Let’s start with, this is my favorite vacation resort. This was our 4th visit here. The resort is not up to standard yet. The pandemic has really had a negative impact. 1.) we usually arrive and are taken to the platinum part of the resort to check in. All check-ins are in the lobby now. You stand in this huge line waiting and waiting. We were supposed to be greeted with champagne, but instead we were told to wait another hour to check in, but it actually took almost 2 hours. We stood in line again to get the key. Then the key didn’t work and we had to back track to front desk and continue to stand in line for a third time. The room didn’t have any towels or drinks in the refrigerator yet. We had to wait for the service to come around and get towels enough for 4 people and drinks. Because we had to wait the 2 extra hours for check in, The only place to eat was outside at the picnic tables that were full, and you just stand in the sun without a place to sit. No food inside with air from 3-6pm. 2.) Our room was located on the 3rd floor and it was the best room we have ever had. It was facing the beach and what a view!! 3.) We went to the concierge in the platinum club (Abril) was her name. Not nice, uncaring, and not helpful. She would be more suited to do the check-ins in the lobby. We were told promptly that we had to schedule all the restaurants ourselves online. All the restaurants were full for the first 2 days we were in the resort due to less seating. We tried and tried to get online with WiFi, but was unsuccessful. Normally the concierge helps with planning and booking but we were refused that service. The next day Rene showed up at the desk and helped us figure everything out, and explained everything so that we’re were able to do it ourselves. Thank you Rene!! 4.) The resort normally has live music every night. Depending on the day you got something different like mariachi, or a local band, one time they brought in a harp that played up to date music. This time we had one night of live music (Selena tribute) and the rest of the nights were just a DJ. He didn’t play any music up to date and it was all 60s American music. I would have loved to here some salsa, or other Mexican music. He would just put it on auto play and walk away. Extremely boring with no excitement, he did not have the ability to maintain a crowd for entertainment. 5.)The live shows that start at 8:30 were all fantastic. They had a 70’s-80’s show, Moana, Dance party etc. These people help you all day then turn around and put on these fabulous shows at night! 6.) Most of the days we did the same routing. 10:00 volleyball on the beach, 12:00 riffles, 2:00 water aerobics. Before, every day was different. Plus they would have all these things to do at the poolside like painting ceramics of your choice, or dancing contest. All of those things were not available. 7.) Almost all of the extra things are closed like the sports bar and casino. Our favorite night is Thursdays because the vendors from town come in and sell local items. That was cancelled. 8.) They have photographers that come around and take your picture. The picture place that would have been open all day to view those pictures, is only open from 7-9pm during dinner and the show. So you have to miss that to look at pictures. If you happen to have your picture taken on the beach with a monkey, or other animals you have to walk a quarter of a mile down the beach to purchase those pictures because they are separate photographers that are not linked with the resort, but at least they are open to purchase from 2-5pm. 9.) We still knew many workers at the resort from the previous visits, but we were told anyone that had less than five years of service lost their jobs. Most of the people working now are brand new. This also contributes to the lack of service which makes this resort a 5 star. The interesting part is normally everyone speaks English, but this time almost all of the people either knew little English or non at all. I believe if you go to another country you should speak their language. My family speaks enough Spanish to get by. We helped many other guest with translating. 10.)We actually booked our resort to stay at the Sunset Princess, but we’re not told it was closed and we were put in the Riviera Princess Resort. All in all, we did have a good time. We were really unhappy the first 2 days, but started to just take it as is, and enjoy just being together as a family. We are probably not returning for a few years, but it’s still on our list of resorts we love and will eventually return. The main problem I had, was that the cost. The resort was just as expensive as the last time we came, but the service and the all over resort is not up to the standard of the cost. Think twice if you think you are getting 5 star service. Maybe in 6 months they will be back on track.

We were told the resort was open, now we are here we find out its only 30% open. Food selection sucks in our opinion. We requested 2 rooms beside one another since we are traveling with a 5yo child. We end up with rooms on separate floors. Remember the resort is only operating at 30%. That means 7 out of 10 rooms is empty. But we can't get 2 rooms together. We were told we had to schedule transportation back to the airport. We showed up to do this but the person scheduling neglected to show up. We set another appointment. He gave us a specific time to meet with him and he never showed up. This is our time that we spend our hard earned money for just to be wasting it showing up for appointments where the person is a no show. The resort gave us a time to show up to take a covid test. Let me say that again, the resort set an appointment for us to get a test and the nurse is a no show. We are sitting in line as I write this review. We have been here for over 2hrs and they have not taken anyone back to be tested. Again this is my vacation wasted by unkempt appointments by staff at the Grand Sunset Princess. There are about 70-80 people standing outside in the heat waiting on incompetent staff to show up for their jobs. The beach is full of seaweed also. I took 2 pics that do not show the real picture. The People are outraged and have left the line. There are young babies crying as they are standing in the heat for an appointment that was set by the resort.

First of all... the resort is nice, but everything else is terrible. Unless you LOVE eating kids meals (hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.) for every meal. You pay for all inclusive but can’t find a thing to eat. The resort is large and if you forget a mask they’ll make you walk 20 minutes back to your room versus providing one for you (I have been to Mexico several times during the pandemic and all resorts provide when needed.) I literally wouldn’t stay here again for a cent. The staff doesn’t even care and is not friendly at all. This was 100% the worst resort I’ve ever stayed at. You’ll go hungry, and you’ll be aggravated the whole time. They close everything at the most inconvenient times unless you wanna walk 15-20 minutes to any other place. And once again the food you could find was the SAME THING EVERYDAY and if you had any sort of dietary restriction (or were vegetarian or vegan) you would not find anything to eat besides a hot dog, hamburger, and nachos. It was just all around a horrible experience and the staff was the most rude bunch I’ve came across.

Dear Jenna S, Thank you for taking the time to write a review in Trip Advisor. Regarding your comments about the food, please notice that our Executive Chef works to offer a variety of fresh options for each meal, featuring a different daily dish made from seasonal ingredients. We also provide a fresh omelet station at breakfast and fres vegetables bar and a carving station with prime cuts of meat at lunch and dinner. In addition to the lunch buffet, guests also have the option of eating at our taco stand close to the pools. However, we shared your comments with the management in order to review the service and options in our restaurants. We hope you give us the chance to demonstrate you that our main goal is to create unforgettable experiences with a high- quality service. Kind regards.

Came for Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend and some friends. I got a double bed, I asked the same day at reception if I can have one bed, since that’s what I had asked for when I got the hotel room . Arrived Friday night and it’s Sunday night and they still haven’t changed me rooms. Spoke to Manager and he apologized for the inconvenience he mentioned they would upgrade us rooms for the inconvenience. Went to reception for the room change and the person in the reception was very rude to us. Story short it’s 12:40 pm we are tired of waiting for the room change and to top it all of we fly tomorrow we have waited for the room change for 2 hours. Worst mistake to come here if your planning something romantic don’t come here, so upset and tired of this bs and employees lack of hospitality. I’m not going to recommend this hotel to my friends nor family just go somewhere else where they are friendly and good customer service. Housekeeping doesn’t even do there job right, even found a dirty sock on chair mat, I guess they aren’t sanitizing rooms for covid. Only means they don’t clean nor sanitize there rooms. Bad experience overall.
