I spent a week at the Romano in late April 2004 and it was better than expected.

Service:
The elevators can be slow during busy times, especially if you're on a higher floor. The Mexicans aren't much for waiting their turn and will push past you when the elevator arrives, even if they just got there. The area just outside the lobby is flooded with taxi drivers who will sell you *anything* for the right price. It became a joke to say, "Taxi, amigo?" to each other by the 2nd day. The concierge was helpful and when he heard I was looking for dress shoes, he scored up a pair (though it was size 13, much bigger than my foot.) The desk staff was helpful and spoke English reasonably well, giving us 3 beds for the price of 2 for free, a savings of US$17 per day. Maid service was efficient though they didn't clean our tables too well, leaving empty bottles of beer in the room.

Food
The food is acceptable given the price At poolside, 3 tacos or 2 hot dogs go for US$2.00. Did those other reviewers expect filet mignon? The buffet is a great deal at US$5.00 for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The fresh, 3-egg ommelette I had one morning was one of my best meals. We ate once at the downstairs restaurant and while passable, I'd recommend somewhere else. The hotel bar was dead but had a good assortment of liquor.

Location
There is none better in Playa Condesa. You are across the street from the bungee jump, Mango's, Barbarroja, Disco Beach, Paradise, etc, etc. Convenience stores are closeby and an ATM machine is next door in the Tortuga. Once you manage to get across the street (no small feat) you can be on the beach in seconds. Lounge chairs and umbrellas cost about US$2 extra per item. Newsflash for some other poster: That's how it is anywhere you go in the world. Not unique to Mexico. Beach service was dependable. You could always get a beer or food, though you'll pay about US$5 for a beer instead of the usual US$2. It can be loud at night - very loud. If you're able to stay out until 4, 5am then you'll be OK. If you want to sleep by 10:30 or midnight, forget it. Get a hotel on the top floors facing the east (towards Fiesta Americana) or else you'll hear music all night. The tradeoff is the view the other way is better.

Annoyances
By far, the vendors on the beach. They will sell you anything from silver charms to blankets to drugs. They will come at you from multiple angles and more than once. Most will go away with a simple "No quiero" or "No gracias" but some hover and these you have to be more firm with. Some will be beggars, like the 5 year olds who will "dance" for you. There's simply no way of getting away from them; it's part of being in Acapulco. I heard that if you stayed down near the Hyatt there are fewer. The pool itself is modern and clean but it loses the light in the late afternoon as the sun sets behind the hotel. The Romano, at least when I was there, seemed to cater to middle income Mexican families. If you're looking to pick up American or Canadian girls, forget it. Stay at the Condesa or Emporio, or walk over there and see them on the beach.

Overall, I'd recommend the Romano for those on a budget, want to stumble home from a night of heavy drinking, with a family, or looking to relax on the beach and nothing more. This is not the place for you if you want a romantic getaway, want to impress the locals, or if your modus operanda is hitting on Western girls in the lobby. If I went back to Acapulco I'd try the Emporio but you can't go wrong with the Romano.

Well as most spring breakers do, I looked up information regarding hotels such as the Romano Palace and decided I would give it a try. I planned most of the trip and went with four of my girls. We just got back from spring break and had a great time. Acapulco is a great place to go and there is always something to do whether it be the beach, pools, shopping, bungee jumping, clubbing, eating out etc. The Romano Palace was a nice place for spring breakers who arent looking to spend a ridiculous amount of money. Our room was nice with a view of both the pool and ocean. The maids were very friendly, and kept the rooms cleaned. The front desk was always helpful and patient when asked questions. The food was pretty good if you are not a picky eater though it was a little repetitous so you may try to eat out once or twice.
Going all inclusive is the way to go considering you eat three bufftes a days and can drink all day from 10am-10pm. There were three options for restaurants and bars. Get to the pool or the beach across the street early because it fills up fast. The beach is right across the street so dont think it is a long walk. The clubs are like 5 minutes away and bargain for taxi prices. $4 was what we usually payed to clubs and sometimes we would just give five because they often said $4 with a tip. You are always quite bothered at the beach with the vendors but they will leave you alone if you ignore them or say no thank you.
Bungee jumping was fun, give it a try if you are not afraid of heights.
One thing I do have to say that I did not enjoy was the two elevators they had for 22floors. We often used the service elevator which we came to fuond out was ok. Most of the time you find yourself walking down the sets of stairs, which kept one in shape throughout the week. All in all it was one of the best trips I have ever been on. Acapulco is beautiful! I hope you are ready to PARTY! Romano Palace had entertainment and was full of spring breakers. Great place to meet people. Hope this helps.....

Alright I'll be honest, the hotel isn't glamorous by any means. The food -----, the rooms aren't the best and the elevator situation is a joke (be prepared to walk up and down 20 flights to your room), but with that aside, the hotel is still awesome. Its full of kids who are partying 24 hours a day. The hotel security is very nice and understanding of what it means to have a good time. Out of all the hotels in Acapulco, the Romano Palace has the best location by far, being right across from the beach and in the middle of everything anyone would ever want down there. If you wanna go to a beautifull resort that is quiet and relaxing and luxurious, stay the hell away from the Romano Palace. If you want a hotel that has kids in it who are wasted and crazy and partying at every hour of the day and stay up all night until its time to go back to the beach the next day then the palace is the place for you. The Romano is crazy and I'm definitly going back.

