Maya Tulum by G Hotels garners mixed reviews, with guests praising its serene beachfront and ocean views, as well as the enjoyable breakfast options. However, the hotel struggles with maintaining cleanliness standards, as some travelers report issues ranging from maintenance to pest infestations.
While the atmosphere and service receive both commendations and complaints, the location near the beach and town is generally appreciated. Nonetheless, reviewers warn about additional charges and question the overall value, often feeling that the cost does not match the experience provided.

I loved how small and personal it was, quiet. Excellent food, excellent friendly service. They spoke good English .We stayed by ocean,it was a beautiful view but the seaweed smell was awful inside the room & outide. No night shows, if you like a quiet night it’s perfect for you . Always was able to switch in your dirty towels. Beach was cleaned and they cleaned the seaweed the best they could Disliked: charge you for every thing, coffee pods/ teabags, pop in your room. They turned off the water after 3 am, Required a visa to pre charge 300$ American when checking in. (For drinks and food) the drinks were expensive 20$ a drink, plus staff requested 25 % tip. We brought our own drinks and they were good with that. We kept it discreet. I had to bring own drinks cause I’m a diabetic ,there drinks had alot of sugar in them .Yoga studio was always dirty & never cleaned. Old towels and blankets full of sand.Tulum didn’t have alot for shopping and markets didn’t open till 2 pm,boutiques were open, beautiful pieces but expensive.Theres no gym on the resort, you would have to walk 7 min to another resort to use and they would have to call to see if available.Misleading with the photos. Didn’t mind the public washroom were outside without a roof. There was a public beach a bit away from the hotel, my group went to and got charge 20$ American to use the public beach . It wasn’t a all inclusive trip at Maya Tulum Resort. We had our meals included but it was because we were part of a yoga retreat.

This is a boutique hotel on the beach. Our room was a cabana that was beachfront with a king size bed. The patio was surrounded by bushes which restricted the view of the beach a bit but also provided privacy. The sound of the waves serenaded us to sleep each night. The room needs additional lighting. The room and bathroom only have mood lighting. Only two small bottles of water are provided each day. The bathroom window has a permanent opening which let mosquitoes in over night.
The beach is beautiful with nice chairs and a lovely sandy beach with easy entry to the water. The beach was not crowded on our visit. In high season, the number of chairs may be an issue.
The service throughout was odd. Staff are friendly but not forthcoming. One evening upon a visit to the bar just after 10pm, we were told they were closing in 10 minutes and were reluctant to serve us a drink. Although they served us, we had to seek them out to pay the bill. Breakfast was lengthy for the included continental breakfast (about an hour to be served). For our day we spent at the beach, Alejandro was wonderful. He took care of all our needs throughout the day.

Nice location and friendly staff but poorly run. The welcome was chaotic, and not much information was given. Just a rundown of all the extra things we would be charged for, including the usage of the coffee machine in the room. (Never seen before) The bed was covered in animal droppings every day. There was a wet patch under the sink and a foul smell in the room, especially around the toilet. The room gets flooded during heavy rain. The included breakfast is very small. We had to ask every day for our complimentary water. The staff we nice and helpfull but the hotel comes across as being pretentious.

