Just got back from Mahekal and We LOVED IT! We had an ocean front room it was the best! Night room service on the deck with the sound of the waves. Rogelio the waiter was exceptional at all times, Loved fuego restaurant especially the homemade pizza and the maracuya mojito (exotic fruit). See you next year

My husband and I recently spent 5 nights at the Mahekal Beach hotel and loved it. The location and beach is perfect. The hotel itself has many great features, not to mention the great food. But the best part of this place is the people who work there. Nothing is overlooked. They constantly make you feel special. One of our...

After reading various TripAdvisor review, we decided to visit Mahekal Beach Resort for our first adventure at Playa del Carmen. It is beautiful resort with wonderful services. We love the penthouse suite with a great ocean view in a private setting. Will definitely return in the near future.

Just returned from a week-long stay in an ocean view room (bottom floor, unit 56). I'd rate the overall stay a 4.5 but decided to round up because Mahekal really is a magical place. As others have said, the grounds are lovely - so many trees, various flowers, design details - the place is impeccably put together and maintained. I...

We just returned from Mahekal and yet another amazing stay! We've been coming to Las Palapas/Shangri-La Caribe and now Mahekal since 2002, and have enjoyed our experiences so much, we keep coming back and bringing more friends with us each time!! It's rare to find a place where you feel completely at peace and at home with each stay, and...

This was our third time staying at the Mahekal and every time we visit, we enjoy our trip more and more. We stay in the beach house king rooms, which are located right on the beach - there is plenty of space for my husband, myself and our 2.5 year old. Every time we have visited, I've noticed small improvements...

Stayed for a week for a winter warm up trip. Mahekal has some nice things, some bad things, and some odd things which left me with very mixed feelings. The resort is located to the North of the main part of Playa del Carmen. It is in a nice green belt area which helps provide a more pleasant environment compared...

My husband and two sons have been vacationing at this magical property since it was Shangra-La Caribe. I have written other reviews, but felt the need to update since Mahekal had also gone through major additions, updates, and renovations. First of all, I don't believe there is a bad location on this property. Each room, bungalow, has it's own charm...

We spent two weeks at Mahekal. After several days we were subjected to ear splitting decibels of rave music that rattled the doors. We were moved to a garden view which was slightly better. Mahekal is situated between two beach clubs so we heard loud thumping music from 4 o'clock in the afternoon until 9 pm and one Saturday night...

My family and I stayed at Mahekal for 4 nights along with another family. The resort was great all around. The bungalows were clean, very nice decorated and spacious for a family of 4. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained and it was not a huge resort like others. They had 3 pools and all were kid friendly. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Mahekal Beach Resort is a legendary resort village located on 800 feet of white sand beach in the heart of vibrant Playa del Carmen. It has 198 thatched roof, palapa-style bungalows within steps of Fifth Avenue, the celebrated entertainment, shopping, and restaurant district of Playa del Carmen. The thousands of loyal repeat guests at Mahekal Beach Resort describe it as magical, memorable, and authentically Yucatecan. Our style is friendly and relaxed, a unique Caribbean experience where you can rock gently in a hammock on your private terrace and enjoy undoubtedly the best beach in Playa. Our guests love the fact that we have never compromised our truly unique ambiance and style. In keeping with that style, our rooms do not offer televisions. Instead, they feature original, brightly colored, Mexican tile bathrooms, private terraces with hammocks for siestas and star gazing, and locally-crafted Mexican wood furniture in an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy our magical sanctuary. The Resort offers meal plans that include breakfast daily and lunch or dinner. This choice gives our guests the opportunity to explore the many dining options in Playa del Carmen. ... more   less