The Romano Palace was probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. There were 2 main things wrong with it - the state of the rooms and the service provided there.

I stayed at the Romano Palace while I was on spring break this year (I'm a college student), so I wasn't exactly expecting to be staying at the Four Seasons. But, nothing could have prepared me for what I experienced at the Romano Palace. The rooms appeared clean when you first walked into them, but that was just the surface. The beds were not only the most uncomfortable things I have ever been in, but the sheets were totally gross. There were literally cigarette burns in my sheets. I was scared to put my legs under them for fear of what might be there. At one point I accidently kicked a shoe under the bed and I was absolutely revolted at what I found when I went to retrieve it. There was also dirt in every corner of the hotel. There are only 2 old elevators to service the entire 22 floor building. And walking up and down the stairs also disgusted me because that required that you practically walk through the hotel's kitchen as well as garbage room! It was just a gross experience, I practically gagged from the smells. The pool was also nasty. It seemed like the never cleaned it. Emply cups and other bits of dirt floated around in it every day.

The service provided by hotel employees didn't help the hotel either. Basically, what I learned was that you don't get anything, even if you have already paid for it, unless you tip someone. We had to tip the concierge $6 just to get our room assignment! He demanded a tip and when we handed him $6 he commented on how it wasn't enough! Also, don't buy the all-inclusive package. It seems like a good idea at first, but its not worth it at all. The waiters at the restaurant are not good servers at all. They won't even serve you until you tip them prior to the service. You practically have to wave dollar bills at them just to get them to give you something that you have already paid for. I paid for an open bar, but probably only got served 2 drinks per day at the restaurant. The pool bar is alright, however, because it is walk up. Basically, the waiters are what made the service terrible. The food is also horrible. Just expect to get sick. They leave dairy products out in the warm sun for hours. Everyone I went with got sick at one point or another. If you had a problem with the room, the employees were no help at all. Pretty much all of them spoke English well. However, they would often pretend to not know what you were saying when you had a problem. At one point, our safe locked shut with all of our valuables in it and we had to call down to the desk literally 5 times before we realized no one was going to come to help us. 3 hours later, we finally got a security guard to do a 2 second procedure that opened our safe. Do not use their phone even if you have a phone card because they will charge you $1.50 for just picking up the phone. And when you try to complain about things, they literally listen to you for a second and just walk away. It was so rude, I've never felt so disrespected in a place in my life.

On the plus side, its in a great location for spring break purposes. It has a really fun pool with daily entertainment and a good pool bar. It's also really close to the beach as well as many bars. The problem with this is that the hotel doesn't stop vibrating from the club music across the street until 7 AM every morning. Just don't expect to sleep. But, thats something that spring breakers just have to deal with, right?

Overall, I would NEVER go back to the Romano Palace. After looking at the prices, I guess its true that you get what you pay for. The Romano Palace is dirty and has awful service. I would not recommend it to anyone, even spring breakers.

For the price, this place is way beyond what I expected. True, the elevators are slow, true the beach is across the street(but it takes 15 seconds and your there), also a beach bar with all the the corona and canned refreshments you'd want. To get a seaside lounge chair you must pay, @ $2-3. But there are tables 30 feet from the water. True it is very noisy at night if your directly facing the condesa. It does not get quiet enough to sleep until 4am. Atleast when I went with my gf back in Feb 2004. Though the views from the upper floors facing the ocean are incredible. If you want quiet, get a room facing the pool, just ask and they will happily switch you up. The rooms each have free safe and are very clean. It does look like nothing has been remodeled in 20 years, but the beds are comfortable, considering you should be drunk enough to pass out wherever you end up. The food by my opinion was great, sure a little repetitive but what do you expect, it's not fine dining. There is a buffet almost every hour between 7am and 10 pm, except between 12-1pm. There is also a menu that is included in the AI. You want a nice seafood meal, head down the condesa or up to the brisas area, many options there. Also it's safe to walk up and down the streets anytime of day/night, we walked to all the clubs except for palladium, a little to far, but you should never have to pay more then $3 to get there, or anywhere in town. My advice, spend a day a Pie de la Cuesta, absolutely breathtaking. And if You don't mind not staying in the HYATT, or other 5* properties, this place will definetly satisfy you, and your wallet.

Do not stay in this hotel if you want to get any sleep! It is located on the Playa Condesa right across from the very loud beachside bars that blast 80s music until 4 or 5 in the morning. It is impossible to sleep, and closing the flimsy windows and patio doors does not keep the noise out. In fact, it was so loud that we had to almost shout to be heard in our room.

Also, after a rain storm, our shower and sink spouted only brownish water for 3 days.

You can easily find a better place for the same price.

