I got a great deal on this hotel and was given an oceanfront room with a view. If you can get a balcony with the room, it will be even better. I was placed on the penthouse level and the views were amazing. You can see the whole bay and the sunsets are lovely to watch. Not much noise in the night and you can have a comfortable sleep. The hotel is located right in the middle of the main beach strip of Acapulco. It is not on the main street, but you have to enter through a passageway. There are plenty of things to do around the hotel and easy to get to on foot. if you don't feel like it, you can spend you entire time around the hotel on foot and not spend on taxis. The hotel has a big swimming pool and a private beach. You can arrange various tours from the itinerant vendors plying on the beach. Service and cleanliness was great.

The hotel rooms are very nice and clean, I love that they all have a balcony with sea views, the pool and restaurant area (semi-open) are very pleasant.
If anything, I would suggest a better price on the food, but about 100 meters from there, exiting the coast on the left, there is a restaurant with very tasty, varied food at good prices.
In general our stay was very good.

We were upgraded to a larger and very pleasant room. Very clean room but in need of modernization. Well secured environment. Comfortable bed. Impressive view over the whole bay. Large swimming pool, private beach accessible for free and almost empty.

This is a hotel where I stayed as a child 50 years ago. Well something’s in the rooms have not changed. Everything is old and clunky and either doesn’t work or works in a suboptimal way. Example: the toilet paper does not stay in place as the holders are too old and the management too careless to fix them. Everything in this hotel is careless. The service is horrible and outdated. Makes you feel like a 2 star hotel. Amenities are non-existent and if you dare to ask for say, a toothbrush they frown upon you like if you come from outer space. They do have the best real estate in the bay and the best views, but it is truly a place to avoid.

We booked for five nights. Enjoyed it so much we stayed for one more night. We arrived at night and were given a king room on the second floor. Room was fine but palm trees blocked our view. As they promised, the front desk moved us to a 5th floor room the next day. Fabulous room, fabulous beach and ocean view. Staff is incredibly friendly. Room was spotless and perfect in every way. Lots of restaurants nearby. Public transportation at the door. A perfect stay and very well priced.

We just spent a week at the Elcano Hotel in Acapulco. The location of the hotel was great. The hotel is located on the beach and in the middle of the Costera (The Strip). We could walk to many restaurants or hop the bus (40 cents) to further away places. You can walk to Walmart from the hotel if you forgot some sunscreen.

All the hotel rooms face the water. The room had A/C and everything was clean. The beds were a little hard. The hotel has a roped off beach area that was very nice. The beach itself is coarse. The bay water was just ok and not many people were swimming. The hotel also has a pool.

The hotel breakfast was great and included in our stay. The breakfast food was international so you could find something you like. We ate most other meals out in town. The margaritas were good. The hotel staff was very friendly.

I would go there again and I would recomend the Elcano to a friend.

Elcano is definitely one of the nicer hotels along the Costera. I really liked its location. It is located on a less congested area east of the Fiesta Americana Hotel. Once you get west of the Fiesta Americana on the Costera, the traffic congestion gets pretty bad. Clientele of the hotel appears to be of an international nature based on our experience and as represented by the reviews here on TA. We heard Spanish, English, French, and German at the hotel.

Our room was good size with a very large balcony that had a fabulous view. The balcony had an unobstructed view right out on to the center of Acapulco bay. The view is particularly amazing at night. The room had two queen beds with very hard mattresses which is typical of Mexico. Furnishings were modern and the bathroom had a powerful shower. A plentiful supply of ice was always available on our floor, somewhat of a rarity at hotels in Mexico.

The pool and pool area in general are small and it could use more shade. The pool deck chairs are hard plastic with no pads. I don’t understand why a hotel of this quality would expect their guests to lay on hard plastic while at the pool. However, it was nothing that $24 USD at Walmart couldn’t solve as that’s what my wife and I paid for two chair pads that we used all week at the pool. On the plus side, the pool water was warm and the pool area and beach were very restful. No loud music played all day at the pool. This is probably not the best hotel for spring break partiers.

The staff is very efficient and friendly. The front desk seemed to be able to handle any concern of ours effortlessly. The maid service was the best that we have ever had in Mexico. The room was always cleaned by noon and most days within an hour of our leaving in the morning. Midway through our stay our toilet handle broke and the toilet would not flush. Within ten minutes of my call to the front desk, maintenance had come to our room and fixed the problem. The Elcano lobby bar has a duo that plays any sort of dance music that you want. The facilities in the bar are also excellent for dancing. It was a pleasant surprise for nightly entertainment.

I highly recommend the Elcano.

The hotel was excellent. The rooms were always kept clean and towel service twice a day. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our needs and always greated us with a smile. They were able to answer all our questions and if not found someone who could. Made reservations on our behalf and gave us a courtesy call to ensure that we were comfortable and if there was anything they could do to make our stay more pleasurable. Can't believe that it is only rated as a 3 star hotel on some places on the net. Would definitely give this a 4 star. For an all inclusive being able to order from the menu was a definite plus. The food was excellent and offered a large selection to choose from. The location was great and offered a spectacular view of the bay, every room has a full ocean view. The hotel was tranquil and quiet even during Spring Break. For being completely booked the elevator service was never a wait. Repairs to the hotel were done immediately. One tile on the balcony was lose, repaired the next day; one light bulb out was replaced that same day without us even mentioning it. Left camera and other valuables out without going missing. We had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend and return to this hotel.

Got my SLR camera ($1400 value) and smartphone ($200 value) stolen at the hotel by a staff. Saw the thief (in hotel blue uniform) with my own eyes running away with my things and entered the hotel kitchen area. I cried for help while chasing after the thief, but the staff on the grounds ignored my cries as if nothing was happening. Hotel management as well was absolutely no help, took them hours before calling the police to report the crime.

It wasn't the fact that someone stole my things that upsets me, but more the fact that nobody on the grounds bothered with me while I cried for help chasing after the thief.

the El Cano hotel is excellent´, I have stayed here for the past 5 years. I don´t share the view with people who say the food is horrible. I have never been to any hotel in the US or specially Europe that have such a wonderful buffet for breakfast. Second, Acapulco is not a place to stay all day in your hotel. There are so many excellent restaurants around: Suntory, el Zorrito, Madeiras, El Olvido, you name it, they have it , for all pockets and tastes!! We have had paella for lunch or ceviche and it is always fresh and excellent. The rooms are very nice and clean and all rooms have views to the sea. I think for the price you pay it is an excellent option.

1. air condition in rooms working well? 2. how many square-meters has a penthouse?

re: standard rooms. There is a small fridge, no kitchen and you have to request the iron. Oxxo is 50 yards from the entrance of the hotel and there is a Walmart down the street. not sure about all inclusive but the rates for us Americans is awesome. Due to the allegedly "high crime rate." You are paying a fraction of the cost compared to any other city outside of Acapulco. I've been there several times and never seen any problems. As long as you stay in the tourist area you will be fine and you will be greeted by friendly people everywhere.
