entered we were very well received by Vladimir. He gave us a fantastic upgrade to a beautiful sea villa. We knew in advance that we were not going to stay in a classic hotel (no electricity, back to nature) and were pleasantly surprised at how well this was all arranged. There were 2 sockets, air conditioning, glass in the windows and a safe in the room, there is only a bath and no shower, but there is a shower hose in the bath to rinse yourself with. It is salty water but that did not bother us, we were given enough bottled water to brush our teeth.
Every morning we woke up we felt like we were in paradise, everything was finished with so much class. Congratulations to the entire team. We will definitely come back.
Oh and the monkey on the terrace was a nice extra 😎

We recently stayed at Azulik and unfortunately, it was a thoroughly disappointing experience. From the moment we checked in, it was evident that this hotel falls short in several key areas.Firstly, the cleanliness of the room left much to be desired. We found the rooms beyond dirty and lacking basic. It was clear that the housekeeping standards were subpar.Additionally, the amenities promised on the website were either nonexistent or severely lacking. The Wi-Fi connection was unreliable at best, making it nearly impossible to get any work done. There was not a proper table or chair or any power outlet for people to even be able to charge or have a coffee in the room. There was not even a single coffee machine in the room. Furthermore, the customer service was lackluster. The staff seemed indifferent to guests' needs and were unresponsive to requests for assistance. It was evident that they lacked proper training in hospitality and guest relations.

The prices were over the roof for the restaurants and overall food for the quality and portions they were offering. As hotel guests we weren’t even able to enjoy or access any of the beautiful areas of the hotel without being chased by security and stuff making us feel like intruders. Overall, my stay at Azulik was a regrettable experience. I would strongly advise against booking a room here unless significant improvementsi are made in terms of cleanliness, amenities, and customer service.

When we went, the water was full of algae and it honestly was not swimmable at that moment in time. It was like a carpet was floating on top of the water. I was hoping for it to drift away but it didn’t happen while we were there. But other than that, i think it’s a swimmable beach.

"The restaurants in the hotel are very expensive, for a true authentic Mexican cuisine, we recommend venturing into downtown Tulum."

"The jungle atmosphere and perhaps the spa is the only real reason to VISIT for a few hours, at best. Not worth the overnight stay."
