Stayed here for a week attending a conference. Our room was in Bldg 19 which was convenient to the main lobby and an easy walk to other areas of interest (ruins, "beach" area). Overall the resort felt tired. We were in a jr suite with dated furniture. No hot water for showers. We were never bothered about the time share...

Traveling from NOV 30-DEC 15 London gatwick-cancun..with Virgin NOTE- you do not have to pay departure tax when leaving with Virgin but for airlines like Thomas cook etc you do need to pay in upon leaving Mexico and its about 800 peso each that must be paid in cash and in peso, so don't get caught out! The hotel is spread out with lots of pools so u don't feel crowded. Very lush and fresh. Main restaurant was great with good choice but could be better! Rooms were great. Comfy beds. The evening show at Xcaret water park was amazing, we'll worth the evening, really good. It was a 10 min cab drive to Playa del Carmen....

My boyfriend and I travelled to this resort for a week, prior to Christmas. We've stayed at other resorts in the area which we both agreed were nicer, but there was absolutely nothing to complain about with this resort. Lobby: The main lobby is open air and offers a great little bar with seating over the main river. From here,...

If you choose to stay at this property, make sure you upgrade to the Royal Club. Everything is better: service, accommodations, food, concierge, etc. Otherwise, you will probably not be as happy. This review is for the Royal Club only. The rooms are nicely appointed and generally fairly quiet with an ocean view. The Royal Club restaurant is excellent but...

The hotel was different than the usual Mexican resort - the lush surroundings made the it feel like you in the middle of a jungle. The many buffets and restaurants were varied and excellent. There were lots of bars and pools that were great as they made you feel like you were in a new resort each day. Hotel is...

We just returned home from 8 days at Grand Xcaret. Our overall impression was very good. The hotel lobby and location are beautiful. It is convenient to many, many opportunities--Chichen Itza, Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, and, the two parks near the hotel. Restaurants were very good but need to be booked ahead (we loved the waterfront one best). The staff...

This was our honeymoon and the major let down of the hotel was the staff continuing to trying to sell you a timeshare. We were approached a min of twice a day, daily, for the whole two weeks. You also need to be prepared to tip staff at every opportunity, even if you are on the all inclusive. But if...

The 5-star Occidental at Xcaret Destination in Riviera Maya is a perfect combination in a natural setting with preserved cultural landmarks and an all-inclusive resort with a unique array of rooms, services, and state-of-the-art facilities. Choosing among the many possible activities is the most complicated part of a stay at this resort in Playa del Carmen. Swimming with dolphins, attending a Mayan Indian ceremony, enjoying all types of water sports at the beach club or sailing down the beautiful rivers and canals that surround the hotel are just a few highlights. The Xcaret eco-archeological park offers one of the most unique and exciting park, especially for families, by guaranteeing over 40 cultural attractions and expositions on art and traditions in Mexico. However, as people normally say at the hotel: "Do it all...or simply do nothing." Choose from a list of diverse activities such as strolling through the lush gardens at the resort, enjoying the sun while lying on a hammock, or taking a refreshing swim in one of the resort's five pools or private beach. Anti-stress remedies at the resort are endless. Regardless of how you plan each day at the resort, the hotel's choice of culinary selections is designed to satisfy the demands of every kind of guest. With 10 bars, including the one at the club, and 11 restaurants, guests have the freedom to choose a snack, an informal meal, a gourmet feast or a candlelight dinner, among many other options.
