Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Situated in a perfect location geographically. However, the way into the hostel itself is quite strange, not to mention hard to find ! The staff is excellent. Helpful and courteous. Specifically, the facilities themselves are very mediocre. The rooms are simple and the beds uncomfortable. I've stayed in my share of hostels, I would rate this one a 6/10. Not horrible but I am sure therr are nicer ones around to better enjoy your stay

First of all, I want to warn that photos here on TA are more cool than in reality. You can NOT see Zócalo and Catedral from hostel balcony. All in all, hostel acceptably clean in rooms and not tidy in bathrooms. WiFI is sporadical and mostly absent, as well as hot water, and those two things annoys much. Many more pretty properties can be found for such money.

We were warned by our taxi driver to be wary of this area at night. However the security at Hostel Zocalo made us feel extremely safe. The staff are super friendly and adorable. The rooms are large and there are plenty of bathroom facilities so you never have to wait for a shower. Highly recommend.

Not much to improve on this place. We did not have any issues with hot water (it does fluctuate a little bit) or elevator that another reviewer had. It's large, extremely clean and bright with a kitchen, fantastic location, and super nice staff. Could use a mirror in the private room but that's just being nit-picky. The WiFi is strong (I have been able to work while I'm here) except in the evenings when everyone is "home" and doing all their FaceTiming, Facebooking, etc. We were only booked for 6 nights but decided to stay our entire trip. So much to walk to, the metro station is a block away, etc. FOOD: There is a food court on the 1st floor with good breakfast (food, coffee & fruit for 30 pesos) and Los Tacos a few door down with great inexpensive food (5 tacos el pastor for 39 pesos)! You can also get elotes (try it if you haven't had it yet - corn on the cob w/ mayo cheese and chili) on the sidewalk downstairs in the evening. There's also a 7-11 on the corner and a couple of restaurants across the street (we have not tried them yet). NOTES: There are some city annoyances that you might have anywhere. There is an alarm (from a shop?) that goes off pretty much daily and is very loud. They don't prep you on how to deal with the earthquake alarms. If the alarm goes off (which it has twice already in our 6 nights here), you are to evacuate the building immediately. The alarm will sound 40-60 seconds before an earthquake hits. Then you have to hope that the stairwell and downstairs doors are all unlocked. The 2 quakes were down by Puebla and we didn't even feel them but the whole experience can be a bit freaky!

The location is FANTASTIC! The double room is clean and good size. Everything is great expect the shower experience and the elevator. The temperature and the volume of water in the shower room is a disaster. The hot water is only in a minute, and it will turns cold immediately. The water will stopped itself sometime. I stayed there for 5 days (4 nights), it doesn't get better. The lights in the shower room is motion sensor light, which is good for the environment. BUT, the sensor is only in the entrance of the shower room. It means if there is no one walking during your shower time, you will be trapped in the dark. Unless you re-open your door during the shower, or the lights would not be back.=( And the stairs is another story. The elevator doesn't work sometime, and the hostel is in the six floor. So you'd better pray that you won't have to carry your luggage climbing those stairs like me. It's all about LUCK.

Clean, tidy, central location (near Zocalo square and Palacio Nacional, near Metro and near shopping) and great staff. Came here planning to stay for just a couple of days, ended up staying a week. Staff is also caring (they took care of me while I was down with the flu) and very friendly. Hostel manager British guy is top-notched, well-traveled and as good as they come. Some might say nights near Pino Suarez are dodgy and 6th floor reception above a 2nd floor restaurants in a bazaar/shopping building is quirky but we didn't mind it after a couple of days - thought it was part of its charm.

Central to everywhere interesting in this huge city, and very close to the blue line metro station, this year-old hostel is only two short blocks from the Cathedral and Palace in the main Zocalo Square. Situated on the 6th floor, access is by lift/elevator. This hostel has a terrace, small kitchen, TV area with sofas, all types of dorms and private rooms, etc, all kept clean by two dedicated hard working cleaning girls, the reception staff are friendly and helpful. I recommend this hostel for it´s value for money and it´s location.

This hostel is located in a great location. The zocalo is just stone's throw from the hostel and the metro is also very very near by. The staff are great - very friendly , they gave us great pointers every time about which metro lines to use, where to get off , which buses to take - totally on point and worked out beautifully for us. They were also great about recommending places to eat, see and the general workings ... The room we took was neat, the beds comfortable. They have an AC in each room and but they hold onto the remote which they give when asked . The front door to the building is locked at night and there is another corner entrance that is open till about 9/10pm. After that , all entrances are closed and they need to come down to open the door. The only issue we had with this place it that can get noisy - sound amplifies a lot be it some one walking down the corridor , people talking or someone opening the door. It doesn't get quite till very late sometimes. Will recommend and stay here again .

We moved from another hostel and came to this one (private twin room), stayed for several nights and are generally very happy with what they offer. Pros - Excellent location, very clean, fast internet, great view (6th floor), equipped kitchen (new pots and pans, even cooking oils & spices, etc), very friendly and helpful staffs who speaks good English, free drinking water. Very spacious, bright room (twin room), elevator (helps when you are above 2,200m!) Cons - The sound of traffic below was bit noisy in daytime as it is located very central. Smelled cleaning products a bit (as they are always cleaning, but I am very sensitive with smells so it might not bother you at all). Sockets in the room were far from the bed side or table, so we had to charge our laptop and phones on the floor. It would be good if they could put chairs and a mirror on the wall in the room! (FYI, I saw some of the dorm rooms were without windows towards outside, they seemed dark for me.) I would stay again if I come back to Mexico city :)

Great staff, fabulous roof terrace, location to all the sights of Mexico City is perfect, walking distance to EVERYWHERE, spotless rooms and bathroom, lovely modern spacious decor. Only thing it needs is 24 hour reception (9am to 9pm just doesn't cut it), free breakfast and proper wooden bunk beds - not those flimsy wobbly metal ones. Would stay again if they change the beds :)
