Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

At Copal Tulum Hotel, many guests have enjoyed spacious, clean rooms, some boasting private pools, though there have been mentions of noise and occasional maintenance issues. While the hotel's amenities, including the lush courtyard and multiple pools, generally receive praise, the value proposition receives mixed reviews, with some guests finding prices reasonable and others pointing out overpriced services.
The central location is appreciated for its convenience to local attractions, but safety at night has been a concern. Service at the hotel is often highlighted as friendly and attentive, contributing to the serene, jungle-like atmosphere that makes Copal Tulum Hotel a tranquil retreat.

Detailed Reviews
I have to say, Copal Tulum Hotel is one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. The service, particularly from the lobby staff, was amazing—they were professional, friendly, and always ready to help. The two-bedroom apartment was spotless, beautifully decorated, and offered all the comfort and luxury you could dream of.
Both on-site restaurants were incredible. The Japanese restaurant served some of the most delicious dishes I’ve ever had, and the gastropub was just as impressive, offering tasty and well-prepared meals. The hotel’s location is ideal, providing easy access to attractions and the convenience of a bike rental right outside the property.
In summary, I strongly recommend Copal Tulum Hotel to anyone visiting Tulum. It truly provides a top-notch experience in every way.

The hotel is beautiful, especially the pool. The staff were very helpful. The food was great but, in our opinion, a bit overpriced. The drinks are incredibly overpriced. On one of the days, there was a 3 hour power cut and, whilst the restaurant had a back up generator, the rooms did not. The location isn’t the best - you need to get taxis everywhere as it is not a nice area to walk. The room was nice with great ac and a fully equipped kitchen (except for a bottle opener!) We thought they should have supplied more drinking water (only two small bottles and they charge a fortune to buy water at the hotel) and some coffee to tide you over until you can go to the supermarket. In other hotels that we stayed on the same trip, this was standard (as was a welcome drink). Overall we had a lovely time and really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful hotel, but there is room for improvement.

Beautiful hotel in good location, walkable to the high street and a short taxi ride to the beach area.
Rooms were very well kept and the apartment we stayed in was larger than expected with a terrace area and 2 balconies.
The concierge team were very helpful in finding information we requested and help booking excursions.
Pool area is a great place to hang out, with plenty of sun cover from the plants/trees.
Only downside is point the kitchenette was missing some basic equipment such as bowls.

My stay at the Hotel Coal Tulum was disappointing. My room didn’t match the pictures in the ad, and the walls were as thin as the delicious tacos I enjoyed in the hotel restaurant. Besides, the only real positive point of my experience was the quality of the cuisine offered by the restaurants and the location of the hotel which is close to the center but it is better to rent scooters. The pool on the rooftop was much less impressive than in the picture, while the one at the bottom was constantly in the shade. In addition, the hotel does not provide bottled water in the rooms, and when I asked for it at the reception, I was charged. Nevertheless, I would like to thank the reception staff for their sympathy.

Nice building. Decent space. My wife and I stayed In The standard room for 2 nights and the master suite with pool for 2 nights.
The standard room is connected to other rooms and there is a blocked wooden door between them and you can hear everything between the rooms. We were in bed sleeping at 940pm and the front desk disturbed me and my wife to tell us to turn down the music when we were not making noise. I guess it’s an honest mistake but they could check for the noise in person before disturbing us. The standard room was good enough though, comfortable beds.
The master suite with pool didn’t have a tv in the bedroom and only had a tv the size of my iPad in the living area, maybe 32 inch at most. It had a noisy refrigerator of which the water on the door did not work and I looked up the spout and there was mould growing on the tip. Unacceptable. There is no black out blinds/curtains so everyone who walks past can look through and everyone does look because they are curious to see the ‘master suite’ and that felt uncomfortable. The suite pool was stone cold, and in the event of it being in direct sunlight, a cold pool would be nice. However the pools on the ground level have ZERO sun exposure so we didn’t even use the pool.
We were annoyed that our first breakfast by the pool area was horrifically disturbed by the sound of hammering power tools/construction work happening 10 feet away from us at 920am. And to top it off, The chef over cooked my poached eggs everyday.
To be honest, I was glad to leave this place. It was Very average if not below average treatment from staff. I always felt like I was bothering them. They don’t give you bottled water in the room every day, they give you 2 small bottle only upon check in and then charge you nearly 20 dollars for 2 one litre bottles, or tell you to walk to the 7eleven which is a 15 minute walk along a dangerous street with a smashed up pathway in what feels like a rough neighbourhood.
The food was good generally, the cocktails were good and the waiter staff were pleasant.

