Bartenders and service staff were all absolutely amazing. The only problem was that it was a little difficult to get in touch with the hotel prior to my stay, otherwise very amazing experience. The rooms weren’t incredibly updated, but they were more than fine and at this property you don’t want to stay in your room anyway. Absolutely great food at every restaurant, including the buffet which I was very surprised with. My wife and I had an amazing honeymoon there and we would love to go back some day.

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed over New Years, which was a bit mad & very busy as you would expect but cannot fault the place & really don’t know what people are complaining about! COVID wise, hygiene throughout the hotel was impeccable, hand sanitiser everywhere, masks worn @ all times & temperature checks when entering all restaurants. Food was amazing & service was above & beyond, very polite & courteous. Don’t forget to tip the hard working staff! There are areas throughout the hotel for everyone from beach side, quiet swimming pools to loud music & entertainment. We had a couple of trips out but didn’t use the on-site people for no particular reason. Cozumel was wonderful & very relaxed, not touristy at all once you get on the ferry from Playa del Carmen (which is!). We got the bus from Cancun bus station for peanuts! If you don’t visit Chichen Itsa then you’ve proper missed out as the Mayan culture is a very important part of the culture in the Yucatan Peninsula. Anyway lovely place, room was clean & spacious, cleaned daily, mini-bar stocked on demand & any issues quickly resolved using their app. We love Mexico & the Rui Cancun does it justice!

Don’t go expecting a five star experience. Second time visiting the Riu Cancun first time was in 2007. The hotel is in a good location close to restaurants and bars. We spent 7 days at the Riu Cancun we arrived Friday evening. Check in was quick allocated a room on the 3rd floor above the stage with no view overlooking the side of the hotel to the palace hotel. I went to reception who said they were booked and would change the room on Sunday. On Sunday we were upgraded to a ocean view room on the 6th floor with king size bed. Rooms are basic but clean. We only ate at the buffet restaurant and the food was good always found something to eat and plenty of choice. Masks are worn inside the hotel and hands sanitised when entering restaurants. Drinks were also fine. Beach is lovely Hotel was clean and staff always cleaning or painting and very friendly. I agree the hotel is looking outdated and the decor in the lobby looks very cheap. The age range was from teens to very mature. The hotel attracts a younger crowd but plenty of quiet areas to get away from the rowdiness. The lifts are slow, the hotel is in the shade and the food is repetitive however I had a lovely holiday and this didn’t spoil the holiday. I probably wouldn’t return to the Riu Cancun because I want to explore other areas and hotels but I have no complaints and would recommend.

There is a lot of negative thing to talk about this hotel, I will start with this hotel shouldn’t be 5 stars, should be 3.5 or 4 star. Starting from the receptionist wasn’t friendly at all and no smiles, then the hotel was supposed to have 5 restaurants but it’s only one buffet and the foods are all the same everyday and they just move the locations there is other 3 restaurants one was supposed to be Italian and I ordered steak OMG what kind of steak was? The smallest and taste the worth I have ever tasted in my life there was supposed to have a Japanese restaurant any time I go it was closed and I am not sure still when can you go eat there. Also no food on the pool and the beach if you want you can go to sport bar get the old expired cold hot dog and hamburger. And after 10 pm if you are hungry good luck you have to go outside to eat. About the food I will give 1 star. Let’s talk about bars all the bars are closing at 12 midnight and they don’t serve any alcohol I felt like I am in Saudi Arabia, the only option is you have to walk to the sport bar from any part of the hotel, I caught the bar tender a couple time serving alcohol with out alcohol just putting a juice, bar service was bad as 2 star hotel. The cleaning rooms are was ok if you don’t leave them a note about to fill up the fridges and toilet paper you will have to call the receptionist to send you one I had to leave a note to filling it up all the time. The beach is beautiful the pools was good and it’s family friendly resort the other thing there is no hot tub there is only a Jacuzzi and it was freezing. The entertainment were all ok. The views was amazing. The food and the bar service it was horrible and that was my last time will never visit this hotel again
