This location is very deceiving with their pictures and reviews. Upon arrival the only food was in the sports bar. We were told "don't do it". although we tried, we shouldn't have. Just plain nasty and display was not sanitary. Our room had to be changed 3x the same arrival day; locks didn't work, screen door broke then too many bugs. Final better room was the next day. The restaurants were intermittmently closed - not opened everyday. Drinks horribly weak. Advertised an infinity pool which there was no access to. The asian food taste better than mexican food. Had unknown animals roaming the grounds. Masks mandate was not enforced. No good entertainment or offers of excursions. The beach was not conducive for social distancing. Had no umbrellas..... HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND !!!!!
Riu Tequila is a great place to stay for your vacation. Location is perfect and though the hotel is placed on the second row toward beach, it provides small 5 seats train that takes you from the reception and gets to the beach in three or four minutes. Quality and variety of food and cuisines was perfect. The only inconvenience was that a shower compartment has a glass door, so there can be a problem if you are living not alone in your room.
We decided to end our 2 week trip to Mexico with 3 nights at the RIU Tequila. Check in was smooth & easy. We were given a non-alcoholic welcome drink while we waited & our rooms were even ready when we arrived at noon! Rooms were adequate. Please note, there are no elevators, so if you have mobility issues, be sure to ask for a ground floor. Location does not matter as this is not an ocean front hotel. Our room was clean & comfortable. We had towels replenished daily & there were lotions & body wash if you needed them in the rooms. The mini fridge was stocked as well which is a great touch. The pools were fine. We did not care for the fact that they have no waiter service, so if you need a drink, you will have to walk over to the main bar…and forget your mask. The temp of the pool was fine as well. Last year same time we had stayed at another RIU in the area & the pools were so hot- we did not find this to be the case. Food/drinks was an area that I think could really use improving. Buffet is seat yourself & completely self serve (even drinks). Our plates were not cleared off as they should be. The 24 hr sports bar we actually liked. They did have wrapped up food (burgers, burritos, etc) in a refrigerator case & a microwave nearby if you wanted to grab & go (we did not try these, but thought it was a good idea). We did have a breakfast there one day & the pastries were really good. The asian restaurant is just a buffet with just asian food. The steakhouse was good…. but oddly would not honor the “all inclusive”. My fiancé wanted the sampler platter & I wanted a burger- they told us if he got the sampler platter we would have to share it & THEN when we were done eating the sampler platter, we would have to order my entree. This made zero sense to me. The other restaurants were open on a rotating basis & they were not open during our 3 night stay. We were truly hoping for seafood, the best we found was white fish- no shrimp or crab or anything else. (I understand no lobster as this a budget resort, but…..). The drinks at the bar were OK, but you can tell they substitute some fresh items for syrups & use low quality alcohol. Nighttime- the main show area has the craziest system! They have staff walking around, cleaning tables, & setting coasters under your drinks….. but they won’t take drink orders. This create a backup at the main bar that you had to walk up to during the shows to get a drink. I have been to literally hundreds of all-inclusives & never experienced such a weird set up. Seems except for the steakhouse, there is no wait staff there.. at all- for the pool, the bars, the restaurants. I know it is COVID times, but I have been to Mexico 5 times since COVID began & not run into this. The shows were actually REALLY good! Have stayed at Palace many times & I am sure they are the same shows, but they just seemed of much better quality. The entertainment team is amazing as well. We love Allen!!! Had a fun time watching a US football game in the sports bar one night with popcorn & drinks & lots of fans watching the game as well. The grounds are very well kept, clean, & beautiful. Loved seeing the wild animals around as well. Has a lovely jungle feel to the property. To sum up… I LOVE the RIU chains & stay at them often. I feel like the value we received for what we paid was well worth it. I would certainly stay here again for the right price. Just realize, you are paying budget resort prices & go with that expectation. You will be happy as everything about the resort is a little higher than budget resort quality. That is why I am giving them a solid 4.…
Great service, Food , Accommodations, nightly shows. Very Clean ! Would definitely come back again. Location good too, you can use 2 other Riu hotels across street on the beach. Would definitely come back again.
This is a great property. Clean. Everything works. Pools are great. Animation team is great. Food is great. Staff is fantastic (all of them). Being able to use the facilities at the other 2 Riu resorts makes this a great deal. Thanks to Giovani at the front desk and Kenneth from the Animation team. We will definitely be back.