Dear 26OSR, thank you very much for choosing us. It has been a pleasure to have you with us. The whole team went out of their way to try to make you happy, in fact you were not charged for late check out as we insisted that you did not want to leave the room at the stipulated time. Seeing your dissatisfaction with the water, the team offered you two complimentary bottles. The water we offer is rainwater. A luxury water that is indeed not cheap. But even so, at the reception we have two water coolers with flavoured water for guests to refresh themselves. The supermarkets can be reached on foot or by taxi and the area is not dangerous, in fact most of our guests walk around Aldea Zama without any problem. When we ask someone to turn down their music it is because another guest has asked them to do so and in your case they have. We try to accommodate most of your requests because, as you explained, you are influencers, but the hotel's policies are the same for all guests and we try to ensure that everyone receives VIP treatment. We hope to see you again soon Best regards Copal Tulum Hotel Guest Experience Team

Very noisy room on a busy road, with single paned window. We had a 1 bedroom suite with a pool, which we didn’t use . It was small and cold, and not easy to get into, however the rooftop deck had lounges and some shade. The living room was large and very bright with a large balcony, and it had a full kitchen and dining table. The sofa was very uncomfortable , so we really couldn’t sit comfortably to watch TV . The bedroom was small with very firm twin beds, not a king bed. The bathroom was very small and basic, but clean. However housekeeping was practically nonexistent . Towels (old and poor quality) were only changed every 3days, and we had to go to the front desk to ask for toilet paper as there was no phone in the room. Towels were provided for the pool, which was cold. The rooftop pool was also very cold and had no steps to enter.
There are 2 restaurants, Kikoro, and Copal Gastro, which are good.
Esme at the front desk was very helpful, and made a reservation at the Hotel Alito beach club, which was wonderful, lounges in the shade , right on the beach which is spectacular. The food at their restaurant beach club was excellent.

Dear Cerountree, we are sorry that your stay was not as special as we would have liked. We will try to pay more attention with the change of towels and bathroom supplies. As for the temperature of the pools, we would like to remind you that it is late fall and we cannot control it, but we do have a jacuzzi for those who like warmer water. Congratulations to Esme for her great job as concierge. We will try to improve and keep growing in the right direction. A big hug from Tulum.

I stayed in this hotel after seeing some good tiktoks. The hotel has a great ambiance and vibe that you want to see when you come to Tulum but that was it. the food was good at the restaurants on site. My group of 5 stayed here for our friend's birthday and it was the worst experience and i've been to mexico several times. The room was full of mold. it had this awful moldy, wet smell that lingered into my clothes and luggage all the way home. The whole apartment was just wet, sticky, muggy and humid. We barely had towels or washclothes, even after asking for some we were told most times that there were none and we had to wait hours sometimes to even get them. Most nights we had to wash up with our hands because they did not have towels or washclothes at all. The one time we did get washclothes you could see the black dye running from it. The wifi kept going in and out and at one point completely stopped working, they did end up fixing it hours later but it continued to be patchy. There were also no phones so you have to walk to the front every time you want something and half the time they never in fill the request. There were no paper towels and trash bags either, we had to clean with toilet tissue and throw away our trash with the bags we had gotten from the market. There were nats everywhere like swarming by the lights that were by our beds. For the price you pay and the "luxury" advertisement they give, you would think you'd get the basics but it was a complete nightmare. The taxis were overpriced but so is the whole area, but the taxis in front of the hotel tried to charges us $40 to go 5min down the road. The front desk was not helpful, most of time they would just stare at us, it was like talking to a brick wall. The staff entered out room even when we had our do not disturb sign on the door. When it was time to check out we had to wait because the guy attending the front desk did not speak English and even with my phone translator he still did not know what was going on. So we waited 20 minutes for another guy to walk from down the street to check us out. Tulum is still a developing area so be cautious of that but this hotel has got to do better. It is not ready for tourists at all. If you want to pay money to take instagram pictures then this is the place for you but you are better off booking at a nicer hotel/airbnb/resort that will actually take care of your needs and make you feel safe.