Firstly I’ll begin that I sent the below complaint to the hotel and they told me someone would be in touch and they are now just ignoring me.
I’m incredibly disappointed with my stay
Firstly when we arrived the toilet was blocked and urine in it instantly, so it clearly wasn’t cleaned properly. Someone did come to unblock it but it shouldn’t have been left like that for arrival
-the smell off the surrounding area of the rooms smells of sewage which obviously isn’t very pleasant
-I found the staff in general quite unhelpful and unfriendly. Last night (room 42) was having a party, I messaged concierge several times to which nobody replied around midnight, the service is 24 hours and whoever is in charge of the WhatsApp had been online and ignored my messages. I then called reception and was told I’d be called back in a minute.. I was not called back.
After reporting our neighbours I think about 6 times and nothing changed I had to get out of my bed and go to reception. The man on reception then said he’d come with me to the neighbours, this made me feel quite unsafe, why would I want to confront the disruptive drunk neighbours?
They were given a warning and the noise continued, the music got louder. I messaged the WhatsApp again and was ignored, I did not sleep all night and felt unwell and was annoyed I’ve paid double the amount you normally charge for your rooms, I understand because of the festive period, but this made the experience even more upsetting to be paying this amount and having such a disruptive experience.
I felt like the staff did not care, where unfriendly and lazy. when checking out I had pre asked for our luggage to be collected to make our taxi at 11am, nobody came, we where 15 minutes late in our taxi after also being told the taxi waiting for us was not ours.
This was the worst experience I’ve had in a hotel in Tulum and I’ve stayed in cheaper places here.
Very dissapointed. I wasn’t even asked how my stay was upon checking out because I think they knew to be honest I was not happy and they didn’t offer any compensation or anything to make the situation better.
Over priced and awful customer service, I would save your money and look else where.

How to start? Bad experience! Staff at the reception treats you with disrespect, does not care about the problems of the hotel. Upon arrival, we were notified of a never negotiated fee, 10 USD per day, per person, we found that this fee is not charged anywhere. They made a pre authorization in our chart for extras, yes, we agreed, but in the pool when we asked for a drink, apparently everything very expensive in this hotel, they did not warn that you need to ask for an account and sign, even already having the pre-autorization, when we left the pool, because we had dinner time, we went to the room to take a bath and someone knocked on the door insistently, I opened the door wrapped in a towel and were two employees of the pool claiming that we did not ask for the bill, I warned that we were busy and taking a bath and they said that they would wait at the door of the room, already took my patience there and asked me to sign an order that they did not warn that it was necessary, but the inconvenience of not leaving the door of our room was already enough to bother us, they already had an authorization on our letter and they warned that they would go to the account of the room. Don't ask for a taxi at the hotel, they earn commissions and so they will offer you the most expensive, there is no street lighting, but it's better to walk than pay for 40 USD for 2 Km in the Tulum mob. The next day, we found a towel of cigarettes on the floor of our area, the shower was full of sand, the private pool with mud and the previous host left the beach chair upholstery completely wet and they did not change, we ordered 3 times and complained all day until they exchanged, bad experience. They announce it has a fitness center, but when they arrived, they said they closed for 4 months and we would have to pay to use it.
Now another disappointment, the breakfast, I had read but reviews about it, but I decided to try pq I didn't believe it could be so bad, bad!!!! They serve you a small portion every day, a little fruit, a little oatmeal and if they remember, they take you a clove and something made with egg, little porcao, they try to sell you and charge you. Slow service, they all keep talking on the phone and not pay attention to the tables, I had to get up and pick myself up.
I would never go back to that hotel, yes it's beautiful, but every day we had stress with everything and they only run at the bottom of the drawer, including the restaurant staff, everything asks for a drawer,
Don't stay in this hotel, it will ruin your trip! We left for another place that was much better, to save the rest of the trip.
Coco and Gil, they listen to you, but they don't do anything for you. They're just doing you a favor.