It was cheap ($70 per night) but I'd rather sleep on the beach. Noise was horrible; elevators took literally 20 minutes; room smelled of urine; no hot water during our 3 days; complaints to management generated repairmen visits to room but nothing ever was fixed; amenities listed were not available (hair dryer; lock-box; telephone, TV; a/c); water leaks, shabby furniture, dirty floors, foul-smelling beds, dim lighting and crumbling walls were some of the room features not mentioned in advertisement.
Pool was evacuated one afternoon due to feces in the water. The beach is across the street but you have to pay for a chair; plus, no easy way to cross the street.
This hotel has not had any maintenance for years. Pay a little more and get a decent room elsewhere.

I'm glad I only booked one night at this hotel. There were cigarette burns on the bed spread, a/c was not very cool and the rooms were small. This 22 floor hotel only had two elevators. So needless to say, your going to wait awhile. I had to call reservations twice for a remote control for the TV because they didn't provide it when I checked-in and then they wanted me to go back down and get it myself instead of bringing up to me. It is not a beach front hotel. You have to walk across the main street to get to the beach. Finally, don't expect to get to sleep before 3:00 a.m. with the club across the street pounding music through the walls. Believe me you'll want to stay elsewhere.

Ok ,well i'll start by saying we were'nt sure about this one this was our 1st trip to Acapulco we always went to Cozumel..well guess we were spoiled there because the bad things were ...
1st: rooms were Very DARK not enough lighting, dirty floors (dont walk with bare feet) they will be black never never mopped! the bowl was cleaned on inside only, the mirror was NEVER cleaned we even put water splash marks on it in hopes of some windex but NOT!and I'll agree with another review there not to good on cleaning bedside tables or dresser tops there were ring marks from who knows who still there when we left, the balcony slider was very hard to slide open needed oil on tracks.and the balcony although nice there were dead flowers in it from when ever (would have been better if were empty)(we planted some funky seeds in it though):) ..
2nd: the food ..well let me tell you I was very upset over that it was buffet style which is best but... there were'nt alot to choose from american I mean I thought if I see these same beans again I would die! yuk! also I love fresh fruit but here I didnt have any cause there were these little black bugs all over!! It was grosss! The best meals were breakfast (cause it came from the grill fresh) and the lady was nice who cooked it, but there is a Pizza Hut to right of hotel down street (life saver) and the worst was EVERYTHING you wanted to eat or drink they gave you a pad to sign your name and rm number to, what a pain you can't even get loaded there in peace! My husband got so mad one day he turned the pad and signed 15 lines accross and said there that should be gd for now!!!well they were'nt to happy after that lol, oh well,we did wear wrist bands cause we were all inculusive they have to figure out something with that...I have to say they do make a nice drink called Romano palace it was like an orange creme ice pop mmmmm good!!
3rd:the staff, well all the folks that worked by pool side was great !! they kept them comming even when we were in the pool and we had a great lunch there, they made themselves pays to tip good never dissapointed at the pool for sure! we even had cd's and we had the whole pool side area singing the song MY DING A LING!!!! know it>??? we had so much fun that day they even came out of there rooms to see what was going on hope these people miss us ( we were the life of the party that day) ok to get back to service the maid was bad the staff at desk was ok and the managers downstairs in food area was very nice i had upset tummy and they gave me some special tea that helped alot thank you Louis!!
4th:the noise wow was there! we were right accross from the Barbarros ship and Paridise wow all of the sudden its dead out and then come 10:00PM they come in full force !! out of the wood work they call it and it dont end till 5:00AM talk about boom boom boom cant sleep here for sure its like new years eve in NYC or worse ear plugs please and also all you hear is screammin bungy jumpers too it was fun to watch them though
5th:the Bay wow the bay was nice but.... waves alittle too strong for my blood I was knocked down 4 times ! and my husband once (and he's big!)we did got to a great beach called Los Gloria~~ wow was that nice calm waves and not deep at all we can go out so far and still be up to hips recomend highly!! (ask cab driver where it it) ours was a guy named Carlos he was near 55 or so and he was great he took us all over and waited too (for hrs at times) he was great he can be found to right of hotel in next building on park bench if he's not busy he was great!!say hi to him if you use him Dave and Del :)
ok in closing this hotel had few faults but nothing we could'nt handle.. if you don't like this review don't go there then I'm honest and speak my mind.. oh one thing also the elevators.. go to the right of them theres a service one there faster! all in all the view was great and we did have a good time but next year our resort will be finished after the storm damage and we are going back there guess we are spoiled the resort is Park Royal (dont believe the bad reviews there) they are great and the we have gone there for yrs!! no complaints well hope this helps someone have a great vacation!!And yes you can see the famlous Cross from this hotel very nice look at pictures enjoy

Just to start off, its cheap and spring breakers can afford it, but you are missing out on so much if you stay here compared to staying somewhere else. The rooms are warm, the food is really bad, there is a smell in the hallway thats with you forever because it smells so bad, your rooms don't come with everything they say it comes with, the people working for the hotel are not nice at all, if you are there like i was for spring break, the lines to get drinks are so long. Long like, you will wait 20 mins to get a drink by the pool. One more time, I could not believe how bad the food was, the same thing everyday.
