This is my second time in Merida and Casa Mexilio. I booked Casa Mexilio’s room for 14 days as I wanted to get to know Merida on its terms rather than my time constraints. Casa Mexilio’s location in Centro is very central as it’s only a few blocks from the main square. There is a doctor nearby, ½ block away,...

I have read all the reviews contained in this site about Casa Mexilio and can understand some of the criticisms leveled at this property. Firstly, let me warn those people who like MacDonald's, Cancun hotels with all inclusive services, drinking beer by the pool, watching continuous TV for entertainment, etc., etc., in my time you were called The Ugly Americans,...

On the plus side, wonderful, unique house in quiet setting, full of quirky charm. However, some of those quirks could turn into negatives for some. As other reviews mentioned, need degree in engineering to work out how to open doors (not amusing late at night), take torch for the "period lighting" if needing to read maps, guidebooks etc. Charming local...

I think the owners of this establishment have confused eccentricity with indifference. After having a struggle to even get in the place when we arrived (due to the fact no one was around), we were then told the room we'd booked was unavailable due to it "needing some work" (although this didn't prevent it from being occupied by another couple...

We stayed here and did not regret the hotel which is beautiful and feels much smaller than it really is. Staying here is like going back in time, but with all the mod cons. We stayed in a less expensive ground floor room; excellent value, but dark and a bit closed in. We would definitely pay more for a brighter...

I spent 5 days at Casa Mexilio in June 2010 as part of a business trip to Merida. This was my second visit to the city and my second stay at this hotel (i had stayed there previously 5 years ago). I enjoyed my first stay and that convinced me to look past some of the more negative TA reports;...

I loved the nooks and crannies of this 18th Century Hennequn mansion. The interior garden and the winding staircases that lead to the different rooms create the feeling that you are staying in your own private place. If you want company, you can always head up to the bar on the roof before supper to meet other guests. The gourmet...

This B&B is a hidden gem in the busy city. The decoration is spot on tasteful, respecting the original beauty of the house. It feels like you step back in time, and you almost feel like one of those Hacienda owners. I can see that some people would feel offended by the owner (as written in some reviews), he is...

Casa Mexilio is a strange place. From the moment we arrived we felt completely unwelcome and uncomfortable. After a long day of travel we were willing to overlook the odd behavior of the owners because we wanted to have a great vacation and we were so hot and tired. We signed their form saying we understood all of their restrictions...

Nice house, full of interesting old things graciously placed... but in need of a clean up: everything outside the room seems to be dusty. Our room was fine, quiet and cozy. It had one double and one single bed, with two very, very small bathrooms. Cozy patio with a cenote-like pool. Good and original breakfast included in the rate. Knowledgeable...

“The Frida room has the pool right off the door, but there's less privacy. The Manual de Falla room is lovely and only on the second floor. I wouldn't want the fourth floor...carrying all that stuff up and down, and in the heat, worse. It's a delightful place, and they guide you with what you want.”

“The Manual de Falla room was quiet. The steps to the second level in the room are quite steep, but this was not a problem for us, just something to be aware of when choosing this room.”

“The website has photos of everyroom. If you dont like to climb stairs ask for a garden level room. The guest house is like a tree house with rooms on numberous levels and bridges and walkways to move around the place.”
