Cheap place to stay for one night. My room smelled heavily of mildew - nothing a good rinse of bleach wouldn't help, I would think. The bed was clean. Room was beside the pool which can be annoying or convenient. Free cold water available in the lobby. Taxi to ferry was about 6 CAD.

We had one night to stay in Cancun before taking our plane back home, and wanted something with more local flavor than the resort where we had been . This hotel was perfect for that. It is situated right opposite the Parque de las palapas, where every Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday, there's a fair on. There were a lot of food stalls, kiosks selling curios, little electric cars for children, and music for dancing. It's not far from Avenida Tulum for shopping and a lot of side streets with quite a choice of restaurants. In the early evening we came across people dancing the "danzón" and samba lessons given at another square not far away.
Having said this, if you want a good night's sleep, I would suggest asking for a room at the back. We had a room right on the street and it was a bit noisy, but the noise from the air conditioner provided the white noise. (It was not very efficient)
Suites Cancun Center is a clean, basic hotel with no breakfast and no frills, though it does have a very inviting swimming pool, and there are places for breakfast not far from the hotel. While we were there, about 20 well-armed members of the "gendarmería nacional" with bullet proof vests were billeted at the hotel. A bit worrisome.

This is a Mexican Hotel that is located right on Parque de Palapas. There was a significant discount for cash -- we walked in and paid $700 pesos ($35.00). It's nothing fancy -- no one speaks English, no restaurant, beds are hard. On the other hand, the AC worked fine, there was plenty of hot water, and the rooms had a big fridge and small kitchen area. There was a visible police presence in the lobby, so we felt very, very safe. Also had a nice small pool with some seats. If noise is a problem, you may wish to ask for a room in the back -- the front rooms open directly onto the parque.

If you get a chance to come on Saturday, it will likely be loud, but you can see a real Mexico street festival with street food, free entertainers, etc.

Wanted to bring myself somewhere warm for a few days, and booked a very, very last minute trip to Cancun! Didn't have a lot of choice for hotels, as I was flying out the same day. Read some reviews, and decided to book Suites Centro.
Location: In terms of location, it is very convenient to get to from the ADO bus station - brings you to/from airport, Playa del Carmen, etc. It is right in El Centro (OId Cancun), so it has a number of little local food joints within walking distance, supermarkets if you need to buy anything, and other local shops. It is located just off Tulum Ave, which has buses running all day long to bring you to Zona Hotelera, Party Centre and other hot spots.
Hotel / Staff: It is a very basic hotel. Ideally, I wouldn't want to pay what I paid for this hotel. But, my trip was very last minute, so I can't complain. If you are looking for a hotel to spend most of your day at, look elsewhere. I just wanted a place with my own room, bed and shower, and this did the trick. It would help if at least one of the staff spoke some English, but I managed to get by. They shouldn't advertise the wifi bit, as it barely worked even though my room was right by the lobby.

Overall, an OK hotel, pleasant staff but no English speakers, located right Downtown and a few minutes walk from the ADO bus station, a place to shower/sleep/drop your stuff and head out to explore Cancun.

First i would like to say that i arrive at each place i visit with an open mind. I also check reviews before i go of course, but i'm a Missouri guy so the 'show me' statement is actually part of my DNA i think. On arrival, standing at the front door was a soldier with an automatic rifle and definitely no smile. That's a turn-off to just about anybody i would say, but after a few days, we got used to presence not just 1 outside but also 1 in the lobby. And the Lobby! The lady at the desk was friendly but professional and had everything under control for our check-in. The lobby itself is small and not arranged very well as one needed to get by the in-lobby soldier to get to the tourism literature. But like i said, one gets used to it. The signage that lets you know that they provide lock-boxes is very small and not placed well as it was actually check-out day when we finally saw the sign. This item was not offered at check-in either, so be sure to ask. The room was ok but has it's issues which i have learned to prepare for over the years. AC did not actually function well at all and was missing the control knobs. We did contact the desk, in Spanish, and the nice lady sent a repair man, who did have to come back the next day to take another look, and not much was rectified. The outlet between the beds, not only didn't work, but also was not securely in the wall and had some wiring exposed. The windows in the room are the louvered glass type and don't really seal up, but i think it actually helped out the AC a little. The room was clean and the beds are the standard Mexico firmness, not the pillow soft beds a lot of folks are used to. The bathroom definitely needs updating. The pool was clean enough and very access-able with nice chairs and umbrellas around for lounging, which we did as well as swim. The Wi-Fi did work just fine after we figured out how to get out devices to accept the code, not really a big deal. We were quite ready to go by the 4th day and check-out went smoothly. Be aware that none of the staff we met spoke English. Not really a problem for our family as we are bi-lingual. Google Translate would also be a great tool if you really want to try the place out!
