My family travels to the Mayan Riviera quite often, we always go somewhere different; so we decided to try Sandos Caracol and we are very disappointed. For starters, our transportation dropped us off and there was no one to greet us; I stood waiting for 10 minutes for someone to help us with our bags, no one came. I moved my bags myself and had to track someone down to check my bags. We stood in line for 45 minutes waiting to check-in. After we finally checked in and got a room I had a Guest Service representative try and sell me on a timeshare. I have a 5 year old and 1 year old, my kids were crying, they were tired and hungry and the hotel was trying to get me to sit through a timeshare before I have even been to my room. My wife wanted to go to the room with the kids to cool down, not a single person offered to help her to the room or drive her. After I told the Guest Service (timeshare person) that we don’t do timeshares, he finally let me go to my room; I had to bring my bags myself. We wanted to go get some food, so we headed to the only place open the buffet. I did not want to believe the reviews, but they are right, the food is AWFUL. Breakfast and lunch are basically a carb and fruit buffet. I don’t understand how a family resort does not even have French fries or chick nuggets. The next day we went for breakfast, once again, carbs and fruit. They do have ONE person making omelet’s, but you have to wait about 15 min or eat the powdered scramble egg. One morning we got to the buffet (Toscano) right when it opened and got an omelet and found 2 giant hairs in it. Lunch was not better, so we spent our vacation eating cereal and fruit for breakfast and ate lunch everyday at the water park (hamburgers and hotdogs). I will say that dinners are not bad, if you can get into a specialty restaurant; I have young kids, so we were there by 6:00 and got a table. We ate at La Riviera and Los Lirios, both were good. We got reservation for the Brazilian (its ok) and El Templo. What does upset me is they said, these restaurants were fully booked, I had to ask several times to get a reservation; when we showed up there were numerous empty tables. Another down side, almost all the restaurants are open air (no AC), so at night when you want to cool down and enjoy dinner you are sweating. No my rant about El Templo; we got reservations after they told us that it was fully booked, showed up and there were 6 empty grills; 6 tables x 10 seats, 60 people could have been booked, so if you are there and they tell you there is no room, call them out. Also, we got food poisoning. My daughter and I ate the steak and both were throwing up in the middle of the night. I thought maybe it was just us, but we made friends with the family that sat at the table with us and both the father and his son who had the steak also got sick. I have been to the Mayan Riviera at least 20 times and I have never gotten food poisoning till we stayed here. Also, you cant go anywhere without someone trying to sell you on the Spa or pictures or a bracelet or hair braid or timeshare, I want to enjoy my vacation not be bothered by a sells person. Personally, I say avoid this resort, spend a bit more and go somewhere else.…
My fiancé and I went for our first big vacation together. 6 nights and we only left the resort once for an excursion. The excursions are easy to plan and everyone on site was extremely helpful. The teatro shows and entertainment each night are a blast. **Highly recommend staying on adults only section as you have access to LA Jungla restaurant and secluded pool. La Jungla was by far our favorite restaurant. Made to order as you like options for breakfast and healthy fresh options for lunch. Vicky, Karina, Irene, Angel, Carlos, Diana, and the entire kitchen staff are amazing. Great service at the restaurant and the pool. After only 1-2 days they knew our faces and habits and made us feel so welcome.
We had a fantastic week at Sandos Caracol! The property is is absolutely beautiful with a small water, cenote and lots amazing greenery/jungle on site! We saw monkeys in the trees, racoons, cats, birds and other animals wandering around all over. Great adult pool and the Royal Elite Rooms are very nice with a great balcony! The tours in the area are a blast, especially the Whale Shark Snorkeling! To top it off, we had a truly amazing dinner on the beach at the Riviera Restaurant! Special thank you to Executive Chef Israel for arranging it and making fantastic food for us, Chef Jorge for creating a work of art for our desert, and Noe, Gabriel and Sandra for providing top notch service! Thank you Sandos for making our stay so special!
I had a family trip with my two little girls, and my wife. We had an unforgettable vacation, where we did many family activities, we are very grateful to the kids club staff, The girls wanted to spend the whole day there, they did so many activities and they had a great time with Sam, Alexis and Victoria. They keep saying they miss them already. Rest assured that we will return. Thank you very much girls.
Richi is really fun and an energetic person. He’s very friendly he made our time here very enjoyable. He made us look forward to going to the shows at night. They became our friends right when we got there and it felt like a safe place to be at.