After spending a week at Copal hotel in Tulum I have mixed feelings about my stay.
food and drinks felt somewhat overpriced and I felt it was odd that the hotel asked for a tip when ordering a smoothie from the roomservice. Rooms themselves were okay, but our roomservice kept forgetting to bring in new towels, although they carried away the old ones. Facilities were generally clean but the hotel feels a bit confined. For example, the rooftop pool area was nice but had only limited space for guests. Moreover, guests would occupy these sun beds for the whole day, marking them with their towels, even if they decided to go elsewhere. Staff were nice and smiley, but one could say they were also inexperienced with tourists. We got some nice restaurant suggestions but tips on how to move in Tulum were poor. Due to the location one needs to cycle roughly 5km to the beach. It was fine as the hotel could lend you a bicycle for 12$/day. I would note that one of the poorest areas of Tulum resides next to the hotel, which was not really a nice sight and could also look a bit dodgy in the dark

Beautiful hotel. The entire staff was very nice and extremely helpful. The 24/7 service is great, especially when in tulum. The room was a bit smaller than expected but the bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. The sushi restaurant was so good we went back a second night. The downstairs restaurant was good as well.

I went to Copal for my birthday, and though I was impressed with how beautiful the grounds are and was appreciative of how attentive Housekeeping was, I found that the hotel’s Guest Relations lacked that attention to detail.
Initially, I was put off by the fact that the room I booked did not match the description provided online. I did book the room through a third party website provided by my employer as opposed to the hotel’s website, but it is my hope that the hotel would ensure their information is accurate across all websites they advertise themselves on. So instead of getting a rooftop studio with a private pool as advertised, I ended up on the first floor near housekeeping quarters. This resulted in a lack of privacy and I felt that I couldn’t lounge and enjoy the grounds from my room as someone was always walking past and looking in.
To make matters worse, despite disclosing I was coming to celebrate my 30th birthday and also flagging the matter to concierge, the hotel did nothing to make my stay feel special. The hotel offers paid packages to celebrate special occasions, but if you do not purchase a package it seems they don’t care to find ways enhance your experience. I’ve paid less for AirBnBs and hotels who have left a card, chocolate covered strawberries, or a small bottle to commemorate my celebration. And even in going out in Tulum we went to small bars and restaurants that had little to no business and still made sure to make our experience notable.
The Guest Relations at Copal left a cold and impersonal impression on me, and since Tulum is abundant with beautiful accommodations I can’t think of any reason to choose this hotel over others. It doesn’t stand out aside from their restaurant Kokoro which you could visit while staying elsewhere.

My wife and I also have a problem with the hotel refund process. When we arrived at the hotel we were asked to give our passport or pay MXN 4000. Of course we paid the amount by card and they told us that a refund would be made within 10 days of our stay. We have now been trying to contact the hotel for 1 and a half months without success. Could you please tell us if your problem has been solved?

Washington DC, District of Columbia119 contributions8 helpful votesWe are planning our summer vacation and need to know how far is it to a public beach. I read that there is a nearby cenote for swimming. Some hotels are next to the beach. Is this an advantage or disadvantage? Thanks!
Hi Richard, a public beach would be around 10 minutes bij taxi. A cenote is 15 to 20 minutes by taxi. Hotels on the beach would charge for renting a beach chair USD 30-50 for a full day stay (minus consumptions you use). Selinas is nice, Villa Estrella, Panamera Hotel. If you walk in and have lunch in a normal chair, also available on the beach or around the pool, you dont have to pay for renting a day bed of course. Go. Copal Tulum Hotel is a lovely place. You'll love the mix of spending a day at the hotel pool, at a cenote or in a relaxed beach club. Don't forget to visit Mystika Museum, a must see!!