We had a very disappointing experience at Maya Tulum, despite the property being beautiful, quiet, and well-located at the northernmost point of the main beach. It’s within walking distance (30–60 minutes) of many other hotels and restaurants. However, issues with basic cleanliness, core amenities, and the overall guest experience significantly impacted our stay.
These problems could be addressed, but it doesn’t seem like management is interested in making improvements. While most of the staff were friendly and seemed to want to help, they didn’t seem to know who was in charge or how to handle problems. We found ourselves explaining the same issues repeatedly. I emailed both the front desk manager and general manager during our stay about our concerns but never received a response. Ultimately, we decided to check out early and move to another hotel down the beach, which was lovely. I wouldn’t recommend or return to Maya Tulum unless there’s a change in management.
Room Issues When we checked into our oceanfront room, we noticed a strong damp, musty smell, likely because the room wasn’t properly sealed against the elements. It was unpleasant while we were there, and unfortunately lingered in my clothes, so I had to wash everything when I got home. The room itself was poorly maintained, with warped doors, peeling blackout coating on the exterior door, and reflective coating coming off the bathroom mirror. The linens we received were also stained, frayed, and dingy.
Air Conditioning and Plumbing Problems On our second night, the air conditioning broke. I messaged the front desk via WhatsApp but didn’t get a response until the next morning. I managed to find a staff member who temporarily fixed the unit but it broke again around 2 a.m. the following night. The hotel told us they couldn’t repair right away and offered either a different room for one night or a fan. We chose the fan, but it arrived dirty and rusty, which made me uncomfortable about using it to circulate air in the room. Still, it was too hot to sleep without it. The AC unit was finally replaced after that.
The plumbing was another issue. The toilet in our room barely flushed, and after heavy rain, the sewage system in the pool and restaurant area backed up. The bathrooms were closed for a while, and although the issue was eventually fixed, there were strong sewage smells in the area and even coming from our bathroom (located on the other end of the property) and shower water.
Service and Guest Experience We also had trouble getting beach towels. For five consecutive days, we were told to come back at specific times, like 10 a.m. or 11 p.m., but there were never any towels available when we tried. Breakfast was decent, but the experience was a bit chaotic, with confusion around getting our food and signing the bill. Overall, the guest experience felt disorganized and every person for themselves.
In the end, this hotel has the potential to be wonderful, but the issues with basic cleanliness, core amenities, and guest service need significant improvement.

If you are expecting privacy, maybe think twice before you book this hotel, especially if you are staying at their highest category room (beachfront). I would say that service is pretty standard, they put some effort in making you feel relax, the food quality is very standard for what they charge. Our room was the master bedroom with “private pool and jacuzzi”, which was never private, we had from local fishermans, local people selling crafts, some taking naps and army rounds in atvs all day long, people walking behind our room and we could hear them at 1-2 am in the morning, for the early catch of the day. Some serious reorganization needs to happen to this location, or don’t even offer private rooms!!! You can see everything that I am describing in the pictures.

I don’t even know where to start here! The check in was very slow and quite unprofessional! I haven’t been informed about the time of the breakfast and I had to wait a lot before my turn! I’ve been told that water and coffee are for free and I’ve been charged for the coffee! Such a hotel that makes you pay for the coffee is just ridiculous! The wanted to charge for my service dog which is against the law and I had to fight with the front desk guy! The breakfast starts at 8 am and if you have an early excursion at 7 you lost it! The private beach they have is quite big but they have just 6 sun beds which are always busy (people leave a towel there and leave!) As well there is a dog on the beach that is literally stalking and harassing customer They charge you for literally everything! My booking.com final price should be 504$(400 for the room and the rest was just taxes and extra!) I had to pay 600$ which is more than what is enstablished by booking! Anyway I’m already in touch with them to have the money back! I had very high expectations for this place! I wouldn’t come back to be honest! For this money you can literally have so much more

I would definitely not recommend this hotel. Cockroaches, bugs of all kinds, lizards and all in our room! The shower water is salty and untreated, we do not recommend brushing your teeth with water. The flushing did not work we reported it a first time at the reception, problem is said to be fixed in the aftermath, out to the next use the toilet still did not work. No phone to reach the reception to report the flushing problem once again. And when we arrive at the reception we do not face understandable people.

BEAUTIFUL HUTS! The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the hut we stayed in was very aesthetic. It was a beautiful space. There was AC (clutch in the June humidity), smart tv, and our own mini pool. There's still construction but it didn't bother us much (the whole other side of the hotel is still under construction/developing). Pool is very nice but in construction zone (for now) so no bathrooms around there. For location - it's at the beginning of the strip so it is not walkable to where more shops/restaurants are located further down the strip (about an hour walk - and in the June heat/humidity wasn't possible for us). Renting a bike is $20 usd per day - a bit pricey if you ask me! Taxis are extremely expensive (negotiate down as low as you can as possible).
