I have been to Maya Tulum twice, though I must admit it's the only resort in Tulum I've been to. But why mess with perfection?
We stayed at beach-side palapas both times, they accommodated us with 3 beds the 2nd time. On the beach is farther from the road so quieter. Rooms are clean, enough hot/warm water in showers, food is delish, fresh and plenty, and love that ginger tea always available. Spa treatments are great, excursions fun & safe, great guides. Rooms are good size, separate toilet area, shower some have bathtubs, nets over the beds, few chairs & small table, large water dispenser of purified water for drinking & brushing teeth refilled every day. Decent wifi in the restaurant, and clean beach, nice lounge chairs, and the staff are all so nice, helpful, friendly. They even bought feminine products for a guest to save them the taxi ride! Yoga classes are very good, like the variety of teachers. We even had a movie night in the yoga room. We were there in November 2015 and January 2019. They used to provide airport transport, but not the 2nd time. They arranged it for us but was more expensive than if we booked ourselves. The 2nd time we were there for birthdays, and the head chef made me a small cake & hugs, so lovely. Up the road is the area with some shops a quick walk. A great getaway to unwind.

With a friend we stayed in Mayatulum hotel for a weekend of July 20-22. The sea was very clean, no seaweed at all, we spent hours swimming. The beach is private. At night turtles come to lay their eggs, the hotel protects the nests until the babies hatch, Cabanas are top notch, comfortable, air conditioned, clean, enough space. We had ocean front and it was amazing to hear the waves and have a panoramic sea view. The manager, Barbara Vargas, was so welcoming, nice and helpful. She helped with all our requests, she greeted us at our arrival and was there to say goodbye when we were leaving. We only stayed 2 nights, but returned as if we had a 10 day vacation. We even saw a turtle one early morning, on her way back to the sea. Highly recommended.

BEAUTIFUL HUTS! The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the hut we stayed in was very aesthetic. It was a beautiful space. There was AC (clutch in the June humidity), smart tv, and our own mini pool. There's still construction but it didn't bother us much (the whole other side of the hotel is still under construction/developing). Pool is very nice but in construction zone (for now) so no bathrooms around there.
For location - it's at the beginning of the strip so it is not walkable to where more shops/restaurants are located further down the strip (about an hour walk - and in the June heat/humidity wasn't possible for us). Renting a bike is $20 usd per day - a bit pricey if you ask me! Taxis are extremely expensive (negotiate down as low as you can as possible).

We stayed here twice, Oct 2021 and Mar 2022, under old and new ownership. With change of the ownership in Jan 2022, everything changed in that hotel. So watch out when your booking says it includes ‘breakfast’, it’s only ‘continental’, which they forget to mention and only tell you the first morning of your vacation. It’s literally toast and fruit. Everything else like any type eggs, cappuccino or just hot water for a tea costs extra and is quite expensive, e. g. an omelet is $20 CAD! . Used to be all you can eat buffet. If you like black tea, make sure to bring your own tea bags, never any there! Room service is ok, but only the first 3 days, after that our room was hardly ever cleaned.
When mentioned at the reception we were brushed off and no one was able to help or pass on to management. I wrote an email afterwards to the hotel and never got a reply.
Unfortunately a bad sign that guests spend their money but don’t get good service in return.

Don’t stay at this hotel!!!! Reflection ponds were mosquito infested and filled with stagnant water and moss. Rooms have no phones, emergency lock didn’t work, no flushing any paper products in toilet, stinky seaweed everywhere on beach at least two feet high. Smell was so bad you couldn’t enjoy pool or beach. Only ventilation in bathroom is window screens, no glass windows. This poses a very big problem when all of your paper products from going to the bathroom is going into the trash can in the bathroom. Mysterious knocking on door at 2:30 am, but no one there. All amenities at the hotel close at 6:30 pm. Housekeeping is only done from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Water in bathroom sink is saltwater. We were supposed to stay 3 nights but only stayed one. Hotel would not refund money for the other two nights. We did not feel safe at this hotel and didn’t feel the hotel was worth the cost.

We stayed at Maya Tulum and everything was amazing. This is Mexico and this is a beach resort based on nature wellness and simplicity. If you want luxury please go elsewhere. I communicated with the staff before arriving and all of my questions were answered by the amazing staff. Edgar, Gilbert and the staff were amazing. The breakfast was great and you could order omelets if you wanted for a nominal fee. The lighting in the bathroom is soft but there are mirrors placed strategically outside the bungalows which is really cool. I had fun doing my makeup outside. The pool is peaceful and although the property was under construction we could not tell. Know what you want before booking and you won't be dissatisfied. I will definitely return
Thank you all for everything. Heaven on earth for a great price. Thank you everyone and see you soon Aciel!!

I went on a solo trip to Tulum for only 3 days and had a wonderful stay in the hotel. Service was amazing and had a beautiful room. The hotel is underrenovation but most hotel in the are because its low season. That is why the cheap rate. The views are amazing and the food was great. The only bad part was the seaweed but hey the whole beach had seaweed its not their fault. I rented a bike in their hotel that was extra $20 the day you can find it cheaper other place but since I was traveling solo I wanted the comfort that I can leave it overnight there without a worry. My room was in a great location so I can't complain didn't here anything at all at night.

This is a boutique hotel on the beach. Our room was a cabana that was beachfront with a king size bed. The patio was surrounded by bushes which restricted the view of the beach a bit but also provided privacy. The sound of the waves serenaded us to sleep each night. The room needs additional lighting. The room and bathroom only have mood lighting. Only two small bottles of water are provided each day. The bathroom window has a permanent opening which let mosquitoes in over night.

The beach is beautiful with nice chairs and a lovely sandy beach with easy entry to the water. The beach was not crowded on our visit. In high season, the number of chairs may be an issue.

The service throughout was odd. Staff are friendly but not forthcoming. One evening upon a visit to the bar just after 10pm, we were told they were closing in 10 minutes and were reluctant to serve us a drink. Although they served us, we had to seek them out to pay the bill. Breakfast was lengthy for the included continental breakfast (about an hour to be served). For our day we spent at the beach, Alejandro was wonderful. He took care of all our needs throughout the day.

Alejandro was super kind and personable. I believe he’s the manager not sure either way I like how he’s present and eager to assist. The hotel is beautiful and the pool area is very nice and relaxing. I really liked all the staff they were friendly and kind. The front desk even showed integrity because I was going to pay a higher rate for something and she recommended a way where I can get a lower rate. Always good vibes!!!

We've had an amazing time at the resort! The service was amazing, we were welcomed with a drink, they took care of our luggage and also showed us our room and the facilities. The room was amazing! It was clean, big enough for the two of us, had a good shower, nice bathroom, outstanding wifi and a minipool in our garden. Everything was within a few minutes of walking, the beach the pool (at the beach) the restaurant and reception. In our opinion everything was perfect! They were only still renovating the place (said till end of june), so there was a moment the wifi was off or we hadn't had water for half an hour but i'm sure once everything is being renovated the place will be magical!
Two points of criticism: everywhere is sand in the hotel because almost everything is outside so whenever you come home you take some with you, so the floor can be a little sandy. Fortunately they clean the room every day. point two is that there was a lot of seaweed on the beach which made it really hard to swim into the sea or lay at the beach near your room.
